Logan took a deep breath and tried to focus. He tried to become aware of every muscle in his body, feeling the energy flowing through his cells. The watch had triggered something in him. Father Time had said he had magical abilities as a Holder. He needed to learn how tap into it if he stood a chance at finding the others.

He was sat cross legged in grass. The intelligent young man was led to one of the gardens in the Temple of Time by the old man. Father Time had told him they needed to move quickly to learn how to control his powers.

"As the Holder of the Watch of Time, your magical abilities are connected to the flow of time. You can make yourself move faster or slower by speeding up or slowing down your personal timeline. This is a much more difficult ability to master. First, you need to learn to pull energy from your surroundings to use it as a projectile or shield," Father Time explained, circling him. "All of the Holders have a connection to the energy of the universe. You've got to be able to use it to your advantage before we teach you the more difficult techniques of the Time Holder's magic."

Logan nodded and tried to open his mind to the possibilities of tapping into energy to use for magic. He was a man of logic and science, but the watch had transported him to this temple and Father Time himself had told him there was more to existence than he knew.

You have stumbled into something so much bigger than you imagined. You have an opportunity to do something unique with your life, but also live the one you desire with Patton. You just have to stop this evil mage first, he thought bitterly to himself. He clenched his hands as he tried to focus. The other Holders have gone missing and one of them has turned evil, but surely a newly recruited Time Holder can make a difference in this conflict.

"Logan," the old man said, making him gasp. He snapped back into reality as he looked toward him. "You have to relax in order to tap into the energy."

He felt the urge to argue with him and point out that it wasn't very realistic to think that he could do what five others couldn't. He bit his tongue however, knowing it wouldn't do any good to fight with him. He was his teacher.

"I can sense that you're frustrated," Father Time said softly. He sat down in front of the young man and looked him directly in the eye. "Please do voice your concerns."

Logan sighed heavily and reached up to pinch his nose. "It's just... you told me that the other Holders have gone into hiding. Why? Likely because they were losing the fight against Victor and the rogue Holder. If all five of them combined couldn't fight against these guys, what can I do?" he asked. "They knew what they were doing. They knew how to use their abilities. They had a knowledge of this situation. I have none of those things, but somehow you think I have a chance in this war?"

"Logan, I don't expect you to win this war on your own," he told him. His voice was gentle and knowing as he continued. "You're not going to be able to do it alone. You're going to have to find the other Holders."

"Why could the five of us win now if they couldn't win before?" Logan demanded.

Father Time reached out and took his hands in his. He squeezed them comfortingly. "They failed because they couldn't connect with each other. They didn't trust each other. They weren't a family," he said. "It's that lack of a connection to each other that caused the death of the previous Time Holder and the falling of the Destruction Holder."

"Emotions are not my strong suit nor my position," he pointed out, gesturing to the Temple of Time around them. "Wouldn't this be a better task for the Holder of the Heart or whatever it was you called it?"

The old man sighed again and nodded. "That's exactly the problem," he said. "She's been missing since before the death of the previous Time Holder. She was captured by the enemy and without her, the other Holders fell apart. You need to find her first. With her help, you two can find and restore the connection of the Holders."

Logan didn't hate that plan. It made sense but there was just one problem. "How do I know where to look for her?"

"You should be able to feel her energy once you've become accustomed to your new powers, but that will take training. Do not rush yourself in that regard," Father Time warned. "There are ways you can help this war start progressing without being at your full strength. This war isn't just fought with magic. Victor Moriarty has plenty of towns in different timelines that are being occupied by regular soldiers. If you can assemble a team, a nudge from you will trigger the townspeople to stand up for themselves."

"Victor also has prisons and factories everywhere," he continued. "They're heavily defended, but not impossible to sneak into. Small victories can make all the difference in boosting the moral of the people and could attract the attention of the Holders who have gone into hiding."

The intelligent young man nodded. "That makes sense," he agreed. "And doesn't sound impossible, but how could I or Patton fight? We have no combat experience."

"Holders have an inherited understanding of combat. Once we begin training you, you will progress very quickly," Father Time said, standing up. "Patton will have to learn like any ordinary human being would. It would likely take him longer if he's not the fighting type."

"It might be too dangerous for him to help me with this," Logan said quietly, looking down at the grass beneath him.

The old man paused and looked at him. "Your worry for him is understandable, but the decision to risk himself by helping you is his choice, not yours. I think that you should allow him to help you. I can see many potential futures for the both of you, but there is much suffering in the ones where you go into this alone."

"And how much suffering is in the ones with Patton?" he asked curiously.

He smiled sadly and shook his head. "I cannot say for certain. No one should know too much about their future. You need to make your own choices."
