Gab's PoV

I can't believe Will had been talking to Tartarus. It sounded like Will didn't do anything to betray anyone, except for the fact that he didn't tell anyone, but then he went and tried to sacrifice himself. What if he succeeded? Did he succeed? Is he still alive? I guess it's useless to try and think about questions there was no possible way to get answers for. I just had to hope he was alive for his and Nico's sakes. Oh gods, Nico. He has been silent the entire time we have been walking. His eyes would go wide every once in a while, and I could tell he was fighting to stay with us. Nelson kept trying to help him by using his power over healing the mind, but he was getting more and more exhausted. We weren't exactly close to getting out of here either.

Bob stopped so suddenly that Annie and I ran into him. "Ow!" Annie yelped.

"Quiet!" Bob whispered. He looked around cautiously before lowering Nelson and Nico on the ground. "There's something out here."

Annie and I drew our bows, and we made a protective circle around the two boys on the ground. "What is it?" Annie hissed.

Bob didn't say anything, and I couldn't tell if it was because he knew what it was and he didn't want to scare us, or if he really didn't know. Small Bob jumped off his shoulder and hissed at the darkness. That didn't exactly calm my nerves either. Then I heard it. A soft slithering sound that grew louder as the seconds passed. The sound came from all around us. I stepped back a little and moved slightly to the right, so I was directly in front of Nico. Annie shifted left, so she was in front of Nelson. Then, extremely large snakes slithered out of the darkness, completely surrounding us. I would have almost laughed by how normal looking they were compared to some of the monsters we've encountered, and I've read about. They looked like extremely long worms with a snake head on each end of the body. Their eyes glowed yellow, and they hissed at us angrily.

"Amphisbaenae," Bob said while lowering his broom, "the two headed snakes."

Any feeling I had left to laugh died instantly. I remembered reading about the amphisbaenae. They were created when the original Perseus flew over the Libyan Dessert with Medusa's head. The blood that dripped from her head made the creatures. Both heads were very poisonous. It could bite itself on each end to form a hoop like the hoop snake in order to travel faster, but what concerned me most of all was it's regeneration ability. If the monster was cut in half where both snake heads were severed from each other, the snake could meld itself back together again. That left only two options that I could think of. Cutting the amphisbaenae down the middle in order to cut the heads themselves in half, or burning them with fire. Neither option was very feasible at the moment.

"Annie? I don't suppose you have any arrows that can catch on fire?" I asked.

"Uh, no, not with me. Why?" Annie asked nervously.

"We can't separate their heads. I guess we're going to have to try cutting their heads in half." I explained worriedly as the amphisbaenae advanced slowly.

"What do you mean we can't separate their heads?" She asked, aiming an arrow at the nearest monster.

"They'll just reattach it to their bodies," I explained.

"Ze is right. We cannot defeat this many without fire." Bob said.

"What can we do then?" I asked.

Bob bent down and scooped Nelson and Nico back up again. "Run," he said simply. Then, the monsters attacked.

They shaped themselves into a loop and rolled after us as we ran. Annie shot a smoke arrow into the crowd of amphisbaenae in front of us, and we were able to make it out of the circle. The amphisbaenae hissed angrily and rolled faster. I shot an arrow at them, but I didn't have any specialty arrows. I was going to have to fix that when I get out of here.

The amphisbaenae didn't seemed fazed. They just swerved around the arrows like they were rocks that have been there for ages. The few times an arrow stuck perfectly out of one of their heads, the monsters would still just wiggle around stubbornly. At least they couldn't move from that spot. Annie shot another smoke arrow into the mass of monsters, and we picked up speed as we followed Bob's silver hair bobbing up and down in the distance.

We were doing a pretty good job avoiding the snakes, but right when Bob shouted, "We're almost there!" I felt fangs dig into my leg, and I screamed as I fell forward on to the ground.

"Gab!" Annie shot an arrow at the amphisbaena that had bit me, and it's head got stuck to the ground with the arrow impaling it.

She ran up to me and helped me to my feet. I was already feeling dizzy, and my vision was going black at the edges. I stumbled and leaned on her for support. Together we struggled to catch up with Bob and the others when a loud roar cut the air. A giant riding the back of a long dragon like reptile without wings charged out of the darkness. "Drakon," I muttered before I swayed and let myself slip into unconsciousness.

Hey guys! This is probably going to be the last chapter for tonight. I'm really tired, so I'm probably going to take a nap. Also, I've neglected my other fanfictions this week, so I'm going to try and update them later tonight. I hope you guys liked the chapter and had a great day!
