Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh. The sound of my blade on the wood. Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh, shomp! There is a sudden noise in the bushes to my right, like a footstep misplaced.

Then a voice, "Ako'ni! Wee know you ar' here'ey you blob of dragion spit!" It was quite an insult to call someone dragon spit, but I knew I deserved it. As you have probably figured out already, my name is Akoni, and I am a wanted runaway. Quickly, I jumped up from the wet log I was perched on, the fire in front of me roared. I threw a bucket of water from a nearby stream, which I had prepared earlier, onto it, putting the licking flames out.

Then I dashed over to my leather satchel, which had my gem-encrusted sword propped against it. I threw my wooden stick, which I had been working on making into an arrow, and my bucket into my bag; swinging the leather strap around my shoulder.

Putting my carving knife into my boot and grabbing my gleaming sword, I leaped over the log I had been sitting on and dashed out, into the thick trees.

The birds sung as if life was a happy story, not a death chase. I knew, as I jumped over a muddy puddle, glancing at my reflection, that they, the Wikask guards (I could tell by the accent, the speaker was not familiar with our language, and that this happens to be strictly their territory), would be after me.

I dashed around tree trunks and over bushes, careful to make as little noise as possible. I knew they could find me no matter what, the trees would tell them where I was. There was little chance of escape unless I reached some tree-free place in time.

The Wikask were quicker than me, they lived in the forest, they grew up here, they knew the place by heart, whereas I, well, I am just a U'Ahdak, running for his life. Not only do the Wikask want me, but all of Kaski. There is a massive reward.

A whistle sounded, one that I knew too well. It was the U'Ahdak. They knew I was here, they were searching for me too. They had sounded the whistle as if to say, "back off Wikask! He's ours."

If I was lucky, extremely lucky, the Wikask wouldn't give up their spot of the reward and a fight would break out, this would buy me enough time to escape from both of their filthy hands. I heard the clang of a sword from behind me and then knew, it was happening, and I was lucky.

My foot hit a rock, sending me tumbling down towards the ground. No, I can't waste time! Brushing myself off, I got up again, feeling a stinging ache in my foot. I ignored it, pushing on. Then, to my surprise and relief, I stumbled into a clearing.

There was a cluster of enormous boulders sitting in the middle, no doubt there would be a cave, nook, or cranny I could hide in inside them. Searching, I found it, a small hole just big enough for me to squeeze inside of.

"Thank the five!" I muttered under my breath.

I crawled in, swiping my hand to clear some spiderwebs along the way. It ended quickly, only my booted foot barely stuck out from the entrance. I breathed deeply, just noticing how tired I was. I curled up, managing to pull my foot in, then fell asleep.
