The day preceding any full moon night was always filled with anticipation. Would they accidentally kill someone? Would their existence be exposed? These were only a few of the thoughts that ran in every werewolf's mind.

After a whole month of control, the time had finally come. The time for them to truly be who they are. Only this time, they had a ceremony to prepare for.

The time has come, Cameron thought, fixing his white-collar and tucking his sleeves. He looked at himself in the mirror. A confident smile radiated from his face as he turned his back to the mirror, making his way out of his room.

"Has everything been prepared?" Cameron asked when he saw Isla waiting outside his room.

"We have done everything." Isla said.

"You better not have ruined anything." Cameron said sternly.

"If there is anything else that you want us to do, make sure you are present." Isla said. Cameron opened his mouth to argue with her statement but stopped, not wanting to ruin his spirits on this auspicious day.

"The time has come." Isla said, hiding every ounce of worry and anger inside of her. She had spent the whole of last night awake, hoping that Hayden would do something, to stop Cameron.

How ironic of me to want a girl I hate to help me, she thought in hopelessness. She knew that she could always fight him, but that would be walking the same path Hayden did. She would have loved to walk the same path as her, for that would mean they'd never cross each other.

I will not turn everyone against me the way Hayden did, she thought, increasing her dilemma even more.

She followed behind Cameron, who was walking down the stairs with his back straight and his chin held high. She wasn't used to seeing him this confident, but again that's what happens when you've got a whole pack of wolves to be your human shield.

The sun had completely left the horizon a few minutes ago as darkness followed. The clouds paved a path for the full moon to rise. This was the last time he would be a mere pack member.

He won't ever see it coming, Hayden thought a smile forming on her lips. She could see him ordering everyone around him and their face glistened with joy. It angered her that they were happy to be ordered around.

They need me to help them use their brain again, she thought, taking cautious steps forward. Her legs knew exactly where they were going. They knew every part of the forest and how to get there. After taking a few more cautious steps, Hayden was satisfied since she knew this was the right place to do what was planned.

This part of the forest was mostly covered with thick tree trunks, ensuring that no one from the pack could lay their eyes on her. She crouched on the ground, her brain trying to control her shift into a wolf. She knew the full moon wasn't out yet but she was hoping for a headstart.

She hunched her back as she fell to the ground, trying to imitate exactly what she remembers doing during the shift.

She waited patiently, knowing for sure that she was going to transform any minute. Her heartbeat was normal, for she knew that everything was alright.

You will never be in control of anything, a voice told her. The same voice that convinced her that she was almost immortal.

Shock took over her body, paralyzing her on the spot. She wasn't as unstoppable as she thought she was.

Her once calm heartbeat was now racing at high speeds, seemingly happening a lot ever since she drank the concoction.

She felt her bones rub on top of each other as an alarming cry escaped her lips. Her bones dislocated, leaving their original spot to serve convenience to a wolf. Her heart skipped a beat as she realized that she was on all fours, her nails filthy and sharp enough to play the role of a pocket knife.

Her mind was unaware of everything that was happening but there was no time to think. If she waited any longer she would lose her headstart. She leaped from the trees, making her way towards the ceremony.

Her eyes fell on the shimmering silver ring on Cameron's middle finger. Anger ran through her veins when he adjusting the ring on his finger as a means to spite her.

That was supposed to be mine! she thought with gritted canines. She knew that if she killed the alpha, that would directly make her one.

He deserves to die, just like father, the voice said.

He's not your father, he's mine, Hayden replied, doing her best to control her reflexes. Her anger was never controllable but she had to prove her wrong. She had to prove that she can control everything.

And I just can't kill my brother, she thought.

She walked toward him, hoping she could scare him into giving the ring to her but he stood still, unflinching.

"It's a full moon night Hayden." he said the moonlight falling on his ring. Thousands of bones cracked around her, sending sweat down her spine.

Cameron's eyes grew wide open with fear, no longer able to function. The ring on his finger dropped to the ground, scattering a low-pitched sound.

There was a moment of silence, as all the wolves stood still, waiting for their new alpha to transform.

Cameron fell to the ground, blood spewing out of his mouth. The wolves hurried towards him unable to aid him in their wolf form.

A loud howl rang in Hayden's ears as she realized that all the pack wolves faced her, almost like they blamed her for his death.

Fight them! the voice said with utmost enthusiasm, something Hayden had never heard from it.

I didn't think you would rejoice at my death, Hayden said, scampering away from the forest.

Footsteps chased her, with her trials of moving faster going in vain. She made swift turns, not knowing where she was to go.

I can't do this on my own! she exclaimed, admitting something she wished she would never have to admit. Her feet hurt from the running and the stones that she accidentally stepped on.

I guess neither of us gets the ring.
