The planet Ajin from the Isorropia Galaxy has been ranked the best place to live in the universe for yet another decade. Their matriarchal society and structure has allowed the planet to escape a millennia of suffering, colonization, and intergalactic war, far removed from the political happenings of outer space. The Asteria queens are the rulers of Ajin, and they have promised equality, peace, and kindness for all, abiding by their vow for many generations.

Queen Asteria the Eleventh is the new ruler of Ajin. After she turned eighteen in a coming-of-age ceremony, her mother (Empress Asteria the Tenth) abdicated the Queendom throne. Now, Asteria has taken the reins—albeit a bit fearfully. She continues her daily lessons with her mother and lady-in-waiting, Khara. Born and raised in the all-female Ji'Ang warrior tribe, Khara drills Asteria on war tactics and defense strategies. Asteria finds herself becoming stronger, smarter, and more powerful day by day.

On an otherwise peaceful spring day, an army of kings from the outer planets of the Isorropia Galaxy—Usen, Aldmia, and Polmusco—launch an attack on Ajin, trying to steal the planet's (seemingly) infinite water resources. The kings proclaim that the only way to stop the war is if Asteria marries one of them. Obviously, Asteria disagrees, and Ajin enters its first-ever war. Using her ingenious defense tactics and knowledge, Asteria must conquer the invaders with her mother and Khara by her side. She learns that womens' ideals are not prioritized in other realms, and prejudice lurks around every corner. Horrified and outraged by the status quo, Asteria unleashes her terror upon the Isorropia Galaxy, showing that girls are worth much more than just a pretty face—and when provoked, will not hesitate to rule with an iron hand as the queen of kings.
