xxxiii. ❝spider is here to stay❞
au / extended storyline
( year two )

NEYTIRI held her son, Neteyam, in her own arms and Mo'at stepped towards her and attached his queue to a hanging vine. This would be his first time connecting to the tree of souls, and his mothers were very excited for him to form a bond with Eywa and the spirits of those who had come before him.

Odessa held her adoptive daughter, Kiri, in her arms as Mo'at stepped forward and grabbed ahold of her queue gently, placing it to a vines of the sacred tree. It too was the first time that Kiri would be connected to the tree of souls, but it wouldn't be the last time.

Everyone was gathered around the tree of souls as they introduced the children that had been born to the spirits that came before them. Eywa would welcome the children.

Both vines glowed brightly and the pupils of both children dialled as they were greeted by Eywa for the first time.

JAKE stepped towards Odessa with a saddened face, Norm in his human form with a mask on his face standing beside his friend with the same expression.

"She has died?" Odessa asked as she glanced towards the ground. Her people were the Omatikaya Clan, and any of the science geeks that had been chosen to stay — many had died and they mourned those deaths, but it never got easier to know that one life had been lost, even if they were now with Eywa. "Jake? Norm?"

Jake nodded sadly. "She has. She didn't make it unfortunately, and we will bury her and preform the ceremony of death soon."

"Her son?" Odessa asked. She hadn't known the woman who had died, Paz, but she had met with her on many occasions when the woman had asked to learn more about Pandora. "Is he okay?"

"Niave is with the child. He is healthy and hasn't realized that is my is gone." Norm spoke now, confirming that the child was okay, and that he was healthy.

"That is good, did she have a chance to see him before she passed?" Odessa asked, glancing towards one of the buildings where she knew Niave and the child were.

"She did." Jake answered the question that Odessa had asked.

The woman, Paz, had been married to the enemy. Unlike the enemy, she was kind and had a love for the world around her. She enjoyed the science that pandora held, and she was chosen to stay behind — ( and because pregnant woman couldn't go into cryo, she had been forced to stay. The child has been born only a week or so after Kiri had. )

"I'll go check on Miles," Norm spoke and broke the silence that they had been standing in. He could see the wheels in Odessa's head turning as she proceeded the death of yet another person she knew.

"Niave and I offered to raise him." Jake started once he saw Norm step into the building. "Once he is older, or once one of the science geeks can find a mask that would fit him than we can take him into the outside world."

Odessa nodded. The boy was the same age as her daughter. They both were only a few months old now, six to be exact. She knew that if she were to bring this human child home to her mate, Neytiri wouldn't be happy. "That is good, very good. You are great parents to Inkire."

"She wanted me to give you this." Jake handed Odessa a letter. It was small in her large hands. "She said you knew her best, and that you had made Pandora her home after her husband died."

Odessa smiled at Jake, holding the letter in her hand. "Thanks, Jake."

"Of course, Dessa."

ODESSA leaned against her mate as the two held their children again their bodies. The sky had darkened and they were now gazing up at the many of stars.

"What is bothering you, my Dessa?" Neytiri asked as she looked towards her mate, reaching out with the hand that wants holding Kiri and placing it on Odessa. "Is it Paz?"

Odessa nodded. The ceremony of death had been preformed, and many of the Na'vi had gathered to send the human to Eywa. It was a beautiful ceremony, but Odessa just can't wrap her head around the fact that since the RDA had left, she's had to stand by and watch five different death ceremonies for the people. And that wasn't including the ceremonies that had been preformed for the lives they had lost during the war against the RDA. "I feel as if I am failing; as if I can't protect the people."

Neytiri tilted her head to the side. "My Dessa, you are protecting the people. Many have died because of sicknesses or because of old age. You have done nothing wrong."

Odessa still frowned — she knew it wasn't her fault, she had just wished that there was much more she could do. And not to mention the weight she felt that she couldn't shake. "I just wished there was more I could do."

Neytiri leaned against her mate. "You have done lots, my Dessa. You took care of the people during the time of war, you have done great things. You are taking care of the people."

Neteyam squeaked and reached up for his mothers face. Odessa smiled down at her son, shuffling her body so she could adjust the hold she hand in him. She placed her palm against his cheek, and he leaned into the comfort of her hand.
