Garcia had brought in some old Nintendo DS's, so the team were playing Mario Kart, Reid in the lead.

"I'm gonna get you, pretty boy." Morgan shook his head.

"Not a chance." Reid shook his head.

"Out of my way." Fleur then took over the lead.

"My thumbs hurt." Elijah sighed.

"You're doing great." Reid nodded.

"I'm last."

"Don't worry about that." Reid pointed.

"I suppose we've all lost to Fleur anyway. Again." Elijah nodded.

"Hey, we haven't lost yet." Morgan pointed.

"I'm winning those chocolates." Fleur nodded.

"Not if I have anything to do with it." Morgan shook his head.

"Derek Morgan, you watch it."

"Guys, what does a blue shell do?" Elijah raised a brow.

"Elijah!" Fleur gasped.

"It hits the first place player." Reid chuckled.

"So I.. Shouldn't have thrown it?"

"Yes." The boys nodded.

"No!"

"Oops." Elijah looked away.

Reid then overtook Fleur, going over the finish line,"Yes!"

"I did something right!" Elijah smiled.

"This games stupid anyway." Fleur muttered, putting the DS down.

"Hun, it's just a game." Morgan chuckled.

"Stupid game." Fleur shrugged.

"I'm sorry, Fleur." Elijah patted her shoulder.

"No, you're not." Fleur looked away.

"I am."

"Prove it."

"How do I do that?" Elijah sighed.

"Rematch. Me and you." Fleur pointed.

"Fleur, we've already been playing for an hour." Elijah shook his head.

"One more, please?" Fleur held her hands together.

"Will you stop being angry with me?" Elijah asked.

"I will."

"Right-"

"Guys." JJ walked over,"We've got a case."

"I'll battle you on the plane, don't try running." Fleur pointed as she got up.

"I wasn't going to." Elijah shook his head.

Reid took the chocolate packet, opening it and taking a bite as they walked to the Conference Room.

"The Halbert family. They were murdered last night, in their home, in the Denver suburb of Cherry Creek." JJ put pictures on the screen,"This is the third home invasion like this in the last month."

"They kill everyone." Hotch nodded.

"Parents, kids, pets, if they have them. Always families, always nice neighbourhoods." JJ added.

"What do they take?" Reid asked.

"Nothing they can't fit in gneir pockets. Cash, jewellery.." JJ sighed

"Theres hundreds of ways to get cash and jewels without killing entire families." Hotch shook his head.

"That's why home invasions are so hard to profile, multiple motives." Morgan shook his head.

"National statistics show an uptick in home invasions over the last few years. 18% in Colorado." Reid explained.

"You know it's bad when they're inviting us back." Hotch sighed.

"Back?" Fleur raised a brow.

"Things went bad after the JonBenet Ramsay case when a couple of agents publicly criticised local detectives." Hotch shook his head.

"They didn't need us to make them feel bad." Morgan scoffed.

"And that was in Boulder." Elijah pointed.

"Yeah, but the state wide media ran with it and it took on a life of it's own." Hotch sighed.

"I talked to a Lieutenant Nellis. Trust me, they want out help." JJ nodded.

"They need it. The first two invasions were twenty days apart, this last one was just nine days later." Fleur hummed.

"So, they're killing in faster cycles, acquiring a taste." Morgan sighed.

"And getting better each time." Hotch pointed.

*********************************

"Home invasions typically involve the elderly and single females. The fact that entire families are being targeted suggests multiple Unsubs." Reid explained.

"Could mean gang related, revenge motive, personal business." Morgan shrugged.

"I don't think any of these victims are running around in gang circles." Elijah shook his head.

"Sewing circles, more like it. PTA moms, grey flannel dads. These guys are killing the Cleavers." Fleur pointed.

"Strange." Reid nodded.

"The pattern?" Hotch turned.

"No, the Cleavers." Reid shook his head,"Of all the names for a 1950's idyllic TV family. I mean, it's rife with violent implications. Kind of makes you wonder how the writers really felt about Suburbia."

"Focus, please." Hotch nudged him.

"Uhm, okay, what about class-based uprising, Helter Skelter?" Emily suggested.

"There's no graffiti, no messages, at least not visible ones. There's no rituals." Morgan sighed.

"You know, Manson's aim was to start a race war, there's no proof of any hate crime here either." Reid shook his head.

"The parent murders are brutal, messy, the instruments vary. Golf club, kitchen knife, iron." Hotch listed.

"Household implements, symbols of family." Elijah nodded slowly.

"But the kids were different. They died by injection, pentobarbital." Fleur pointed to the file.

"It's a barbiturate, sometimes used as an anticonvulsant for epileptics, anxiety disorders and state executions." Reid explained.

"The invasions are well planned. Phone lines cut. Ligature marks show that the parents were bound and gagged." Hotch continued.

"Looks like these guys had some robbery experience." Morgan nodded.

"And then found their true calling." Emily sighed.

*********************************

"These guys don't lack confidence, targeting entire families is a high risk endeavor." Hotch shook his head.

"It's possible they're minimizing that risk by jamming cell phones inside the house so no one can call out." Reid pointed.

"High-tech, that narrows the profile, right?" Detective Nellis asked.

"Not really. You can buy a handheld jammer online for what, one hundred bucks?" JJ shrugged.

"I could use one of those the next time I go to the movies." He nodded.

That's when Morgans phone rang,"Hey girl, you're on speaker so behave."

"Or what, you'll spank me?" Garcia asked.

"Garcia." Fleur cleared her throat.

"Uh- So, I've been searching the area for unknown robberies. I've found four with similar elements, phone lines cut, small valuables only." Garcia told them.

"Occupants tied up?" Morgan tilted his head.

"Yes, but no homicides." She nodded.

"Thanks doll face, I'll call you back." Morgan hung up.

"If this is our guy, something made them graduate to murder." Elijah crossed his arms.

"If we can figure out what that trigger was, it might tell us how they choose their victims." Fleur sighed.

"That would help. I've been looking into victimology and so far, there's really nothing to commect the families." Morgan shook his head,"Different political affiliations, different careers, different school systems. At this point it seems that are Unsubs are selecting their victims at random."

*********************************

"We're looking for two men. Probably white given the neighbourhoods that they hit. Mid to late twenties, intelligent and organised." Hotch began.

"These are career criminals, one or both has done hard time, but neither presents as a convict." Morgan continued,"They would appear clean-shaven, well-dressed."

"Neighbourly. This helps them talk their way into the homes. They may also he using a ruse." Emily nodded.

"What kind of ruse?" Nellis asked.

"Given that the invasions have taken place in the evening, it could be anything. It could be door to door sales, person in distress, car trouble." Hotch listed.

"Derrick Todd Lee used a tape of a baby crying to get women to open their doors in Baton Rouge. Never underestimate their creativity." Reid pointed.

"These men share a very tight bond and a mutal compulsion to kill, but their signatures reveal two very distinct personalities." Emily sighed.

"One brutalises the parents, this is the dominant one, sadistic, remorseless, extremely volatile." Elijah crossed his arms.

"The other prefers a needle. His injections are consistent with an Angel of Death. He's more withdrawn, sensitive, and he has a warped sense of mercy." Fleur added.

"Agent Morgan is passing out a list of places where he might have access to the drugs he uses." Hotch told them,"It's long, but-"

"Hotch, there's been another one and they're sending an ambulance." JJ ran in.

"Ambulance?" Emily blinked.

"There's a survivor?" Hotch turned.

JJ nodded, looking around at the others.

*********************************

"She's lucky to be alive. The injection went into the soft tissue of the arm. Missed the vein." The doctor spoke as the girls walked through the hospital.

"That's a first, this guy doesn't miss." Emily shook her head.

"Like I said. She's lucky." Fhe doctor sighed.

"Is she conscious?" JJ asked.

"In and out." He shrugged,"Keep in mind, she's suffering the effects of an acute barbiturate overdose. She's drowsy, confused."

"Given what's happened... It's probably best." Fleur sighed.

With that, the girls arrived in the hospital room. The daughter, Carrie, was sat on the bed, looking down.

"Hi, I'm Jennifer Jareau, these are Agents Prentiss and Howards... We're from the FBI, we just want to know exactly what happened last night." JJ sighed.

"I went to get a bag, but when I got back, there were two of them." Carrie began.

"What did the other look like?" Emily asked.

She closed her eyes,"Heavier. Hispanic. Quiet. He never looked straight ahead."

"What do you mean?" Fleur sat down on a chair.

"Like.. A few times I felt him staring at me. When I looked up, he always looked away." Carrie sighed.

"Avoiding eye contact?" Emily tilted her head.

"Then my dad came in from the study, and they jumped him.. They made Danny call from my mom, and then they tied them up.." Her voice shook,"And then one of them went and got the thing from the fireplace, he started hitting them with it. He made us watch.."

"Okay, you know what? We can take a break." JJ nodded, getting up.

"No- You need this, right?" Carrie stopped her,"After a while, the quiet one took Danny away, and the other one just started going through drawers looking for stuff.. And I ran."

*********************************

"Witness says these UnSubs are using cats. We should find out where they might be getting them." Hotch sighed.

"Well, there's plenty of strays out there. Nobody would notice if a few went missing." Morgan shook his head.

"Or they could work some place where they had access to animals." Emily shrugged.

"Could overlap with the pentobarbital. Research labs, veterinary hospitals." Reid nodded.

"I'll get Garcia to make up a list." Morgan walked off.

"Carrie said that they referred to each other as brothers." JJ recalled.

"It's not uncommon for duos to be related. The Hillside Stranglers were cousins, the Carr brothers perpetrated the Wichita Massacre." Reid pointed.

"Yeah, but these two are of different races." Emily sighed,"And Carrie said the Hispanic one did not speak Spanish, which makes me think.."

"Raised in a white household, means they could be half brothers." Fleur nodded.

"What if they're adopted?" Elijah suggested,"Family destruction plays a role in their crimes, it could be a reflection of their own broken home."

"This guy expressed affection for Carrie. We know that he took her photograph. We can use that." Hotch sighed.

"If we release news of her survival, it could draw him out." Reid agreed.

Fleur shook her head, leaning against the wall.

"Not comfortable with that?" Hitch raised a brow.

"Okay, but I would be more comfortable if we doubled her security." Fleur sighed.

*********************************

"Hey, so, Carrie's been cleared to go." Emily turned as JJ walked over.

"I wish she had somewhere to go." JJ sighed.

"No luck with the LA thing?" Fleur shook her head.

JJ sighed, shaking her head.

"Can't this girl catch a break?" Emily asked.

The three continued walking to Carrie's room until they heard her shouting. When they reached Carrie's room, she was screaming, shaking. But nobody was there aside from her. A nightmare.

"Carrie! Wake up, it's okay. Carrie." Fleur held onto Carrie.

"It was daddy.." Carrie cried.

"It was just a dream." Fleur rubbed her back.

"Okay.. I'm okay.." Carrie nodded slowly.

"We brought you a spare change of clothes." Emily told her.

"I didn't know what to grab you, so I just got three of everything." JJ nodded.

"From the house?" Carrie asked

JJ nodded again as Emily looked around the room, noticing three vases of flowers.

"It looks like a flower shop in here." She commented.

"Yeah, they all started coming in after the news broadcast." Carrie sighed.

*********************************

"The exact same floral arrangement was in the Ortiz living room." Emily sighed.

"Could be coincidence." Hotch shrugged.

"Or the sender was in the house, associated it with her." She pointed.

"No note?" Hotch asked.

"No. Just a blank card from the floral shop." Fleur nodded.

"Get Garcia to track the delivery, and Reid's got something for us when you're done." Hotch instructed before walking off.

"Hey, Garcia it's Flo." Fleur called her.

"Why cats?"

"Sorry?"

"Evil has no boundaries." Garcia shook her head.

"Well, for what it's worth, I think they go peacefully." Emily sighed.

"Yeah, how do we track these guys?" Garcia asked.

"Backtrace a flower delivery for me."

*********************************

"This is the Laybourne house, where we believe our Unsubs graduated from robbery to murder." Reid pointed to the ocutures on the board.

"Did you find a trigger?" Morgan asked.

"Not until I looked at the daughter's autopsy report." Reid told him,"Check out the brushes on her torso."

"She was beaten." Elijah nodded slowly.

"But not by our UnSubs. The coroner noted those bruises were several days old. It turns out she'd been to the emergency room three times in the less than two years. The DSS had even been notified." Reid explained.

"So the Laybournes were abusing their daughter. Where's this going?" Morgan shook his head.

"One of the UnSubs decimates parental figures. We know the statistics there, he was most likely abused himself." Reid sighed.

"So you're saying the Unsub recognizes the signs of abuse, flew into a rage and killed the parents?" Hotch asked.

"Anger displacement. He's getting revenge for his own childhood abuse." Reid nodded.

"So you think the victims were beating their kids?" Nellis asked.

"The Laybourne case was just the trigger, but now they see all parents the same." Reid shrugged.

"No, that doesn't explain the kids."

"Mayhe it does." Elijah nodded slowly.

"Think of the family annihilators, John List and Mark Barton. They thought they were saving their kids by killing them." Morgan explained.

"But what us he saving them from?" Nellis questioned.

"A life without their parents, without love, a life like his." Elijah sighed.

"They're orphans. What if they grew up in a third-party household?" Reid suggested.

"What, like a Foster home?" Nellis tilted his head.

"Didn't Carrie describe an aversion to eye contact?" Hotch asked.

"Oppositional Defiant Disorder." Reid pointed.

"Often seen in kids who grew up in foster homes." Hotch nodded.

"Guys, I think we might have found our girls secret admirer." Fleur and Emily walked over.

"Garcia tracked the flowers?" Morgan raised a brow.

"Yeah. Paid for by phone with a credit card under the name Robert Serrano." Emily pointed.

*********************************

"My god, Ervin? I mean, he had behavior problems, they all did, but nothing we couldn't handle." The foster mom, Mrs Manwaring shook her head.

"And he hasn't been acting alone, Mrs Manwaring, he's got a partner." Hotch nodded.

"Perhaps someone else who grew up in your care?" Elijah suggested, turning his head as a young boy walked in.

The young boy tried to open the fridge but it was padlocked.

"Tyler, the adults are talking here." Mrs Manwaring crossed her arms.

"I just want some milk. Can you open the fridge?" Tyler asked her.

"You know the rules." She shrugged, fidgeting with the key around her neck.

Tyler looked down, walking off. Elijah crossed his arms, looking away from Mrs Manwaring.

"They'll eat you out of house and home, if you let them." She shook her head.

"Is there anyone Ervin was especially close to?" Emily asked.

"Someone he would have looked up to? Somebody who protected him?" Hotch tried.

That's when Mrs Manwaring's eyes went wide,"Gary."

She then wandered to the living room, grabbing a picture of the two boys together.

"We tried with him, but he tested us."

"Have you kept in touch with him?" Hotch asked.

"Oh, God no." Mrs Manwaring scoffed,"Gary left the day he turned eighteen, never looked back. Ervin was a mess when he got here. He'd been separated from a younger sister."

"Where did she go?" Emily raised a brow.

"Nobody told me. Siblings get separated all the time. But they find new ones here." She shrugged.

"Like Ervin found Gary." Elijah sighed.

"What was the name of his sister? The one he was separated from." Emily asked.

"Oh, let me think. Uh.. He used to call our her name in the middle of the night, wake the whole house up." Mrs Manwaring shook her head, rolling her eyes,"Hal, what was that girl's name again? Rosie, I think."

"Lucy?" Emily tilted her head.

"Yes, Lucy. Lucy. That was it." She nodded.

"Carrie said he called her Lucy." Emily turned to the boys as Hotch's phone rang.

"Hotchner. Yeah, just leaving." Hitch then hung up,"Ervin returned the call, he's on his way to work."

"Thank you." Emily nodded to Mrs Manwaring as they all left.

*********************************

Elijah and Fleur walked into the interview room with Carrie, Ervin sat at the table.

"You're here." Ervin smiled,"Did you get the flowers I sent?"

"Yeah.. Pretty." Carrie nodded.

"They were to say that I'm sorry."

"Flowers aren't enough, Ervin. We need Gary." Elijah told him.

"That won't make it up though."

"It's a start." Fleur nodded.

"No." Ervin shook his head, looking over at Carrie,"Cause they're gonna send you away now. Don't you see? That's what they do with all the strays. They send them away. That's why I make them go to sleep, so they don't have to suffer.."

"Ervin, more people are going to suffer if we can't find Gary." Fleur sighed.

"So, when you killed my brother, you were doing him a favor?" Carrie asked, tears in her eyes.

"It's true." Ervin moved forward.

"And what about me?"

"Wait, let's just address one thing at a time-" Fleur tried.

"Cause I just wanted to see you again. You look so much like Lucy." Ervin shook his head,"I couldn't. I know- I know it's selfish but I-"

"Selfish? It's insane!" Carrie scoffed.

"Okay, Carrie, let's take a break." Elijah reached out to her.

"What happened to you that was so bad?" Carrie pushed Elijah's hands back.

"She used to make it... Go dark." Ervin looked down,"I mean, that's what we used to call it. She'd put me in the bathtub, to pray, and then she put my head down under the water.. Sometimes I could stay awake for like, a minute, sometimes a little more.. But then it would all go dark."

Carrie reached out, taking Ervin's hand,"They can't hurt you anymore, Ervin."

"I wanted to stop, but Gary he- He went through it way, way worse when we were kids and he- And he never got the chance to fight back.."

"So he thought those other families." Fleur sighed.

Ervin nodded,"Only because I wouldn't go back."

"Back?" Elijah's face fell as the realization hit him,"Gary's going to your foster home, isn't he?"

Ervin then looked down, Carrie pulling her hands away as she began to cry again. That's when two officers came in, taking Ervin away.

"Carrie, you did so good. You did good." Fleur quickly hugged her.

*********************************

"Guys, fall back. I don't want him feeling boxed in." Hotch pointed as he walked over, putting on his vest.

"I got sharpshooters lining up." Nellis nodded.

"Tell them to keep their safeties on. I want to talk to him first." Elijah shook his head.

"Eli. I got the clerk." Fleur held up the phone.

Elijah nodded, taking the phone,"The guy sitting at the table with the little boy, I'd like to speak with him, please."

"You got a call over here, man." The clerk spoke.

Gary then walked to the phone, letting Tyler stand in front of him,"Who's this?"

"I'm the only thing standing in between you and a bullet." Elijah answered.

"Well, bring it. I always wanted to die in a donut shop." Gary hummed.

"And never see Ervin again?" Elijah raised a brow,"He told us what the Manwarings did to you in that house."

"I don't care what he told you. It's history." Gary shrugged.

"They're the objects of your anger, Gary, not that little boy in there."

"It's too late for the boy, regardless."

"No, it's not. It's not Gary. And deep down, I think you know that he still has a chance." Elijah shook his head,"He doesn't have to be you."

It was silent for a second before Gary spoke,"Maybe, maybe not. So, what say we leave it up to him?" He hung up.

"What is it? What did he say?" Nellis asked.

Elijah bit his lip, holding the phone and looking at the donut shop door. Tyler then walked out, looking around.

"Tyler!" Morgan quickly grabbed him, running off to the side with Emily.

Then, Gary walked out, looking around at them.

"Gary! Put your hands up where I can see them. Don't move." Morgan quickly moved forward, gun drawn.

Gary raised his hands, kneeling down as the other officers approached him.

"Get on your knees. Interlace your fingers behind your head."

The Agents all walked up, looking at Gary as he was handcuffed and taken away.

"I don't know what you did, but nice work." Nellis patted Elijahs back.

Elijah shook his head,"Thanks."

Over at the car, Fleur was making sure the kids were okay when she heard Morgan on the phone,"What is it?"

"Social services won't intervene until they complete a full investigation." He sighed.

"We have to take them home?" Fleur blinked.

"Yeah." He sighed.

"I'll get Elijah to help me take them. You go to the station." Fleur kissed his cheek before she ran to Elijah.

"Are they going someplace safe?" Elijah turned to her.

"We have to take them home." Fleur sighed.

"You're kidding."

"Social services won't intervene." She shook her head.

"They're fucking useless." Elijah cursed.

"Tell me about it." Fleur scoffed,"Come on."

"Right." Elijah nodded slowly.

*********************************

"This the place?" Fleur asked as she parked.

"This is it." Elijah sighed.

Fleur got out, opening the door for the kids, Tyler walking ahead.

"Tyler, let me talk to you for a second." Elijah walked up to him,"Kid, listen to me. Anything you ever need, any problem you're having here at home, I want you to know that you can call me, anytime, Tyler. You understand? Anytime." Elijah held out his card, his phone number on it.

Tyler nodded, taking the card as Fleur walked over. The two watched as the siblings went into the house. Mrs Manwaring hugging the girl but Tyler walked straight in.

"This sucks." Fleur cursed and began to walk back to the SUV.

"Can't believe we have to leave them here." Elijah shook his head as he got in.

Just as the two were belting up, Elijah's phone rang.

Elijah sighed and answered,"Yeah, Hotch?"

"Are you still with the kids?"

"We just dropped them off, we're leaving." He told him.

"Did you check either of their backpacks?"

"Backpacks? No, why? Why would we check the backpacks-"

That's when they heard gunshots.

"Shit." Fleur cursed, quickly getting out and running into the house, her gun drawn.

When they got inside, Mrs Manwaring was on the ground with Tyler holding the gun.

"Tyler, drop that gun." Elijah shook his head.

"Are you hurt?" Fleur looked down at Mrs Manwaring.

"No.." She told her.

"Tyler. Come on, darling. Take it easy." Elijah started to approach him.

The two looked around, Tyler had shot all of the pictures. The happy faces. It was all a ruse.

"They're lies."

"I know. But you could've come in here and you could've made her pay. And you didn't, because you're good. You're not Gary. No, you're nothing like him." Elijah lowered his gun, putting it away,"Look at me. I don't want to hurt you, okay? Let's make a deal. You give me that gun, and I promise you, I will walk you out of here and you will never have to come back.. That sound pretty good? Yeah?"

Tyler nodded slowly,"Okay.."

"Give me the gun." Elijah held his hand out.

Tyler hesitated, holding the gun out to Elijah as he teared up.

Elijah took the gun, quickly passing it back to Fleur before he pulled Tyler into a hug,"I've got you.. I've got you."

*********************************

"Tell me they restocked the bar." Morgan sighed as they all got onto the plane.

"I called ahead." JJ nodded.

"Good." Fleur poured herself a drink before sitting down on the couch, pulling her knees to her chest.

"You okay?" Morgan asked her.

Fleur looked at him,"Just... Got upset about the case."

"Because of the kids?" Morgan sat beside her.

"Yeah.. I would do anything to keep them safe. I even- I offered to take Carrie in." Fleur held her head.

"You did?"

Fleur nodded,"It's stupid, I know. I just thought of what it's like to be a mother."

"Hey, I think you'd make a great mom." Morgan told her, rubbing her back.

Fleur looked at Morgan,"You think?"

"I do think." Morgan kissed her cheek.

"Would you want kids?"

"I would."

"Really?"

"Really."

Fleur leaned into Morgan, looking up at him.

"I love you, Flo." Morgan hummed.

"I love you too. Even if you call me 'Escargot'." Fleur laughed.

"I'm just glad you're over that Mario Kart fiasco." Morgan chuckled.

"Never pick a fight with me."

"Trust me, babygirl, I won't."

Fleur hummed and leaned back.

"Elijah?" Reid sat down.

"Hm?" Elijah looked over at him.

"You've been staring at the picture of Tyler for thirteen minutes and 26 seconds now." He sighed.

"You've been timing me?" Elijah chuckled softly.

"Not really." He hummed.

"Well, you got me." Elijah raised his hands.

"Penny for your thoughts?"

"I just... He reminds me of myself." Elijah sighed.

"He does look like you."

"He does.."

Reid sighed and leaned against him,"How does he remind you of yourself?"

"His situation." Elijah shook his head,"When I saw Mrs Manwaring, I... Saw my mother."

"She used to act like that?"

"She did."

"I'm sorry, babe."

"No- No, it's okay."

"Hopefully we never have to see her again."

Elijah nodded slowly, hugging Reid.

"When we get home, let's have some cuddles, yeah?"

"Please?" Elijah looked up at him.

"Of course." Reid chuckled.

"Thank you." Elijah leaned against him.
