"Did you have a nice run?" Fleur asked as Morgan came back into the apartment with Beau.

"We did, didn't we buddy?" Morgan smiled as he undid Beau's leash.

Beau panted and ran towards his waterbowl.

"He'll be all tired out now." Morgan chuckled.

"Gives me some peace." Fleur hummed.

"I'm gonna head for a shower, don't want to stink at work."

"You already stink." Fleur laughed.

"Oh, now that's just lovely." Morgan poked her.

Fleur hummed,"Can..I join?"

Morgan smirked,"Come on, that's not even a question.

"Good. Race you!" Fleur slapped his arm and ran off.

"Oh, you're on, baby girl." Morgan quickly followed after her.

After the two had showered, their phones rang.

Morgan sighed, towel wrapped around his waist as he walked out of the bathroom to his phone,"What's up?"

"We got a case hunk, but they'll meet you on the plane." Garcia hummed.

"It's good to hear your voice in the morning, baby girl." Morgan sighed,"We'll be there."

"You sound all tired. Did I wake you?"

"No, I've just been on my morning run is all." Morgan told her.

"Oh! Okay, good then." Garcia nodded,"I'll speak to you later, my dark, mysterious man."

"I'll speak to you too, dollface." Morgan chuckled as Garcia ended the call.

"Who was that?" Fleur walked out the bathroon

"Garcia, we've got a case." Morgan turned to her.

"Of course." Fleur nodded,"Right, let me find some clothes."

"Are you sure you don't wanna go like that?" Morgan joked.

"As much as you would like that Derek Morgan, no." Fleur hummed.

"Worth a shot."

"Another time." Fleur walked off.

"Hey, how was your weekend?" Emily asked as they walked over.

"Scary, yet informative." Reid turned around,"Was the whole family killed?"

"Hudson, this is Doctor Spencer Reid." Rossi introduced them.

"Field Agent Anne Hudson." Hudson shook Reid's hand,"The father is serving in Iraq. Three nights ago the cops found his family buried over there."

"Buried?" Elijah raised a brow.

"Neighbours heard the dog barking. Came over here, he was scratching at the grave. Lucy, their oldest child was still in her swimsuit." Emily explained.

"What does the father know?" Hotch asked.

"Some of it. He was on patrol. Took his unit a couple of days to reach him. He arrives today." Hudson explained.

"Last year, the Williams family was killed and found in the exact same way. They lived in Newport News." Rossi told them.

"The father, Dan Williams was also serving overseas." Fleur added.

"Now, the police are overwhelmed and getting serious heat from the military. We need some answers fast." Hudson pointed.

"As do the media. They're already calling this the work of a serial killer." JJ sighed.

"They're right. It is." Hotch nodded.

"But why bury them? I mean, it can't be to hide the bodies." Hudson shook her head.

"It's a sign of remorse." Elijah sighed.

"And when they're done being remorseful, this will happen again." Morgan walked off.

*********************************

"F-22 Raptor." Morgan looked up at the sky as a plane flew overhead.

"Yeah. It's about to get way louder and much busier. Tomorrow is Langley's 50th Anniversary Air Show." Hudson explained.

"The father of the first family, Dan Williams. Where is he now?" Morgan asked.

"He put in for another tour of Iraq. An IED killed him a few months ago."

"Whoever did this knew both fathers were serving overseas." He nodded.

"Laura Downey's wedding rings are missing. Any other valuables?" Fleur asked.

"We'll have to ask the family. From the Williams family, only jewelery and watches were taken." Hudson told him.

"The Unsub only took what he could carry, which most likely means he's on foot." Reid pointed out

"There was a photo on the wall in the kitchen. I'd like to see it." Rossi walked over to the group.

"Sure." Hudson nodded.

"There was no sign of sexual assault in the Williams case. What about Lucy?" Elijah asked.

"Nothing on the coroners report. Multiple suspects?" Hudson tilted her head.

"The mother was dragged outside.. If it was multiple suspects, they probably would've carried her."

"He knew the father was absent, therefore the dominant threat was absent, so we could be looking for a single suspect." Morgan explained.

"No sign of forced entry." Hudson pointed.

"No need. Lucy was in the pool. Back door was open. The Unsub walked right in." Hotch sighed.

"It means Lucy probably died last." Reid nodded.

"In both cases, the girls were suffocated and not shot. I don't think it's a coincidence." Hotch shrugged.

That's when JJ's phone rang,"Hey Garcia, you're on speaker."

"We just got a call from Virginia Supermax prison. One of the inmates there has received two envelopes in the last two days. The first envelope had clippings of the Newport News killings, second envelope had media clippings of the Downey family. In the second envelope was a note saying, 'look what I've done'. And both pieces of mail were signed by An admirer." Garcia ranted.

"Who's the inmate?" JJ asked.

"That's the part that.. Karl Arnold." Garcia nodded.

"The Fox?" Fleur blinked.

"Not that guy." Elijah muttered.

"He's back." Garcia sighed.

"Okay, thanks." JJ hung up.

"Family annihilator. Absent father. Wedding rings, it's simular." Hotch nodded.

"To what?" Hudson asked.

"Four years ago, Karl Arnold aka the Fox killed eight families." Fleur sighed.

"And just like this case, he took wedding rings, only he took them as trophies." Reid continued.

"He'd hide in the bushes outside of their homes." Rossi added.

"He also threw a literal baby at me." Fleur pointed.

"And he cut me." Elijah added.

"So we're working with a copycat here?" Hudson asked.

"It's too early to assume anything." Hotch shook his head.

"It could bias the profile." Reid nodded.

"Not to mention the police, the media and the military would jump all over it." Emily crossed her arms.

"Until we're positive, none of this information leaves the nine of us. Hotch, you gave evidence at Arnold's trial. I think you should go see him." Morgan turned to him.

"I'd like to take Prentiss and Howards with me." Hotch nodded,"Have Garcia check on all of Arnold's prison correspondence and visitors for the last four years."

"Okay." JJ looked at her phone as it buzzed,"Captain Joseph Downey just arrived back at the station."

*********************************

"So why wait a year to send Karl a note? Unless they were communicating the full time." Emily suggested.

"That's the first thing we need to find out. But Karl has a big ego. He's going to want to answer every question with a question." Hotch told them,"He'll try to gain an advantage with me by asking why I'm not wearing my wedding ring. And then he'll turn his attention to you two."

"So that's why you brought me along. He also wouldn't expect to see Fleur after so long either." Emily shook her head.

"Your presence will throw him off guard." Hotch nodded,"Then he's going to want to describe to you in graphic detail every sexual act he committed on the families."

"To freak me out?" Emily asked.

"To pull you into his fantasy." Fleur nodded.

"Control. Open on 16." A guard spoke, the red gate in front of them opening soon after.

"Go ahead. Keep your eyes forward." Hotch told the girls as they walked in,"More than anything, he's going to want to see the images of the children."

"Well, we can't give him that." Fleur looked at him.

"We have to give him something or we won't get anything from him." Hotch shook his head.

That's when an inmate jumped at his door and started screaming, scaring Emily, so Fleur placed a hand on her back.

"Isn't that.." Emily began.

"Garret Pain." Hotch nodded,"It's reinforced glass."

"Easy for you to say. He tore apart fourteen women."

"Open on 15." A guard ordered as the door opened. The trio walking inside.

There he was, Karl Arnold. Sat at the table, his hands cuffed

"Hello Karl." Hotch nodded to him.

"Agent Hotchner. Agent Howards. I wasn't informed you were bringing a.." Karl looked between Emily and the other two,".. They just said three agents."

"This is Agent-" Hotch began.

"Emily... Prentiss. I know all about you." Karl hummed.

*********************************

Hotch and the girls sat in front of Karl, the evidence spread out on the table.

"Karl, it appears you have a fan."

"Admirer. Not fan. Big difference, right?" Karl hummed.

"Is this the first time you've been contacted by your 'admirerer'?" Emily asked him.

"I have many fans. Even my own website. Don't you all?" Karl tilted his head.

Hotch just stared down Karl, not giving him an inch.

"I make a log of all of them. Would you like to read some?" Karl hummed.

"I would love to." Fleur nodded.

"You'd love to?" Karl asked, hand on his book,"Yes. Here, look."

Emily leaned forward, going to take the book. As she leaned forward, Karl did as well, although Hotch took the book and handed it to Emily before he could do anything.

"Maybe later." Fleur sighed,"Your admirer is taking wedding rings, just like you."

"But maybe not for the same reason." Hotch nodded.

"Like how you took all of mine." Karl mentioned,"You took mine, but I see you lost yours."

"Eight rings. Four families. Or wss it one ring for each fanily?" Hotch tilted his head.

"How'd you come to lose your ring?" He chuckled,"Wait, don't tell me. A casualty of the job."

"My job is what put you in here."

"True. But then it's the children that suffer the most. Wouldn't you agree?"

"You'd know more about that than me." Hotch told him.

"Which is why you came to me. I can help you with that, Agent Hotchner. I certainly can... But I'll need to see those photos... May I?"

Emily then turned to Hotch,"..A word?"

"Is there a problem, Emily?" Karl asked.

"There is no problem, Karl." Hotch stood up and turned, leaving the room with both girls.

"We can not show him these." Fleur held the files.

"These images will be his undoing and our way in." Hotch told her.

"But they're not just images." Emily sighed.

"That's exactly what they are." Hotch shook his head.

"We can't use Lucy like that." Fleur crossed her arms.

"It's a trade-off we have to make."

"So we are using a dead twelve year old girl in a bathing suit as a bargaining chip? For what?" Fleur scoffed.

"To him, that's not a photograph. It's much, much more and we need to know what." Hotch explained.

"Look- I've never done this before." Emily sighed.

"And you don't have to now." Hotch assured her.

"Yes I do." Emily nodded.

"Alright, when I feel like he's ready to talk, I'll leave the room. You two get him talking. Whatever he does, whatever you feel, just stay on script." Hotch instructed,"We need to know why he killed those families."

*********************************

"So Lucy dies last, alone. This by itself doesn't really mean anything. But when we look again at the Williams file we notice that the majority of the foreign fingerprints came from Karen Williams' room. Which means that the UnSub spent most of his time in there with Karen." Reid explained.

"Then he must've seperated her from the rest of the family." Hudson shook her head.

"Lucy Downey was already in the pool. That much was done for the UnSub." Rossi shrugged.

"Then this Unsub is driven by some other compulsion, some other need." Morgan shook his head.

"Hotch was right. This isn't a coincidence, it's a possible signature." Reid realised.

Elijah grabbed a pen and started writing on the whiteboard,"We need to look at each of the victims as a hub, with lives outside of their own families."

"Well, each one of them has their own connections outside the family. School friends, tutors, business colleagues." Morgan shook his head.

"And each of these people are considered access points back to the family." Reid nodded.

"That could take weeks." Hudson sighed.

"Well, you have time. From remorse and the desire to kill again, the Unsub will go through a gamut of emotions." Morgan told her.

"It could be another year before the UnSub feels the desire to kill again." Reid shrugged.

"As horrific as these crimes are, this city doesn't have the resources to commit that amount of time." Hudson shook her head.

That's when JJ walked into the room,"We have full access to all military records for the fathers."

"Well, now at least we have access to the main hub between families." Rossi nodded.

Elijah drew a line on the board that linked the fathers,"The dads."

"Alright, well, let's find out what connects them." Morgan nodded.

*********************************

"Stand up." Hotch ordered as he walked back inside with the girls,"You want to see, don't you?"

"Very much so." He nodded.

"We're going to show you." Hotch told Karl as the guard uncuffed him.

They began placing down the pictures of the crime. Showing the picture of the family last.

"This is the home of the Downey family. There were three children." Hotch told him.

"How old are the children?" Karl hummed.

"Twelve, nine and four. A girl and two boys."

"Where were they found?"

"Over there." Hotch nodded to the image.

"Buried? Interesting." He nodded.

"Laura, the mother, and the two boys were killed inside the house." Hotch continued.

"The daughter?"

Hotch stayed quiet before he went on,"This is where the mother and the youngest son were killed. The other boy was shot in the bedroom closet."

"Where's the father?" He asked.

"Overseas." Fleur nodded.

"The killer knows this." Hotch added.

"He knows everything about this family. And he watched their every move to be sure he achieves what he needs." Karl laughed,"You have no idea how he knows the father is gone or how he targets these families. And the how, that's the key. The how is why he was able to catch me."

"You watched the families for days." Emily crossed her arms.

"Weeks." He corrected, I got to know them. But not your guy, he doesn't need weeks. If he did, he'd stay longer."

"Why?"

"So he could enjoy them. But what I don't understand is-"

"Why he didn't seperate the children." Hitch cut him off.

"Exactly." He pointed,"That way you have more control. No room for error."

"Why he didn't put the boys in seperate rooms and say,'If you cry..'"

"I'll have to kill mommy." He hummed, pointing to the picture of Lucy,"Tell me, how did the girl die?"

"She was drowned." Hotch answered.

"Yet the others were shot." Karl tilted his head, leaning closer to them,"May I see her?"

Fleur quickly pulled away the file as Karl reached for it,"What's so special about the girl?"

Karl leaned back, crossing his arms,"To suffocate her, to feel the life leave her body, means everything to the man that did this."

"To you, maybe, but not to this killer. Not in the same way." Hotch shook his head.

"All I did was show them how weak fathers could be. That's all." Karl shrugged.

"Every child you killed, you abused physically." Fleur added.

"For this man, ther eis no sexual gratification." Emily shook her head.

"At least I spared the fathers the grief of living." He shrugged.

*********************************

The team pulled up outside a house and headed inside, a crowd of people across the street. Another family had been killed, buried in their own back yard.

"The girl was suffocated, not shot, right?" Morgan asked.

"Yes." Hudson nodded.

Morgan bent down,"Just like the other two."

"Her name is Dani, she's fourteen." Hudson told them.

"And the father?"

"Afghanistan." Hudson nodded,"Does this rule out remorse?"

"Yes, it does." Rossi nodded..

"So what is it, now?" Hudson asked.

"The escalation between kills indicates a major, psychological break." Elijah crossed his arms.

"How has it escalated?" Hudson asked.

"The time frame between kills has gone from a year to three days." Rossi answered.

"For the UnSub, something has dramatically changed." Reid told her.

"Some major external stressor forced this Unsub to feel the need to kill again without remorse." Elijah sighed.

"Minor neurons and stressor relating to the UnSubs past may have triggered this, the strongest of which is smell." Reid added.

"And sound." Morgan looked up as the planes flew overhead,"The Williams' were killed a year ago."

"Were there any military maneuvers going on in Langley at that time?" Rossi asked.

"The annual airshow, but nothing as big as this." Hudson shook her head.

*********************************

"He's killed again, hasn't he? Luckily for me." Karl hummed.

"Luckily?" Emily scoffed.

"Now we're all alone." Karl nodded.

"You stated that the families didn't know their killer. Why?" Emily continued.

"Now we wait, right? Us three? See if my admirer contacts me? He will." He pointed.

"Yours was one of the first cases I studied.

"Was it?"

"Mhm.. I've been fascinated ever since." She hummed.

"With what?"

"You."

"Seriously. Once she found out she was coming here? She would not shut up." Fleur chuckled.

Karl laughed,"And now, you want to know what I did to the children... Don't you?"

"Yes." Emily nodded.

"I can show you. I can show you exactly what I did to them."

"Tell us." Emily hummed.

Karl leaned forward,"Children are so precious. So clean. But they need guidance, especially the girls."

"Why?" Fleur asked.

"Girls have much more to lose than boys. It's a fact that the female body can handle pain much better." Karl explained.

"What did you do to them?" Emily leaned back.

"I showed them what men, their fathers and brothers, are capable of." He answered.

"Are you sure you want to know?"

"Yes."

"Once I killed the children it always amazed me how little the father fought the inevitable."

"Which was what?" Emily raised a brow.

"Dying."

*********************************

"Karl, I never thought you'd be this honest." Hotch admitted.

"It takes a good woman to make an honest man. And anyway, let's face it, they're both prettier than you." Karl hummed.

"Karl, do you know why you killed all those families?" Emily raised a brow.

"I've already told you why." He sighed.

"No. You told us how, not why." Fleur crossed her arms.

"And the reasons why in this case are very different than they were for you." Hotch told him.

"They're very very different." Fkeur nodded.

"And as you have so eloquently been pointing out to Agents Howards, and Prentiss, all of your motivations were about sex." Hotxh pointed.

"Motivations you learned from your father." Emily added.

"You really have done your research on me, Emily. I'm flattered." He leaned backwards.

"You're also filled with feelings of extreme self hatred." Fleur hummed.

"It must be distracting, working with someone so beautiful." Karl looked up at Hotch.

"You forced those men to watch their children die, and here's why, Karl. Here's why you are what you are." Emily began.

"What I wouldn't do to you.." Karl shook his head.

"By killing the fathers last, you were killing your own father, and ultimately yourself, over and over again." Emily raised a brow.

Karl leaned back, stroking his beard,"This isn't over, Agent Hotchner. At least not for you."

"Wait, Hotch. For Karl, it's all about the fathers. In this case, it's all about the girls. They died last, they're laid out last. None of them are shot. None of them show any signs of sexual motive. What if we applied that logic to these killings?" Emily looked at him.

"It's something we hadn't considered." He shook his head.

"Why would we? It's so rare."

"What is?" Karl asked.

"The UnSub's a woman." Fleur nodded.

"A woman?" Karl blinked.

"I'll go tell Morgan." Fleur ran off.

*********************************

"Alright, we'll work it in right now." Morgan hung up,"Flo thinks the Unsub might be a woman."

"That could explain why we couldn't find the sexual motive." Rossi sighed.

"Wherever she's from, her father's a military man." Morgan nodded.

"Guys, I've got a hit. INTERPOL. Two hits. Three hits. Three crime scenes. Three different cities. The first, Zagreb 1998. A woman and her eight month old baby are both killed. And then two years later, same prints show up in Modena, Italy. Then 2007, London England. Young couple, both shot." Garcia explained.

"You were right. She's killed before." Hudson sighed.

"Zagreb is the capital city of Croatia." Reid mentioned.

"Is that significant?"

"Between 1991 and 1995, they fought a bitter battle for independence." Reid nodded.

"Serbian forces tried to ethnically cleanse over 40,000 Bosnian Muslims." Elijah sighed.

"And at some point in the last two years, she's moved to America." Morgan realised.

"She's on the run." JJ nodded.

"And ran right into a city filled with military families." Rossi added.

"The only mass graves reminiscent of the ones the Unsub created were found all over Bosnia after the war. But none of them rivaled that at Srebrenica." Reid informed them.

"Dutch UN forces created a safe haven for refugees." Garcia added over the phone.

"Then in 1995, Bosnian Serb forces surrounded the town." Reid contiued.

"A psychopath born in the middle of conflict? That's not a good mix." Rossi sighed.

"She's exacting her life experiences onto her vicitms." Elijah shook his head.

"You think this woman was there?" Hudson asked.

"Well, think about it. Langley's filling up with civilians and military vehicles, just like Srebrenica." He sighed.

"Can you determine her age?" Hudson raised a brow.

"Based on victimology, each of these girls is no older than fifteen." Morgan began.

"The Balkan War lasted between 93' and 95', so if the girls represent the UnSub then she's somewhere in her late twenties." Reid continued.

"How did Srebrenica end?" Hudson questioned.

"It was a massacre." Reid sighed.

*********************************

"I don't think this woman has anything to do with Karl." Hotch shook his head.

"I encouraged him." Fleur sighed.

"Ugh, I flirted with him, made it personal.." Emily groaned,"Getting intimate with a killer is so different."

"It's what we do." Hotch told her.

"Yeah, but there's no fixing what I feel right now, is there?" Emily shook her head.

"No, but it helps the case. You did what you had to do." He assured her.

"Agent Hotchner? Before you go, there's one final thing I'd like to share with you." Karl spoke through the video feed.

Emily sighed,"Let's just get this over with."

"So, you think you've found my admirer. A woman." Karl began as they walked into the room.

"No. We found the killer." Emily answered.

"With my help, of course." Karl nodded.

"Your 'admirer' is just like everyone else that contacts you. Lost." She pointed.

"My love, your guy is far from lost."

"We're done." Hotch shook his head.

"So is he." Karl lifted the note up from before,"Look at what I've done."

"We will find whoever sent you that."

"No, Agent Hotchner, I rather think he's already found you." Karl smirked.

Hotch paused before he grabbed the files and began flicking through the pages.

"Hotch?" Fleur asked.

"I can't believe you can't see what he's doing." Karl chuckled.

"What's going on?" Emily blinked.

"He's torturing him."

"Who?"

"It's great to see you squirm, Agent Hotchner." Karl hummed.

Hotch went through the notebook until he landed on one of Foyet's notes and the newspaper clipping from when he was attacked.

"Foyet." Fleur's eyes widened.

"He knew you'd come!" Karl laughed.

The three of them quickly rushed out of the interrogation room, Hotch grabbing his phone as Karl just laughed.
