Devon Jackson walked through the streets of New York City in her black hoodie and headphones. Her backpack was unusually light, probably because she had left a lot of her belongings inside the hotel room she was staying in. She wondered how long she and her dad would stay in that hotel. He said he was getting his work transferred soon, so hopefully they would get an apartment or something decent.

Some street vendors yelled at her to buy things, like churros, but Dev ignored them. The fifteen year old had no time for churros, even though her stomach was slightly grumbling. She rolled her eyes at herself and continued her walk.

Before she reached the crosswalk, there were some cries and people started pointing upwards. She raised her eyes to look towards the skyscrapers, her hood falling off of her head to reveal her slightly fluffy brown hair. She saw a figure above outside the apartments. What the hell...The figure gracefully swung from building to building and seemed to be dressed in red cloth. Dev recognized him as the internet famous Spider-Man. She sighed and began to walk again, pulling the hood over her head again. I wonder if the special school knows the Spider-Man. That'd be interesting.

Soon enough, Dev reached the school she had been looking for. She looked down at her phone and looked back up. The picture matched perfectly. Maybe this would finally be the place to accept her.

Suddenly, Dev's phone buzzed in her hand, making her jump slightly. Her back burned a little, something that happened when she got scared or excited. She looked down and saw her second oldest brother's name pop up. Dev grinned. Matt always made things better. Always.

"Hey Matthias Freddie Jackson," she said, lifting the phone to her ear.

"Hello to you, Devon Marie Jackson!" Her brother's loud, Irish accented voice greeted her ears. She laughed. "How's the Big Apple?!"

"It's like a shit version of LA," Dev commented. She walked through more people and saw some students doing exercise on the field behind the big black gate even though it was summer. Probably sports kids getting ready for the upcoming season. They looked pretty normal. She frowned.

"Aw c'mon, Dev!" Matt said. She imagined him pouting. "It can't be that bad. You and Da have only been there for like three days!"

"Yeah and you're off in Dublin with Aunt Iz, you lucky bastard. I see you've got a stronger accent too, finally." She laughed. Matt laughed too.

"Yep! I'm proud of it!" he said cheerfully. "I see you still got a bit of your accent. Prissy little Brit, eh?" Dev rolled her eyes.

"I don't have a full American one yet, calm down; I've only been in New York for two days."

"You and Da lived in California with Brendan for like three years."

"Yeah, so what? I like my accent." She heard his laugh a bit.

"Has Brendan called yous yet? He texted me that he misses you both, the wuss."

"If he heard you say that, he'd give you a black eye again."

"Yeah yeah. He's so big and bad," Matt said. Dev imagined him grinning. There was some loud talking in the background of the call.

"What are you even doing over there?" Devon asked, intrigued. "If you're drinking, Da'll kill you."

"Yeah yeah I know, I'm not," Matt said. There was a pause. "Hey sorry Dev, but I gotta go. Class is starting soon."

"You and your time zones," Devon complained.

"I know, and I'm sorry, kid."

"I miss you."

"You too. Call you tomorrow!"

"Bye."

"Bye!" Matt hung up the phone, and Dev sighed.

This would be a long day.

She slid her phone back into her pocket and walked into the school to get a registration form. A plaque hung on a wall on her way in: Midtown School of Science and Technology. Finally. A school for weirdos.
