The water was swirling around me. I was swimming, battling the strong current, when all of a sudden a heard a heart wrenching scream. A scream that filled my soul with terror. A scream that belonged to my boy.
"Ahhhhhhh!" There is was again. The scream.
I swam faster than I ever have before. The harder I pushed myself the harder the current against me became. The screaming continued. I couldn't give up. Sam, the boy I lived with was going to die. I have to keep swimming. I have to keep going. I can't stop. Not now.
The screams were weakening. I was fighting so hard that I could barely feel my body. I felt as if I was running completely on adrenaline. Then all of a sudden the screams stopped. He was gone. I didn't help him. I just let my family die.
I stopped swimming and let the current carry me away down the stream. I didn't know what to do anymore. I let my family die.
"Hey, hey, wake up," I heard. I jolted awake, panting.
"They're gone," I whispered, unable to comprehend anything but the nightmare. "They're gone and they're never coming back."
Laurel tried to calm me. "Shhh, it's okay. I know your family is gone, but you have a new family now.
