I did not know what to do.  I wanted to run, but it felt as though my feet were attached to the ground.  The man kept walking towards me. When he was about two feet away from me, he started to stretch out his hand.  Then I moved.

I growled a low menacing growl and then sprinted off in the opposite direction of Laurel and the puppies.  I didn't know what I was doing or where I was going.  All I knew was that I had to keep my new family safe.

After I ran about 200 feet away I looked back, hoping that the man was following me.   What I saw did not make sense to me.  He was standing in the same place that he was standing i when I took off, and he looked happy.

Then, he slowly turned around until he facing the exact place where Laurel and her puppies were hiding.  He was going to hurt them. All the fear that I had felt for myself earlier vanished instantly.

I sprinted at man as fast as I could.  I was giving out the lowest most menacing growel that I could muster. It felt like I was moving in slow motion. I tensed my muscles ready to spring at the man and go in for the kill, but just before my feet left the ground, something stopped me.  I didn't know what it was; I just couldn't hurt this man.

I stopped as suddenly as I had started the attack and tried to determine why it was that I could move forward, when I suddenly felt a weight on my head.  I jumped slightly , but the weight did not move. As I looked up I realized that the pressure I felt was the old man's hand. My first thought was to run, but something about this person told me that he was okay, and he was not going to hurt me.

He then took his hand away, turned around, and walked back into the cabin.  I didn't even think about what I was doing, I just followed him. In the cabin, he walked over to a cabinet that I had never even noticed existed. He opened it and pulled out a can. He then, opened the can, poured out the contents into a bowl, and set it on the floor.

What ever was in that bowl smelled really good.  I walked over to it, and when the man made no move to stop me I took a bite. It was delicious!

I turned around and bolted back out the door, while the old man jumped back in surprise. "Laurel!" I yelled. "Laurel, it's okay, it's safe and there is food."

"P-Phantom?" Laurel questioned with uncertainty in her voice.

"Yes, it's me it's safe inside and there is food there for you and the puppies.
