The tavern was nice and quiet, just a few were inside, the bar was half filled. Alexander was in his tavern clothes the bar tender kept for him, and he sat at the table across from Peter. Clara and Diana sat across each other. And four lagers were on the table. "It's so nice that Diana left Murphy. I didn't like staying away from you." Clara said looking at her drinking friend. Peter took a swig, and nodded. "Yep we can be a trio again. Unless the big fella here wants to make it a quartet." The gold watcher held up his hand. "No thanks. I have a trio of my own to tend to." Alexander chuckled. Diana smirked. "It's alright. I like having you two. It's nice to have some mortal time once in a while. I'm the lone cleaner of the house, so having you all makes me feel more normal."

"So how's the reading going?" Peter asked. Diana smiled wide. "Pretty good! I am getting used to some bigger words. Hugo is a good teacher. And if I were less drunk I wouldn't describe that he's kinda cute... for his age." Clara giggled quietly. "Oh, come on. Don't tell me you're hot for teacher." She held up a hand shaking her head. "I'm not, I'm not. If anything I'm taking a break with men." Alexander sighed taking big gulp of beer. Peter pat his shoulder. "Don't be too upset big fella. She gave you a kiss from what I've heard. If anything it's a start." Alexander nodded. "True. I just know she will swear off men, once she reads the letter." Clara looked confused. "Letter?" Diana nodded. "Yep. Murphy sent a letter after the breakup. Nobody's read it yet. I figured I would be the first once I learned how to read, but now.... I'm just stalling now." She said laying her head on the table. She knew her limit, and knew anymore, and she'd be heading toward the closest available mortal. "The answer is simple. Assume it's full of bullshit, throw it in the fire, and forget it." The gold man nodded. "Peter is right. I wanted to throw it in the fireplace, but she said no. So she has the right to read it." Clara shrugged. "Well, here's to Diana's choice." The other three repeated. "To Diana's choice."

After the pub visit, Alexander rode home with Diana. They picked the cabriolet with Alexander handling the reigns. Penelope trotted along the cobblestone path and Diana looked up at Alexander. "You're wrong you know." Alexander looked down at his companion. "Hmm?" She kept her eyes on him. "That note doesn't define all the men down here. It's Hell. Different people, different reasons." She pat his leg. "I won't swear off men.... though you probably wish I did." Alexander wanted to counter but he cracked a smile when Diana laughed knowing his nature. "I promise though. No men in the house. At least for a while." That was fine by him. The gold London man wanted to stop the madness, and going back to the way things were before was a start. "Can I show you something when we get home?" Diana nodded. "It's not another wicked surprise is it?" Alexander shook immediately. "No, absolutely not." It had been three months, but the whole "powdery surprise" was still fresh in his brain. "No. It's something.... personal." Diana nodded.

When they got back to the manor, he let her out and put the cabriolet away. While he was busy doing that Diana ran upstairs. It was best to just read the letter and get it over with. She just hoped he didn't use too many big words. She tried to read independently and not have others translate any words for her. She wouldn't want to burden Alexander with any of the awful things he says. Lord knows how he would react. The last thing this house needed was another human body. She bolted through the halls, and wizzed past Thomas as he was holding a flintlock pistol. "Whoa! Diana! Where's the fire?!" She paused to give him a look to let him know to work on his material. "Sorry, couldn't resist." He stuck the gun into a holster on his belt. "So, where are you headed?" She pointed to the room she was still sleeping in. "To read Murphy's note. If you see Alexander try to slow him down." She said heading inside.

Alexander opened the door, but when he did he didn't see Diana anywhere. Where had she gone to? He climbed the stairs, and saw down the hall that his bedroom door was open. He tried to go, but Thomas stood in front of him. "Diana doesn't want you to keep her from reading that note." When he looked up out from the mirror in the room he saw her looking at the note. "Oh no." He wanted to be there for her. He moved Thomas to the side, and no walked in. By the time walked in she was no longer looking at the paper. "What did it say?" He asked bracing for the worst.

"Nothing." She shrugged.

"What?" He marched over to check the letter, and she was right. There was nothing written on the paper. The only thing on the paper was a burnt darkened circle in the middle of the paper. "That's strange indeed." He said flipping the page over showing where it was burned. It was like he left it over a flame, and removed it once it got black. "What does it mean?" She asked him. He bit his lip. "I'm not sure." He thought hard, but came to no conclusion. "Well I'm certain that if this was threatening the boy would've done something by now. It's been three months after all." He said tucking it away. He would gather some information later from some colleagues.

That night Diana was in bed reading a book that Hugo had given her to read called Gullivers Travels. She was torn away when there was a knock on the door. "Uhh, come in." She said putting the book on the bedside table. The original owner of the room walked in. "Oh do you need to use the shower?" She asked. He grinned. "No. I wanted to show you something special." He removed his coat, took off his wig, and reached in his pocket. "You know Hedwig, right?" Diana grinned. Hedwig wasn't somebody that you'd easily forget. "Yeah, he's cool." She then felt her brain grind to a halt. "Wait! You aren't trying to suggest that I date him, right?" Alexander almost burst into laughter. "God, no." He chuckled. She relaxed. "Okay, good." She sighed. Hedwig was alright, but he was also.... a lot.

"The reason I asked is because he let me borrow this." He held a simple gold ring. "I wanted to show you something, and I want you to see it because I trust you." He fidgeted for a minute. "Err turn around, and close your eyes." She stood up and turned around keeping her hands over her eyes. She hoped this wasn't a prank or anything, then again, Alexander seemed like a practical man. Still he never told her to close her eyes.

"Alright. You can turn around and open your eyes now."

When she did so, she was at first confused but there was no denying it. The man before her looked just like him. He had striking red hair, that curled off into different directions, pale alabaster skin, and a little line of freckles that passed from one cheek to the other. He had dark coco brown eyes, that looked down at her nervously. Diana didn't want to admit it, but he was simply beautiful. "It's okay.... It's me." He said softly. He removed his hat as she slowly smiled. "I always felt deep down you were a red head." He chuckled at her attempt to ease him. She reached up caressing his cheeks as he shuddered feeling her hands resting on his skin. His hands laid over hers. The smile faded as she studied every detail of his face. "This is what you looked like when you died?" He nodded. He took a step back. "So.... Do I satisfy?" Diana felt herself become rosy cheeked. "Yes, yes you do." He then turned red himself, sparking up those freckles that were splashed across his face.

"I bet the twins went insane seeing you this way." She laughed. He shook his head. "No, no. This is the first time I've done this. The only person that's seen me this way is Hugo. Hedwig and Haytham have seen me, but I was just a toddler at the time." He looked down at her. "Still I'm glad you were the first one here seeing me like this after my death." He pulled Diana in for a hug, and she leaned in. He then pulled the ring off, and she felt his skin shift back to the way it was before. "Well, I should head off to bed."

He reached for the door, but felt two dainty arms wrap around his waist. Before he could look behind himself. "I wouldn't mind it if.... you stayed here for the night." His brain raced. They had slept on a couch together, but he never imagined her asking to sleep with him. "Was my human form really that alluring?" He laughed. She looked down. "If I'm honest. I was going to ask you before you even did that." She scratched the back of her head. At this Alexander fanned his face bashfully with a grin on his face. "I swear you're going to be the death of me, missy." He chuckled climbing in.
