SELF STORAGE

I'm going into 'Self Storage'

For I really need a rest.

This year has been so difficult,

it hasn't been the best.

I hope there'll be a window,

I'd like a lovely view.

I think I'll take my knitting -

It'll give me something to do.

I'll take a comfy cushion,

To sit upon the shelf.

Perhaps I'll dress in reds and greens

just like the Christmas Elf.

I'll take with me some ginger cake

and some bottles of ginger wine.

Please don't worry about me,

I'm sure I will be fine!

Now it's time to say goodbye

Please don't shed a tear.

I'll be home again for Christmas

And the beginning of the New Year!

At least that's what I'm wishing for,

the way I want it to be...

But what if nobody misses me

And they throw away the key?

'Self Storage' businesses in the UK are buildings with lots of units where people can take their goods to be stored for any length of time.  We used one when we had our ground floor flat renovated and our possessions were stored there for three weeks.  I have always chuckled when I see these units and I have always thought it could be a place where we store 'ourselves' so I have written this poem accordingly.  I hope it makes you chuckle too!

We had to buy our own padlock/lock to secure the unit and keep the key safe.
