"Ruby stop!"

A girl with short, dirty-blonde hair continued to teleport all around, from one place to the other. An older girl with the same colour hair but longer than the younger girl's stood in the middle of their living room, hands on knees as she panted, trying to regain her breath from all the running around she had been doing.
"But it's fun Kate!" Ruby continued to teleport over and over, taunting her older cousin.

"You need to stop or you can really hurt yourself!" Kate started jumping from corner to corner, trying to catch her energetic cousin as she teleported, this continued over and over until Ruby started to become slower and slower. Pants could be heard come from the 10 year old girl, all the teleporting was clawing at her energy.

After what seemed like forever, Kate managed to get hold of the teleporting girl, laying her down with her head sat on her knees.
"I told you to stop Ruby, now you're all tired out..." she ran her fingers through her hair, Kate's slightly sharp nails dragging against her scalp without hurting Ruby in any way.
"But why? I..I thought we could use our powers as much as we wanted?"

"We might have powers, but even they can only reach a certain level before it starts to tire us out, or even worst, kill us if not careful dear." Ruby nodded in understanding. Kate had gone over this many times with her, but only just getting her powers, she got too excited and just drained herself of energy.

Powers can vary from person to person, some are big and flashy, some are more subtle. Either way, using it way too much can really damage you, but kids being kids, they don't understand until they test the limits themselves.
"What happens if I use my power too much Kate?"
"Well, first you'll get really exhausted, but, if you continue to use your power, you will start to damage your body. You can tear your muscles, break your bones, rip your organs apart, for you, if you continue then your body will start to disintegrate, feeling like you're being ripped apart and being burned alive at the same time."

Kate felt someone cling on to her sholder tightly, bring her back out of her ramble. Her mother looked down at her with a slight angry look, slowly shaking her head. Moving her glance back at Ruby, the young girl looked at her, fear laced in her eyes.
"I-I-m sorry! I didn't mean to scare you swee-"
"What...what would happen if you overuse your power Kate?" She started to shake a bit, the image of what might happen to her now imprinted into her mind.

"Well, like I said before. When I shape-shift into other animals, it drains my energy, the bigger and stronger the animal, the more my energy is drained. If I continue the I would start breaking my bones as I transform and tear my muscles apart..."

The 14 year old girl felt a soft hand grab hers, her mother was now beside her with a look of sorrow.

"Please mum, I don't want her to die!"

"T-there's nothing we can do! She overused her power and now...now she's dying.."

Kate shook her head, trying to get that memory out of her mind.

"Well be fine...you'll be fine Ruby, don't worry..."

Ruby smiled a little, her eyes slowly closing.

"Take her to bed, she's had enough today..." Kate's mother told her. Kate nodded and picked the girl up, making her way to Ruby's bedroom.

"Nothing will happen, I swear..."
