Maddie's P.O.V.

I heard faint noises coming from the room Max went in. Maybe he was the lucky winner? The wall suddenly broke and I saw Max-I mean Mr. Tuxedo Lotus fighting a monster. He saw me staring. He looked panicked.

"RUN!" He yelled. I don't know what to do...

"WHY AREN'T YOU RUNNING?!?!"

"Soul Splicer version 1!" another guy said, throwing a dagger at me. It barely missed. I ran. That's all I can do, anyways... I can't fight... I can't help... I can't do anything... anything but run. I ran as far away as my legs could take me before falling, which was somewhat away from the battle. I looked around, searching for either a good place to hide or to get a weapon to fight with. Nothing... nothing but my pendant.

"You're magical," I began talking to the necklace. "Maybe you could help me to help Max!"

Nothing happened...

"Why?!" I asked it, having a breakdown. I can't help it. "Why are you so useless?! Why am I so useless?!?!" I tried to rip my necklace off, but it wouldn't break!

"Why?" I asked again. "Why can't I help? Why have I appeared in his life, become his best friend, and help him when he's down, but yet am useless when it comes to these circumstances? Why am I... powerless... to protect him...?"
