Everything happens for a reason,
But I could not fathom why you were chosen,
Of all humans and creatures alive,
Death took your life.

You were the brightest star in the darkest night,
The ray of light that shone so bright,
No other man could replace your love,
No other man like you had the peace of a dove.

I cherish you so much,
'Cause among thorns, you were the lily in the bunch,
You were the only one who for me would take the blame,
The only one who could put out the embers of an angry flame.

If I had known death would come seeking,
Like an unwelcome visitor knocking,
Perhaps I would have done my best,
That you weren't put so soon to rest.

I hoped you'll never go away,
Like you never led me astray,
You're gone,
Its work, death has done,

All I can hope for,
Now that you're no more,
Is that you rest,
On your saviours breast.
