A/N: this is kinda a weak but fun theory I had just thought of.

What if the ruined dragon or more known as the Lord of Lightning is not a dragon from the mario universe.

The first thing is to compare him to other dragons in the mario universe. The majority of dragons in the mario universe come off as being more cartoon-ish and goofy looking. Like Gobblegut.

The Lord of Lightning looks more realistic and intimidating Than much of the other ones. So the only question is that where did the Lord of Lightning come from.

Well, I believe after the events of Super Mario Galaxy 2, Bowser (possibly along with kamek) used some sort of dark magic to create a portal to another universe. Not just any universe.....

The Dark Souls Universe.

Now hear me out, the Lord of Lightning bares a strange resembles to some of the dragons in the dark souls series and he does appear to show some sighs of intelligence.

Bowser might have created a portal to the dark souls universe so he could get control of a dragon. While at the same time, he didn't know what universe it was. He probably just wanted a dragon. He saw them as Powerful beasts and could be a great ally.

Bowser would use the crown seen on the dragons head during super mario odyssey as a way of controlling the dragon. After that, bowser would use the Lord of Lightning as one of his allies to keep mario distracted while bowser was getting things ready for his and peaches wedding.

But that's just me. Do you think the Lord of Lightning is from another universe or has he been in the mario world all this time.
