Hi.

Such simple word doesn't seem to mean so much.

Apparently, it does.

It saved my life.

I was working on a meat production company. It was night, nearing the end of our shift. I went to the meat freezer to check on the meat. Unfortunately, I was locked in. I went to the door and tried to scream for help. But no one could hear me. My voice was near inaudible outside of the freezer. Also, it was the end of their shift so no one would pass by.

I was stranded there for a long time. When I was in the brink of death, the door opened and there stood the security guard. I was shocked, of course. When I asked him how he knew I was here, he just said, "You were the only one who said 'hi' to me in the morning when everyone ignored me. You were the only one who said 'goodbye' to me when you leave. When I never heard your 'goodbye', I assumed the worst. I tried finding you and I ended up here."

My eyes stung. "Thank you," I whispered.

He smiled. "No, thank YOU."
