Meet Ilmenite version 1 and 2!

Ilmenite 1 was created mostly to protect Dawn (planet) against Homeworld, but it was also just Xilor and Sam being Xilor and Sam: they are quite lovey dovey. Emerald's sheer power and strength alongside Star's future vision and rather impressive ice powers creates the most powerful two-gem fusion on Dawn.

To create Emerald's 'breaking point' in this AU, during a battle, Emerald's gem gets chipped. He becomes obsessed with Dawn and being Ilmenite in order to keep the planet safe (or to himself), and chipped Emerald and Star become Ilmenite 2.

Emerald's obsession and Star's anxiety creates a very paranoid fusion, who begins thinking that all the other gems on Dawn could be spies for Homeworld, and begins attacking them. Basically, rogue, very powerful fusion. Ilmenite 2's appearance resembles Star's ice powers being out of control, which would only happen under stress or other strong negative emotions.
