When dreams become more vivid than ever

When thoughts so blur get woven together

When things break into ambiguous banters

When minds feel like slumbering forever

***

The morning dew tickles the small puddle, drop by drop down to merge in with the musky water of last night's rain. The sound of each drip vibrates in the air, spreading and fading like forgotten piece of a faraway dream.

The ticking of the clock hasn't stopped, even strikes clash with the equally rhythmic dripping sound.

They could have been perfectly compatible, yet now they overwrite over each other simply due to a misstep. With one starting off a note faster than the other, it's understandable how the two sounds can never be in sync.

Or perhaps they are meant to be separated from the beginning. When you hear the clock, the puddle feels too far away to notice. And when you listen to the puddle, the clock seems to melt away.

And when you finally remember how each sound is compared to the other, you find out that one strives forward far too fast, while the other takes a more relaxed rhythm. It is never about the wrong timing; the mere tempo varies between the two sounds.

What defines them, also divides them.

Rain.

Loud, to the point of piercing.

Harsh, unforgiving bullets shooting down from the sky, hitting everything and sparing nobody in their paths.

Yet they are merciful in a way,  how they wash away all the differences, sins and virtues alike, to leave behind nothing but the core form.

To help one start over. Anew.

Time.

Soulless, to the point of relentless.

Steady, constant ticking working days and nights, morphing everyone and waiting for no one in its course.

Yet it is beautiful in a way, how it changes its subjects, good and bad sides alike, to give each an ultimately original self.

To help one keep going. Evolving.

Two notions, strangely paralleled, sync with their own chime, rhyme with their own pace. Faced with the same and different lieges, linked by the same and different minds.

They may neither be tangible nor correlative, but could be deemed perceptible and connected.

Always present, always side by side.

Always together.

Whether they, or anyone, might be aware of it or not.
