CASPER

Humans are strange. One day they smell of bacon and then the next they're like a walking flower. But they're great too!! They give you hugs and food, they take you everywhere they go and they play games with you!!

When I came into the world I had no idea about anything. One day the humans put me in a box with my two sisters and we drove off.
Then I met three more humans who took me in. They named me Casper. Apparently they didn't like 'Jellybean'.
The smallest one seemed nice. Smelled nice too. I was shy but I warmed up to her and her parents.
We'd play together everyday. Id wake her up in the morning. I would ride with her in the car when she goes to school and wait for her when we pick her up. She would feed me bits of her food when I sat under the table.

But now, the four of us were far away from home and in this nice dog friendly restaurant. There were other dogs too but I was bored. Then I heard voices come up and I saw two more human women walk to us. They had a dog too! And he was big. Bree said he was a mix of a Poodle and a Golden retriever.

"Hi! I'm Casper!" I said excitedly, tail wagging wildly.

"Names Houston," the big dog replied.

Since then, we grew up with the girls. We would visit each other whenever we could. Sometimes we got to stay in each other's place over night!!

I knew we were the best of friends.

Present

Houston wasn't doing so good the last few weeks so we came to him.

"Hey Houst!!" I greeted happily.

"Hey Cas..." he replied tiredly. He was laying in bed when he's usually be up and about.

"Hey what's wrong? Don't you want to play?"

"I can't play anymore Cas..."

"Why?"

"Because...I'm leaving soon,"

"Where are you going?" I asked confusedly.

"Casper, there will be a day when I won't be here when you come," he explained.

"Will you be back?" I asked hopefully.

"I'm not sure...I'm just glad that you're here,"
I didn't understand what was going on. Bree was crying for some reason so I licked her tears away. She even went to spend some time in her friend's room and I followed after her.
We spent a few hours there before it was time to leave. I said goodbye.

I just didn't know it meant forever...

Days later

Bree was at school and mom was going out of town so she left me at Houston's place.

"Hey Houst!!" I called out but heard no reply. I sniffed the air smelling something sad and sour. I followed it to Houston's empty bed. His collar and leash were here, and so were all his toys. But no sign of him.
I didn't understand, so I curled up in his bed hopping it would annoy him an make him come out.
By the time Bree and her mom came to pick me up, Houston wasn't anywhere.

We went there a lot after he went missing. Day after day after day, there was no sign of him. They were sad days.

But I knew we were always going to be Best Furiends Furever, We'll always be brothers.

***UPDATE***

January 8, 2019,

At midnight, Houston passed away. Rest your furry, bread loving, lovable soul Houston. We'll all miss you here on earth while you run freely in doggy heaven...

I've known Houston just as long as I knew Kait. I would always beg my parents to go to her place in Reno. But then her family moved here to CA!!
We had a lot of sleepovers and hangouts.
But as we entered Highschool, a lot of things changed.
We rarely talk or see each other anymore even when we got to each others places.

One of the major changes was her dog Houston, ate the are of 8, has cancer. He's still here but barely hanging by a thread. But we all know he'll be put down soon.
We went to their place last night so Casper could say goodbye to him a final time...
