Harold Smith is an affluent insidious man, who was well-known for his atrocious and callous nature. He never embraced any values in life and was a self-indulgent individual. Harold lost his wife at the age of 40, in the interim of childbearing. The news of his wife's and child's death ushered a big blow to his heart and thus lead him to a life of the wicked as he started doing bad things in the name of The Head of the village. His intentions were only to make more money and to become richer day after day as if the money could fill the hole in his heart.

During the fall when the weather is getting colder, many villagers would catch the cold and Harold is one of them. He goes in quest of an apothecary for his medical care least his cold gets worse and kills him. Even after getting treated by many of them, his ailment was not cured and he grew angry and told his servants to look for an apothecary that could cure him or he would kill them. That is when he heard of the name Wanda and so finally he goes in search of Wanda's house to meet her.

Catching a glimpse of her looks Harold forgets all the miseries in his life. He straight off falls in love with Wanda and without any hemming and hawing, he asked "Wanda, I'm deeply in love with you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?"

Wanda was really traumatized by Harold's proposal, at once she replied "I'm sorry Mr. Harold. I'm already in love with another man and we're going to be married soon. But I would still like to help you to cure your sickness. Can I get to know more about our ailment so it would help me to treat you?"

Harold being a village headman, was never happy to hear a no from anybody. He was maddened by Wanda's refusal. This denial shook things up in Wanda's life. Harold then proceed by explaining about his illness. Wanda as usual made the natural remedy for him and gave instructions on how to take the medicines.

"Thank you for helping me with this remedy, I hope you will give more thought about you and me being married. I really did fall in love with you at first sight and I want you to be my lawfully wedded wife." said Harold.

"It's my duty to help those in need of my expertise, Sir there is no need for much gratitude. And I am already betrothed Mister, I do hope you will find yourself another woman to be your wife." replied Wanda. Harold was very upset by Wanda's response. The head walked away very determined to marry her no matter what it would take in order to make it happen.

Harold started following Wanda from that day on as he was desperately trying to make Wanda fall for him. However, Wanda knew her heart and with John by her side she was very adamant about refusing Herold's marriage proposal as her heart has always and will always belong to someone else and has no other thoughts left for others.

The Head even went to see Wanda's family and tried hard to bribe them for her hand in marriage "I am here to ask for your daughter's hand in marriage," said Harold,

"I promise to give you all the money you ask for if this marriage was to go on, I would make you very close to me and you and your family will be rich." Harold tried very hard to bribe the parents for their daughter, but the parents were not going against their daughter's will.

"We think you know by now that our daughter is marrying another man whom she loves very much," replied Wanda's family,

"and we would never go against what makes our daughter happy."

Wanda was starting to feel very frightened of Harold because he was threatening her and he had even said to her "If you will not marry me, I will turn your life into hell. I will kill your lover and your family and make you watch as they die." Harold was determined to do as he said if she did not agree to marry him. He loved her very much and wasn't going to give up so easily turning love into something twisted as he was consumed by the need to own her.
