SUMMARY

Alistair Graveswood has a gift, like his sister, mother and other members of his family.

He can see the dead.

It... isn't a gift he enjoys.

Sure, the ghost animals are cute, but the spirits of dead people are what Alistair hates about his gift. He hates the constant voices of the dead shrieking in his ears, demanding attention every second of the day. He hates how he can't go past the cemetery or hospital because of the overwhelming presence of death. He hates how he can't even enjoy his sleep, not when he wakes up screaming fifteen minutes later from nightmares of ghosts wailing and screeching in his sleep. He hates it.

So when his and his sister's "gifts" attracted the attention of a man called Dr. Brenner, Alistair had gladly shoved his abilities down and ignored the spirts as best he could, never even telling his friends; if he could, he would have pretended he had no abilities at all.

That was, until his best friend Will Byers disappeared and, desperate to find Will and not endure the terrible reality he could wake up and see Will's ghost staring at him, unable to help or even hug him, Alistair along with the rest of his friends—Mike, Lucas and Dustin—went to search for Will and ended up finding a girl with telekinetic abilities—El—and learn that alternate dimensions full of monsters existed, the Upside Down, that Will was trapped in there. That when the monster that took his best friend, the Demogorgon, came, Alistair had used a power he didn't even know he had against it, that scared him in a way seeing ghosts never did, but brought him his new companion—an undead raven he named Hugin—and that as much as it scared him, Alistair explored it and started to, maybe, accept his gift.

That when Will was possessed by a creature called the Mind Flayer, the ghosts had actually tried to help and Alistair desperate to help his best friend and make his useless and traumatising gift help Will, to exorcise the son of a bitch out of him. Even if the new shit with the Upside Down brought in the new girls—Max and Cami—into that orbit and had them see he and his sister use their powers, be let on all of those secrets.

Thankfully, Will was all right, the thing possessing him was exorcised and killed when El closed the gate, meaning Hawkins was finally safe from the horrors of the Upside Down.

Meaning that the ghost of Barb Holland, Nancy's friend and his sister's Chemistry partner, could finally rest.

And that, thanks to a little and very tense family reunion, Alistair and his sister can finally talk to their family and train their powers properly, to control and use them outside of traumatising, near-death experiences.

(That maybe Alistair can be less scared of his powers, of the nightmares, of the terrifying potential he could do)

Fast-forward to 1985. He and Rowan are back in Hawkins, after spending a month with their grandmother and grandfather, aunts, uncles and cousins in the family mansion in Lynn, Massachusetts, training their abilities with their family. They both have more control and more ease over using their respective abilities, and with the family's support, Alistair starts to begin seeing his powers as the gifts his family says they were blessed with instead of seeing them as the visible pain and heartbreak of the past ten years, and even discovered some new abilities, and now feeling less scared of seeing and raising the dead and what he could potentially do and fully accept and enjoy the gift he had hated for years; he's even sleeping a little bit better, though coffee has become his one true love now.

(even though the nightmares and ghosts would always scare him, that he would always feel uncomfortable in places of death)

But he's happier now, happier than he can remember being. Even when he and Cami broke up. But that was fine, and besides, they worked better as friends anyway.

And summer's now here. His sister, Rowan, has scored a job at the records store in downtown—she and her best friend, Eddie, refused to work in the records shop at the new Starcourt Mall for the reasons that the one downtown was more "authentic" and "didn't scream conformity"—that works with her internship at Pennhurst Asylum, his aunt's psychic con has never been more profitable, and Alistair is spending time with his friends, feeling like the kid he was two years ago, before the monsters and evil dimensions, albeit with the exception that his friends now know of his and his sister's abilities and he and Rowan can now use their abilities among those who know without having to worry about Brenner taking them or their family.

That he feels this is going to be the best summer he's ever had for a long, long time. A summer, in Alistair's opinion, is well-deserved after all the horror, pain and fear he, his friends and family have been through.

That is, until Alistair begins seeing terrifying visions in his nightmares and the ghosts are going insane with panic and trying to tell him something in their cryptic riddles like they did six months ago. Until Will says that he is feeling the Mind Flayer again, and El, Cami and Max say there is something wrong with Max's stepbrother Billy and that he has done something to a girl named Heather, and Alistair along with the Party realise that while El may have closed the gate, the Mind Flayer that is in their world isn't as dead as Alistair had hoped it was, and is now seeking out new hosts.

That he and his friends will have to fight the monster that had possessed Will again, and the people it has Flayed, and defeat it for good, that Alistair will have to use his powers again and even try to attempt to use them to banish the Mind Flayer from their world once and for all.

And, maybe, confess to Will that he had been (unknowingly, now very much knowingly, thank you Cami and Rowan) crushing on him for the past two years.

Or—

In which Alistair fights the monster that possessed his best friend alongside his friends, while trying to confess his feelings for said friend.

AHHH HELLO EVERYONE!!!

Here it is at last: My son Alistair's fic!!! I loved writing Alistair and his half of the story in Thunderstruck and I'm literally so excited to write this second half of his story as a solo book, you won't BELIEVE it, along with developing certain feelings between him and Will... 👀

I have very big plans for Alistair this season and showing his character more, along with Hugin! I love that raven, so I'm literally SO excited to write him and his and Alistair's bond further here! Also, because s3 is the "lighter" season, this will have its comedic notes (but also some horror stuff, given it's still Stranger Things and Alistair sees ghosts and raises dead animals) and some twists.. *grins wickedly*
