"A lot of people think that the Marie-Antoinette Syndrome is when someone's hair suddenly turns white overnight. But that's really a common misconception." Christopher explained as I stared at my reflection, still shocked.

"In reality, your hair would have started turning white ages ago. Have you never noticed any white strands of hair?" I shook my head.

"What are you guys talking about?" Vanessa asked as she walked into the room with a tray of food. So that's where she went.

"My hair." I said while Christopher said "The Marie-Antoinette Syndrome" at the same time.

"If it helps, I noticed a lot of white hair when I was braiding your hair, Amelia." Vanessa said as she sat back in her seat and pulled out a table from the side, placing it in front of me. Christopher closed the mirror so that Vanessa could put the tray of food onto the table. "I didn't say anything because I thought you knew."

I shook my head. I never really paid attention to my hair.

"So basically, your normal coloured hair falls out and white hair grows in its place. Then at one point, all the hairs that are growing is white and when the rest of your previous coloured hair falls out, you're just left with the white hair." Christopher continued his explanation. I smoothed some hair over my shoulder and stared at it. Well my hair did get a little shorter.

"Don't worry, Amelia. You're still very pretty." Vanessa said as she got out a spoon. That really wasn't what I was thinking about or worried about, but thanks.

"Here." Vanessa held a spoonful of food in front of my mouth. I jolted backwards.

"I can eat myself." I mumbled quietly, trying to take the spoon from her.

She retracted her arm, holding the spoon away from me. "Nada. Not happening. You are not to use your arm until I say so."

"But -"

"No buts. Now open up." Vanessa said, her tone made it clear that it was the end of the conversation. I grumbled under my breath and opened my mouth with great reluctance. The entire feeding process was excruciatingly slow for me and Christopher sat at the side grinning with amusement the entire time. I glared at him as I finished.

"Don't you have somewhere to be?" I grumbled under my breath, loud enough that they could hear me.

"Not really. I'm just here helping out with my Dad and getting some experience since I want to be a doctor." Christopher replied with a shrug. A doctor huh?

"Then go help out." I said, shooting him a glare. If you're helping then you should be helping. Not here.

He gave me a strange look and an amused grin. "I am on a break right now."

I started hissing at him. It wasn't that I didn't want him in here but him being in here made me feel uncomfortable. Christopher raised an eyebrow and jumped out of his chair. "Okay, okay. I don't want a patient to go into cardiac arrest because of me. Especially when I want to be saving lives."

He picked up the empty tray, "I'll send this back to the cafeteria while I'm at it."

"Oh you don't have to." Vanessa said, standing up to take the tray back.

Christopher waved her off. "It's fine, I'm heading there to get something to eat myself anyways. See you guys around!" He turned and made his way to the door.

I hmphed as he finally left the room and turned to look at Vanessa who was looking at me with an amused expression on her face.

"What?" I asked.

"It's nothing." She said, her smile widening slightly before looking away. Oh it's definitely not nothing.

"How's Hugh?" I asked, leaning back.

Vanessa's expression turned grim. "Arm broken in three places, leg broken in two, a slight concussion and multiple whip lashes all over his body."

I grimaced and flinched. This was all my fault.

"But don't worry." Vanessa said as she patted my hand. "He's still alive and that's all that matters right now. As long as he is alive, his wounds will heal with time."

I nodded. But it was still my fault that he got into this mess in the first place.

A knock sounded at the door. "Come in!" Vanessa called, turning to the entrance to see who it was. "Oh hey, how was the questioning?"

Kyle walked into view. He waved at me and I nodded in response. "They denied pretty much everything. Except one kid who I think was new to the syndicate. Poor kid. I think he's traumatized by now."

I frowned. The boy I had dealt a blow to the head to. Was he traumatized by the whole experience or by just what I did to him?

"As for punishment, they are to stay in isolation for one month, return to training camps for two months and are stripped of their syndicate status during that time. After that month is done they will have to start again from the bottom of the ranking system and they will be treated like a new syndicate as well. They're still discussing punishments. I left early."

I nodded.

"Why did you leave early?" Vanessa asked.

"Because the police department asked me to bring Amelia there." Kyle said, looking at me. I raised an eyebrow. What do they need me for? I was actually trying to avoid going to the police department but I suppose I don't really have a choice if they asked for me.

"No. Amelia is not allowed to leave the hospital until her wounds heal." Vanessa said, standing up in a protective stance.

"I'll be fine, Vanessa." I said.

"I'll push her there in a wheelchair. She'll be fine. She won't be physically exerting herself." Kyle reasoned.

Vanessa frowned, "Fine but I'll be coming with you guys."

Kyle nodded, "That works with me too. I'll just go grab a wheelchair."

I had never been in a wheelchair before so the thought of being able to sit in one sort of excited me. Vanessa and Kyle helped me down into the chair and my fingers immediately started to fiddle with the buttons on the handles. What does this do? I pressed one and the chair jolted forwards. I jumped slightly in surprised. I pressed down on another button and jolted backwards.

"Alright, I'm going to disable those controls before you hurt yourself and Vanessa has my head." Kyle said, pressing down something with a click behind me. I suppressed a pout as we rolled out of my room and down the hallways of the hospital.

It didn't take too long for us to reach the local police department. "Who asked for me?" I asked Kyle as we approached the building.

"Apparently one of the police officers that worked there." Kyle said. Vanessa walked a little faster and opened the door for us.

"Thank you." Kyle said as we walked in. Kyle pushed me towards the front desk, raising an arm to wave at the officer at the desk. The officer recognized Kyle and ran into one of the back rooms. A loud thud was heard moments later. I flinched slightly.

The doors slammed open and the one person I've been dreading to meet walked out.

"Amelia!"

"Hi... Dad." I greeted with an indifferent expression on my face.

Dad sighed over-dramatically, "Oh, Amelia, my daughter! I was so worried!! You disappeared and I couldn't find you anywhere!"

I raised my head and looked him in the eye. "Daughter? I'm not your daughter. Not after everything you've done to me. I haven't been your daughter since a long time ago."

I watched as shock plastered onto his face before it turned red with rage. "Why you..." He breathed out. His breath still stank with the strong smell of alcohol. I can't believe he goes to work like this.

"You little!" He yelled, raising an arm before bringing it down to strike me. I didn't budge. Both Vanessa and Kyle intercepted his arm.

"You will never lay a hand on Amelia ever again." Vanessa said as she let go of his arm, allowing Kyle to twist my dad... Logan Walker, onto his back and pressed him onto the ground.

As I watched the other officers rushing towards Kyle and Mr. Walker, I felt a weight being lifted off my shoulders.

I am no longer Amelia Walker. I am now just Amelia. True freedom. My life can truly restart now.
