How lovely is the silence of growing things
See them grow, unfurl and unfold
Push through mud, through sand, push through all this dirt and land
Feel the sun, reach the air
Watch it stretch, watch it bend
Watch it wither, watch it die
All upon a single vine.
How lovely is the soil
The smell of decay among the flowers
Remove your shoes, your socks, leave them in a pile
Sink your toes into the cool dark earth
Make them home among the worms and moles
Feel the history in between your toes
How lovely is the deep dark earth
Take off your skin, your muscles
Lose your ligaments, your tendons, the memories that cling to your skin
Sink your bones beneath the surface
Past the remains of yesterday
May your feet finally know rest
How lovely the smell of death.
