Y/N POV

After what happened in the cafeteria, we all went to our history class with Dr. Oobleck.

Currently said doctor is zooming around the class as everyone else is trying to keep up to speed.

A/N: Pun fully intended!

He's been hitting the liquid adrenaline pretty hard it seems. I wonder what would happen if he had a crash? Would he fall asleep immediately or go incredibly slow?

I shake out of my irrelevant thoughts and focus back on Oobleck.

Oobleck: Yes! Yes, prior to the Faunus Rights Revolution, more popularly known as the Faunus War, humankind was quite, quite adamant about centralizing Faunus population in Menagerie.

He says as he zooms to a map on the board and points directly at Menagerie while drinking even more coffee.

Oobleck: Now! While this must feel like ancient history to many of you, it is imperative to remember that these are relatively recent events! Why, the repercussions of the uprising can still be seen to this day!

Yeah, I mean you still have people screwing the shit outta faunus everywhere and the White Fang are turning hostile because of it.

Oobleck: Now! Have any among you been subjugated or discriminated because of your Faunus heritage?

Some students raise their hands. I look to see Velvet hesitant but she also raises her hand.

It's mostly all because of those rich bastards in Atlas, mainly the Schnee family, they've been one of the causes of this shit.

It sickens me knowing that shit happens but you can't do jack about it. At least after a heist, the Schnee faunus workers got a neat little bonus to help them out.

Oobleck: Dreadful, simply dreadful! Remember, students, it is precisely this kind of ignorance that breeds violence! I mean, I mean, I mean just look at what happened to White Fang!

The White Fang used to be good people. But ever since a new leader stepped up, they've radicalized and have become terrorist than activists.

Oobleck: Now, which one of you young scholars can tell me what many theorize to be the turning point in the third year of the War?

Weiss raises her hand as Oobleck calls on her.

Weiss: The battle at Fort Castle!

Oobleck: Precisely! And, who can tell me the advantage the Faunus had over General Lagune's forces?

From behind me, I hear Jaune yell out. I turn around and see Jaune looking around and Cardin looking at him smugly. Doesn't take a genius to figure out what happened.

Oobleck: Mr. Arc! Finally contributing to class! This is excellent! Excellent! What is the answer?

Not again...Jaune can't seem to catch a break when Cardin's around.

Jaune: Uhhhh... The answer... The advantage... that the Faunus... had over that guy's stuff...

I see him staring at something and look over to see Pyrrha trying to signal him the answer by cupping her hands around her eyes.

Jaune: Uhh... Binoculars!

Oumdamnit Jaune...

The entire class besides RWBY, JNPR, and me start laughing at him as he starts to slide down his chair in embarrassment.

Oobleck: Very funny, Mr. Arc! Cardin! Perhaps you would care to share your thoughts on the subject!

Cardin stops laughing and looks at Oobleck.

Cardin: Well, I know it's a lot easier to train an animal than a soldier.

Oh you piece of shit, you don't learn do you?

Pyrrha: You're not the most open-minded of individuals, are you, Cardin?

She says as she glares at Cardin, him doing the same.

Cardin: What? You got a problem?

Pyrrha: No, I have the answer! It's night vision. Many Faunus are known to have nearly-perfect sight in the dark.

Blake: General Lagune was inexperienced, and made the mistake of trying to ambush the Faunus in their sleep. His massive army was outmatched, and the general was captured.

She then looked over to Cardin and gave him a cold glare.

Blake: Perhaps if he'd paid attention in class, he wouldn't have been remembered as such a failure.

He stands up aggressively as he clenches his fist.

Oh bet, give me a reason!

I also stand, loosening my tie. I give Cardin a glare that could kill him if it could.

Me: Donacdum Cardin!

Cardin: Or what?!

Me: Do you not remember what happened last time dumbass?!

Oobleck: Mr. Winchester! Mr. L/N! That's enough! Please take your seats and Mr. L/N please use that language anywhere but here, thank you.

Me: Yes doctor...

Oobleck: Mr. Winchester, You and Mr. Arc can both see me after class for additional readings.

I hear Jaune groaning. Bad luck man...

Oobleck: Now! Moving on!

After the lesson is done everyone leaves except Pyrrha. She says that she'll wait for Jaune, her team walks away but I go up to her.

Me: Hey Pyrrha.

She turns to me surprised by my sudden appearance.

Pyrrha: Oh Y/N! Did you need something?

Me: If you need help with Jaune, I'd be happy to help.

Pyrrha: Huh? Why's that?

Me: I've been in his shoes before I could help you help him if it comes to it.

Pyrrha: That would be appreciated, thanks Y/N.

Me: No problem. But fair warning, sometimes pride is too hard to swallow without a push.

She looks at me confused, I was going to explain but my scroll started ringing.

I pulled it out of my pocket to see who it is, to see the contact as "Your Boss" it's not hard to put two and two together.

Me: Umm Shit! Sorry Pyrrha, I gotta take this.

She waves me off as I go somewhere private.

3rd POV

You walk to an empty spot in the courtyard and answer the call.

Y/N: What do you want Roman?

The caller, Roman, chuckles slightly.

Roman: Ah! Houston! My friend! How are you?

You growl lowly. Unknown to you, Blake is near your spot in the courtyard.

Blake: I've been looking for Cardin for forever. Where the hell is he?

Y/N: Don't call me that, we ain't friends!

Blake hears you whisper angrily. She looks past the corner she's at and sees you on your scroll.

Blake: Y/N? What's he up to?

Back to your call Roman replies unenthusiastically.

Roman: Whatever. Are you still at Beacon? I had one of my White Fang guys drop you off there. I know those happy little huntsman and huntresses would've helped you. Especially after our official introduction.

Y/N: No I'm not and fuck you for that as well.

Roman: Well no matter. But as you can probably tell, this isn't a social call. I have a job for you Houston.

Y/N: (Thoughts obviously) Shit...but I guess it was inevitable. I have to take this or I can kiss my freedom goodbye. But either way I'm risking my freedom...

You sigh and slide down the wall next to you.

Y/N: What's the job?

Meanwhile back with Blake, she's still eavesdropping on you and quietly asked herself:

Blake: Job? It's normal to have another job, but he sounds so angry about this...

Roman: It's just a simple dust store smash and grab at night. It's usually closed around that time but it is alarmed, but knowing you, you could probably find a way around that.

Y/N: Do you want me to empty the store or what?

Blake: Empty the store?

Roman: Yeah, don't worry about transporting the goods. Just throw the loot into a dumpster in the back and I'll have my guys pick it up.

Y/N: Got it. Anything else?

Roman: One more thing. Don't get caught again, you aren't any good to me inside a jail cell. Got that Houston?

Y/N: Remember I got arrested the first time cus of you? It won't happen again if you don't rat.

Roman: I have no idea what you're talking about kid.

Y/N: Oumdamnit Roman screw you!

Y/N: Yeah right...

You hang up and walk the opposite direction of Blake. She hides behind the corner with wide eyes.

Blake: Y/N has been arrested before? And by the sound of it, it sounds like he'll be doing something that could get him arrested again... maybe I should keep quiet about this till I have more evidence...

Y/N POV

It's almost night and I've been prepping for the job since Roman called. I got everything, my piece, a couple of mags, and my suit on under my leather jacket. Not taking the Commando for this one, not really gonna be needed for a job like this.

I hear the door to the roof open and I quickly hide my heist equipment. At this point I already know who to expect, so imagine my surprise when I saw it was Jaune and Pyrrha.

I hid while they started conversing with each other.

Jaune: Pyrrha, I know I'm going through a hard time right now, but I'm not that depressed...

Pyrrha: N-no! That's not why I brought you up here!

She stops screaming finally. Oum Jaune she wasn't telling you to kill yourself jeez.

Pyrrha: Jaune, I know you're having a difficult time in class and that you're still not the strongest of fighters, so... I want to help you!

Jaune: Wh-what?

Pyrrha: We can train up here after class where no one can bother us!

Well no one except a certain rule breaker who lives and sleeps up here.

Jaune: You think I need help?

I mean...I would say that.

Pyrrha: N-no! No, that's not what I meant.

Pyrrha I know where this is going and yes it was.

Jaune: But you just said it.

Pyrrha: Jaune, everybody needs a little push from time to time. It doesn't make you any different from the rest of us. You made it to Beacon! That speaks volumes of what you're capable of!

Unlike me. Didn't really have any other option.

Jaune: You're wrong. I-I don't belong here.

Me: Hmm?

Jaune: What was that?

Whoops I hug the wall closer hoping they can't see my little shelter.

Pyrrha:  Jaune, that's a terrible thing to say! Of course you do!

I look back to them to see Jaune refocused on Pyrrha and a little angry at her too.

Jaune: No, I don't! I-I wasn't really accepted into Beacon...

Even though I can only see the back of her head, I bet Pyrrha is confused and shocked.

Pyrrha: Wh-what do you mean?

And that confirms it...

Jaune: I mean I didn't go to combat school, I didn't pass any tests. I didn't earn my spot at this Academy!

Okay maybe a little bit like me in some regard...

Pyrrha: What? But... why?

Jaune: "Cause this is always what I've wanted to be! My father, my grandfather, and his father before him were all warriors! They were all heroes! I wanted to be one, too. I was just never good enough...

Pyrrha: Then let me help you!

Jaune: I don't want help! I don't want to be the damsel in distress! I want to be the hero!

And there's that pride I was talking about Pyrrha with a little self righteousness in there.

Jaune: I'm tired of being the lovable idiot, stuck in the tree while his friends fight for their lives! Don't you understand? If I can't do this on my own... then what good am I?

Pyrrha tries to console him by reaching out for his arm, just for him to back away.

Jaune: Just... leave me alone. Okay?

Pyrrha: If that's what you think is best...

I lean back against the wall again as she walk off the roof as to not be seen.

When she closes the door to the roof I finally make myself known.

Me: Oh Jaune, why did you push her away?

Jaune jumps startled. Almost falling off the roof in the process.

Me: Whoa now! It's only me.

He seems to calm down a little after that realization but then adopts a panicked energy.

Jaune: Y-Y/N?! How long have you been there?! H-how much did you hear?!

I sigh knowing that there's no point in lying to him about this.

Me: I'd be lying if I said I just got here and that I didn't hear anything. Hell I've been here before you two came.

Jaune: Why are you even here in the first place?

Me: Simple. I sleep here.

I gesture to my shelter as he takes a few steps to the side to see it.

It was just a decent sized lean-to with a good tarp to cover it leaning on the rooftop access it had plenty of stuff I had either stole or bought. The lean-to itself was sturdy thanks to the experience of being homeless. But this lean-to is far above a homeless persons shelter but a kinda modern survivalist shelter and it even had a nice warm sleeping bag.

A/N: A picture for reference. But it's a more modern and has plenty of stuff around.

Jaune: You don't sleep in the dorms?

I shake my head no then get us back on topic.

Me: Jaune, you know that Pyrrha only wanted what's best for you right?

Jaune: Ughh. Not this again. Once again I don't need anyone's help!

Me: No offense Jaune, but you do. You see, you only say that because of your pride. You think if you ask for help, you'll only be hurting yourself, but that's not true.

Jaune: And what makes you so sure?!

Me: Jaune, everyone needs a push, a drive, to get what they want. I needed one at one point and so has Pyrrha I wager.

Jaune: I doubt that. Pyrrha is the best and you're leagues above me.

I sigh and look towards the ground.

Me: Jaune can I be honest with you?

He nods and I sigh again.

Me: You and me aren't that different. Getting here I mean. You see I ain't that experienced in this huntsman stuff.

Jaune: But I've seen you slash through packs of Grimm! You can't say you're not huntsman material!

Me: But I ain't. During the initiation, I was acting on instinct and I came out on top. I didn't plan out my approach I...I just winged it.

Jaune: Then how'd you get here if you don't believe that you should be here?

Me: Professor Ozpin thought I had talent even though I ain't that good.

In more ways than one actually...

Me: But Jaune, do you really believe that you'll just become a hero overnight? No you won't, do you know what struggles Pyrrha probably had to go through? Imagine it and I bet you'll imagine at some point that someone helped her get here.

He doesn't reply and looks towards the ground contemplating my words as I put a hand on his shoulder.

Me: Jaune, the sooner you realize that asking for help ain't a bad thing, the sooner you can get stronger. Stronger with yourself, your team, and your friends.

Jaune: Th-Thanks Y/N...

Me: No problem. That's what friends are for right? Remember we're only looking out for you. I gotta go before they stop transports to Vale, I'll catch you later Jaune!

And with that I left Jaune to his own devices going to do Roman's bidding just so I can keep breathing the air of freedom.

3rd POV

As you exit the dorm building and head for the landing pads, Blake secretly watches you from her dorm window.

Blake: And there he goes...I can't follow him but I can check for any robberies tomorrow. But even then that doesn't prove anything...but after every he's said before I have my suspicions.

He could be working with the White Fang and if he is I need to know...

Well it seems that you're inevitable work with Roman has come this won't be the first and last time no no no. Blake now suspects something is going on with you and may now be looking into more often.

Will you figure out how to get Roman and Blake off your back? Will you figure out how to help Jaune?? Will you ever find Master Oogway???

Find out next time on....
