Later that day Aragorn, Gimli, and the hobbits (except Merry) went to visit Legolas.

At first everyone was nervous about visiting with the elf, but when they had arrived he had smiled and welcomed them.

Of course, all were curious to know what happened to Legolas after the attack on Minas Tirith.

Legolas closed his eyes for a long time. Unseen memories passed through his mind. Finally, he spoke.

He told them everything. About waking up in the dungeons of Barad-Dur, the deal he had made with Sauron to spare Pippin's life, losing him, Amarth, Boromir, Eowyn, their escape, believing that they had been caught by Haradrim, and finally when he had awakened here.

The others listened without interrupting. All of them hurt for their friend, but none of them could get rid of their anger towards Boromir.

Boromir must be dealt with, Aragorn thought.

"What do you plan on doing with him Aragorn?" Gimli asked as if reading his thoughts.

The man sighed and shook his head. "I do not know. Perhaps, Legolas has any suggestions?"

Aragorn glanced at the elf.

"What you do with Boromir is none of my concern."

The others were shocked by Legolas' statement.

"What do you mean?" Gimli asked. "Don't you want him punished for what he's done?"

"He has already been punished. He will have to spend the rest of his life living with the guilt of what he has done."

Legolas looked at Aragorn.

"I have already dealt with Boromir myself. What you want to do with him is up to you. Now if you will excuse me, I would like to get up and move. I have been confined for far too long."

Legolas stood to his feet. The hobbits flinched as they noticed him stumble.

Once he stood he took a few careful steps forward, he almost fell but Aragorn caught him.

"Legolas, I don't think you should-"

"I must Aragorn. I cannot sit and do nothing."

The man conceded and let the elf walk on his own. Aragorn turned to Frodo and Sam.

"Why don't you two show Legolas around? There's not much to see but as long as you're here you might as well know your way about this place."

The hobbits nodded and smiled at Legolas., although the smiles were sad ones.

"Come on Legolas, we'll show you around." Sam said.

Legolas grinned and took another step and shook a little.

Frodo took the elf's hand and placed it on his shoulder for support.

"Thank you Frodo." Legolas said his voice revealing traces of exhaustion.

The hobbits led Legolas away leaving Gimli and Aragorn to decide what to do with Boromir.

"What do you think Gimli? I honestly don't know what to do." Aragorn was tired. He didn't want to deal with Boromir, he didn't want to deal with any of this! He wished he go back to when he'd had no one to care for but himself.

Things were much simpler then. If only I could go back...

"We should at least see what he has to say for himself." Gimli said.

Aragorn nodded.

"Let's go."

Legolas had to admit, as much as he hated being inside of caves, what Aragorn and the rest of the survivors had accomplished here was amazing.

Frodo and Sam showed him everything. They ignored the stares from the people, who had believed that there were no more elves.

They showed him the place where food and water was stored, the small armory, a place where the dwarves could use the metals they had mined to make weapons and armor.

There were sleeping places for the people, and several exits in case of an emergency.

The last place he was shown was what Sam and Frodo had said was their favorite place.

The place they showed him surprised the elf. It was filled with young children, running around and playing. Their mothers stood nearby watching them closely.

"Why is this your favorite place?" Legolas asked.

"We enjoy playing with the children. They're so carefree and innocent, it's a nice escape from everything that's going on." Sam explained.

A young girl with blonde hair smiled when she saw the two hobbits.

"Sam!" she ran over and wrapped her arms around him.

"Where have you been? I've missed you!"

Sam laughed and returned her hug.

"I'm sorry Haili. I was a little busy."

"I want you to finish you're story about Bilbo and the dwarves!" Haili pulled on his arm.

"Of course Haili! Where were we last?" Sam allowed himself to be led away by the young girl.

"We were at the part with the trolls! I want to know if Bilbo and the dwarves get eaten!"

Frodo smiled as he watched them go. A few more children, some dwarves and some hobbits, gathered around Sam to hear his story. Their mothers watched with smiles on their faces.

"I assume you come here often?" Legolas asked Frodo.

"We do, it's a nice distraction from everything else that is happening. Come on, I want you to meet someone."

Frodo led Legolas to a deeper part of the area. Inside were much younger children. They smiled as soon as Frodo came in.

A boy with curly brown hair ran over and grabbed Frodo's arm and began pulling it.

"Frodo! Tom said that you never really killed an orc before! Tell him that you did because he won't believe me."

Frodo laughed.

"Of course I will! If you will just give me a moment, I was going to introduce my friend here to someone."

The boy looked up in surprise at Legolas. He had never seen an elf before, but Legolas just followed Frodo to the very back.

There was a little boy sitting by himself. He looked up and saw Frodo. He smiled and ran over to the hobbit, Frodo smiled and lifted the boy up.

"Frodo! I missed you! Is my father here?"

Frodo smiled and shook his head. "No, he's not here."

"Oh," The boy's smile faded.

"But I brought someone here to meet you."

The boy's eyes lit up again.

"Who?"

Frodo motioned for Legolas to come over. Legolas walked over slowly, he was still so tired. He hated never having enough energy to do anything.

Sometimes it seemed much easier to just lay down and do nothing.

"This is Legolas." Frodo told the boy.

Legolas smiled and looked at the small child. He was clearly younger than the other children he had seen. He had long dark hair and blue eyes.

He looked up at Legolas with bright curiosity.

Frodo was about to tell Legolas the boy's name when another child called for Frodo to come over.

The hobbit sighed.

"It looks like I'm needed." he turned to Legolas and asked, "You wouldn't mind talking with him would you?"

Before the elf could say anything Frodo set the boy down and walked over to the other children, who were eagerly waiting for him.

Legolas looked down at the boy uncomfortably. He hadn't interacted with a child since the attack on Edoras. That seemed like such a long time ago.

"Why do your ears look like that?" the boy asked.

Of all the things he could notice and ask me about he chooses my ears? Legolas thought.

"What is wrong with my ears?" he walked over and sat down against the wall. The boy followed and sat down next to him.

"They're pointy like Frodo's. Are you a hobbit?"

Legolas couldn't help the small laugh that escaped him.

"No. I am not a hobbit."

"Then why are your ears pointy?"

"I am an elf."

The boy's eyes widened.

"Really?"

Legolas nodded.

"Yes. I am."

"Everyone said that there were no more elves."

Legolas winced. He still hadn't been able to accept that all the elves, besides him and Amarth, were gone.

"I am the last one." he said quietly.

"Why is your hair so long?" the boy asked changing the subject.

"All elves have long hair." he answered. He had never been asked about his hair before and the question amused him, briefly making him forget his sadness.

"It looks like Haili's hair."

Legolas remembered the girl who had run up to Sam earlier.

"Is that so?" he asked.

The boy nodded.

"Why are your eyes grey?"

Legolas paused. How was he supposed to answer that without frightening the boy?

"They used to be blue, like yours. But they faded." Legolas knew that his eye color was not the only thing fading.

"Why did they fade?" he asked.

Legolas sighed as he tried to come up with an answer.

"When an elf is sad, the color in their eyes start to fade." Legolas knew the boy couldn't possibly know the true weight behind his words.

"Why are you sad? Is it because of that?" the boy pointed at the scar on Legolas' face. The elf reached up and gently touched it.

"No, it is because of something else."

"What is it?"

"All of my family is gone. All of my people, friends, they are all gone. And I will never see them again."

The boy looked at him in silence. His eyes showed sadness and pity.

"Your parents are gone?" he asked.

Legolas nodded.

"Your mother and father?"

"My mother died when I was very young." Legolas told him quietly.

"How did she die?"
"She was killed by orcs."
"Do you miss her?"
"I do not remember her."

The boy fell silent.

"My mother is gone too. And I haven't seen my father for a very long time."

Legolas looked at him sympathetically.

"What happened to your mother?"

The boy shook his head.

"She was captured by orcs. I don't know where she is. I haven't seen my father since she was taken. My uncle says that they're still trying to find her."

Legolas looked at the boy. There was something strange about him, and his story.

"What is your name?" Legolas asked.

"Eldarion." he replied.
"Who is your uncle?" he asked.
"Eomer."

That was it. As soon as Legolas heard him say it he immediately recognized Argorn's dark hair and Eowyn's blue eyes. Everything about the boy resembed Aragorn and Eowyn in some way.

"Do you know my uncle?" Eldarion asked.

Legolas, too shocked to think clearly, answered. "Yes. I know him."

The boy's eyes brightend.

"Then do you know my mother?"

He doesn't know. He doesn't know that she's dead.

"Yes. I knew her."
"Do you know where she is?"
"No, I am sorry."

Eldarion's face fell. Legolas felt awful. The boy hadn't noticed how he said "knew." He hated lying to him, but in a way he wasn't. He didn't know where Eowyn's spirit was. Neither did he know where Pippin's spirit dwelled.

Eldarion asked, "Do you know my father?"
"I have known your father for many years."
"Can you ask him to come see me? I miss him."
"Of course."

That wouldn't be the only thing he would be asking him about.

At that moment Frodo came over and announced, "Alright Eldarion. Legolas and I are going to go now. He needs to get some rest.

Legolas stood up, he looked down in surprise as Eldarion hugged his arm.

"Will you come back and visit me again?" he asked.

Legolas smiled.

"Of course."

Eldarion beamed.

"Bye Legolas! I hope you feel better soon!"

Eldarion ran off to join the other kids while Frodo and Legolas left.

"Where is Sam?" Legolas asked.
"He's going to stay there for awhile. The kids really love him."

Legolas decided not to wait to ask Frodo his question.

"Why was I not told that Aragorn had son?"

Frodo paused and looked up at him.

"I don't know."
"Why did you want me to meet him?"
"Because I know you can help him. Aragorn hasn't said a word to Eldarion since Eowyn was taken."
"He has not been told of Eowyn's death."

It was not a question.

"No. I don't think that Aragorn will tell him. And he needs to. It would be better for him to hear it from Aragorn than anyone else."

Frodo closed his eyes and sighed.

"That's why I wanted you to meet him. I thought that you could talk to Aragorn, I lost both of my parents when I was young, and I would have broken if it hadn't been for Bilbo."

Legolas had almost forgotten, that not one but both of Frodo's parents died.

"I don't want Eldarion to grow up thinking that he isn't loved or wanted. That's why I need you to talk to Aragorn. In his grief he his pushing away his son. I can't take it Legolas."

Legolas looked at the hobbit in a new way. When he had first met Frodo, they had barely spoken a word to each other. To Legolas, he had just been a poor, young hobbit who had been burdened with a dark task.

But here he was now, the real Frodo. A hobbit who was always looking out for his family and friends. He never pitied himself, he may be weak on the outside, but his strength came from his heart, and his will to protect those closest to him.

Legolas wished that he had noticed it earlier.

"Do not worry Frodo. I will make sure to talk to Aragorn. I know exactly what it is you fear for Eldarion."

Frodo looked at him in surprise.

"You do?"
"Yes. Because it happened to me."
