"On the good ship lollipop, it's a sweet trip to the candy shop, where bon-bon's play, on the sunny beach of peppermint bay," Gumball sang quietly, pulling his, formerly Marshall Lee's, faded black t-shirt over his head, his hair ruffling in the process. Once he was ready for bed, he made his way over to his bed, which was covered in silk sheets and located in the center of his bedroom, and flopped down on the mattress. The coral colored curtains fluttered in the wind as a result of the open window. The sickeningly sweet smell of lollipops and peppermint floated through the air, causing the prince's eyes to drift shut. While the prince slept, a dark figure floated in through the window and rested itself on the end of Gumball's bed, watching over him.
The sun shone through the windows the following morning, penetrating the prince's eyelids. "Mmm...I don't want to wake up yet," he mumbled, trying to pull the covers over his head to shield his eyes from the light. He fell back to sleep and didn't wake up for another few hours. By the time Gumball pulled himself out of bed, Peppermint maid was knocking on the door and telling him that it was time to perform his princely duties of running a kingdom. After getting dressed and placing his crown upon his head, he made his way downstairs to the dining room, while unbeknownst to him, something was making it's way back to the prince's bedroom.
As the day progressed, he grew more tired, wanting nothing more than to finish his paperwork and crawl into bed. When the candy clock on the wall struck nine, he placed the pen in its rightful spot in the drawer and headed upstairs. Once in his bedroom Gumball got undressed and flopped down on his bed. A dark figure floated down from the ceiling.
"Hey Gummy," it whispered, its breath blowing against Gumball's ear. The prince shot up, a shriek coming from his mouth.
"Marshall Lee! Don't scare me like that," he exclaimed, placing his hand over his chest, trying to calm himself down. Marshall Lee swayed through the air and sat himself on the prince's bed.
"Aww, don't be scared," he chuckled, black hair falling over his eyes. "I just came to say hello," he added. Once his breathing returned to normal, Gumball closed his eyes and fell back, his head hitting the lollipop colored pillow. He sighed and opened his mouth to speak, then closed it again, not wanting to engage in conversation with the vampire who was currently on his bed. Said vampire placed his hands behind himself for support.
"What are you even doing here Marshall Lee? No one has seen you in 3 months," the prince muttered, his eyes coming open for a split second.
"Was I really gone that long?" he asked, looking up at the ceiling. "Well, time does move differently in the Nightosphere. I had some business to attend to with my mother," he muttered, lifting himself up in the air. Gumball looked down at his stomach and rested his hand on the bump.
"I wish you would have told me that you were leaving," Gumball whispered, "I had something really important to tell you before you left."
Marshall Lee flipped over in the air, bringing his focus to the prince. "I'm sorry, I wanted to call, but you know how my mother is."
The prince sighed, bringing his hand up to run his hand through the vampire's hair. It had felt like an eternity since he's seen his boyfriend, even though it had only been a few months. Marshal Lee's mother had never been the biggest supporter of their relationship. When they began dating a few years ago, they had kept it hidden from their families and friends. But, when Lumpy Space prince found out, all hell had broken loose. The Royal Advisors had immediately demanded that he break off the relationship. They had said that it was for the 'protection of the kingdom.' At this request, Gumball had broken down crying in front of the entire council.
"No!" he had cried, falling to his knees, burying his face in his hands and desperately trying to stop the tears. After much deliberation with the council, they had come to an agreement. The two were allowed to continue their relationship, but Marshall Lee had to stop scaring the citizens and Gumball had to keep up on his duties as prince. That had been almost three years ago.
"So what did you want to tell me?" the vampire asked, letting himself descend and lay down next to the prince. Gumball thought for a moment, metaphorical gears turning in his head. Without speaking he grabbed Marshall Lee's hand and gently placed it on his stomach. The vampire looked at him in confusion. His gaze instantly shot down to the prince's stomach when he felt something kick his hand.
"W-What? Is that-?" Marshall Lee began to ask before being cut off by Gumball.
"It's a girl," he whispered, "I found out I was pregnant the day before you left." gumball added. He looked up at his long-term boyfriend, only to see him crying. "Marshall?"
The vampire could barely contain his feelings. "I-I'm going to be a dad?" he asked, wrapping his arms around Gumball.
"Yeah, and you're going to be the best dad in the entire world," the prince replied, holding vampire tightly.
"Have you told anyone yet?" Marshall Lee asked softly.
Gumball nodded. "I've only told Peppermint maid and Cake," he said, slightly releasing his grip on his boyfriend. "I'm pretty sure Peppermint maid knew before I did. She started making me take prenatal vitamins the second I confirmed it. And she completely re-did my schedule so it wouldn't be as stressful for the baby. Then I told Cake right after I found out, She was the only person I knew who had been pregnant with hybrid babies. She's been such a dear. She even offered to give us her old baby clothes. I did have to decline though; the clothes had too many feet holes."
Marshall Lee was smiling and running his hand over the baby bump. "She is going to a hybrid, isn't she?"
"Yeah, at least, that's what I'm assuming. I mean, you're a vampire and I'm a candy person," Gumball said.
"Well she's going to be beautiful, no matter what."
