Quick Summary: A breezy paranormal mystery with a lot of fun ideas, but a major flaw - it's a good 150 pages longer than the story requires.

Title: Haunting Jordan

Author: Alderman, P.J.

Date of Publication: 2009

I don't know how it happens, but it seems that I keep running into these paranormal mystery novels lately. This one is a breezy book about a psychologist, Jordan, accused of murdering her unfaithful husband. At the same time, she moves into a new home, which happens to be haunted. One of the ghosts demands that Jordan solve a century-old murder. In the process, Jordan also discovers what really happened to her late husband.

The book has a lot going for it, including lots of humour and a fun, easy-going writing style. Unfortunately, it has one major flaw - its length. The book is more than 400 pages long, and there isn't enough story to fill all those pages. A book should be exactly as long as it needs to be to tell a story, and not one word longer. This book, unfortunately, is a good 150 pages longer than the story requires. It begins to drag by the middle, and by the end the story has been drawn out to the point that it is almost painful.
