Hello people (can't just say 'ladies and gentlemen' because I might trigger someone), welcome to my GUIDE TO FANFICTION DISCLAIMERS.

First note, this is not meant to offend anyone and I am terribly sorry if it does. I intend to educate fanfiction writers with the knowledge of what I believe should be in a disclaimer. This, however, is my opinion so you can still continue writing without theuse of the information contained in this text.

Next, the reason I am writing this is because (while I do not particularly mind reading lemons) I'd rather be warned about it first.

Now that my reasoning is over with, on with what a disclaimer is -

A disclaimer is a little message at the beginning/end of a fanfiction that credits (or is suppose to credit) the original owners and/or copyrighters of characters/fandom the fanfiction is set in. A disclaimer should also include any nesscary warnings (e.g.: lemons, gore, violence etc) for the benefit of other people's good mentality, because I'm sure we don't want to accidently traumatise someone with our work.

I usually put the disclaimer at the beginning of my fanfictions as a seperate chapter with the following layout (along with definitions of each one):

Summary - This shit is obvious. Basically what would be on the back cover if this was a printed book. Try to avoid revealing anything to major and keep it snappy but hooking.

Disclaimer - Basically stating which crap* I do and do not own in the story. (*By crap I mean any refrences to any copyrighted material, even a quote from a book).

Codes - Usually used in reader inserts for idiots who cannot figure out what (Y/N)* means.
(*for the record, this means [Your Name])

Pairing(s) - It means these two characters will probably (most definitely) get together later on in the story so if you no likey, then you no readey.

Warning(s) - Tells you whether this shit is for people with nerves of steel or not.

Age rating - Tells you what age you SHOULD be to read this fanfiction, but if you want to read it anyway, go right ahead but I'm not stopping you. Just don't blame me if you sob your eyes out or piss in your bed tonight. That's your doing, not mine. I warned you.

Author's Notes - Usually written as 'AN' by other fanfic writers and you probably see it all the time but you had no idea what it actually stood for. Anyway, this is just random notes about the story, what inspired it, why I enjoyed writing a particular chapter, why it took so fucking long for me to post a really shitty piece of text - shit like that.
