Everybody mistakes Lewin for Rin's older brother because he's always looked so young. At first, both Ryuji and Angel thought Rin was Lightning's younger brother.

"Who is that kid that always hangs around you?" Angel wondered. "Rin? I raised him. I guess he's technically my son." Lightning shrugged, grinning at the wide-eyed reaction he got from the Knight.

"You raised a child?! You raised the son of Satan?! Who let you?!" He was absolutely horrified. "Well, it was gonna be The Paladin–Fujimoto. But Mephisto trusted me more than that guy to raise and train the kid since I grew up with regular humans in a free country and wasn't raised by the order as a loveless, cold hearted orphan, so I took him back to America with me." Lewin answered.

"And was that effective? Did you suppress his demonic instincts?" Angel asked curiously. "Even better. I put them to use. Started training him when he was about four or five. Took him all the way until highschool to get real friends. All the other kids thought he was weird after an incident involving Rin throwing another student through a wall in first grade." Lightning shrugged.

"He what?!" Angel gasped. "Hey, that kid shouldn't have opened his mouth. Everyone knew Rin's actual parents didn't keep him. That kid decided to point out that they were dead abd wouldn't have loved him anyway and it got messy from there." Lightning sighed. "Children are cruel." Angel winced.

"When we got home, Rin told me that sometimes, humans are worse than demons. He was right, too. To notice that at such a young age probably meant that I wasn't an A+ parent. But I couldn't really do anything about that. I took him in to train him, not raise him to be a huge softie. Even now, though, he really is a sweet kid." Lightning explained. "Hm. So he's got incredible observation and analysis skills. And....a weakness because he so soft?" Angel listed.

"Oh no. He knows what needs to be done. He knows that life is not like a movie. He knows that if there's one person he loves being held captive while a city might be destroyed, he'll have to choose the city. He's seen plenty of people he cares about fall to both demons and humans alike." Lightning assured the blond.

"That's....very sad." Angel did, in fact, look incredibly saddened by that fact.

"See, Angel? If you raise a demon like a human, it will learn to love them and look out for them. It will protect them." Lightning told him.

Angel watched as the man walked away, whistling an unknown tune.

'That man.....does not love the child he raised.' Angel realized.

'He only follows orders.'
