MythicalSkylarWitch and Alfred_Is_A_Badass wanted this so here we go

I've never written stuff about Nekos before - in fact, I had to do some research on the matter because I wasn't even sure what they were - so please be kind

EDIT: TW BLOOD

It was a rather slow night in Gotham which didn't happen often. Robin was sitting on a ledge beside his mentor as the older did something on his phone. He raised an eyebrow and leaned in to get a look at the contact. "Selina?" he mumbled. Batman grunted and put his phone away. They were on a break so he didn't have to. This made Robin curious.

"It's rude to snoop," Batman scolded.

"I promise I won't tell Demon Spawn," he bargained. Batman sighed. "C'mon. This will fill your bonding quota for the month."

"Selina was hurt a week back. She hasn't talked to me since. Can't seem to get a hold of her," he stated. "Not a word to anyone else. This stays  between us." Robin nodded and looked down to the alley.

"We're not far from where she lives," Robin began. He looked to the older hoping he got the idea but he was just stared at blankly. No wonder his brothers were so socially inept. He sighed at him, wondering if Alfred has ever cared to tell him how to interact with the opposite sex. He was probably too busy trying to get him not to be a vigilante. "You could go visit?"

"Why would I visit her? She isn't talking to me." Robin facepalmed. How did he, a glorified street rat, know more about the ladies than the billionaire playboy?

"Because it's the gesture that matters. Jeez, don't you know anything about women?"

Suddenly an alarm rang and a boy was running out of one of the shops with a bag of Doritos in his mouth. A shopkeeper ran out after him, waving a broom angrily, shouting, "Don't come back freak!"

"You can get that one Mr Ladies Man," Batman told him with a ghost of a smile. Robin groaned and got up. They had a routine when they found kids stealing. They made them say sorry, give the thing back and if this was their second time, they got taken to the station. Gotham's poverty problem was growing so they didn't like to be too mean to those who stole from necessity.

"Fine," he groaned. "See you around." He jumped down the fire escape and chased after the boy. "Hey, kid!" It almost never worked to call to them as they ran away but sometimes it did. He always tried it just in case he could avoid running about for long. The boy was quite far ahead of him and Robin assumed he hadn't heard. That was until he paused. The boy's eyes had a shine to them and his pointed ears were directed towards him- wait, pointy ears? Pointy cat ears if he was precise. A Neko? Odd. There weren't many in Gotham, mostly because it sucked to be a Neko here. The boy stared at him, the bag of Doritos still in his mouth and his tail slowly moving back in forth. It looked like he was sussing Robin out. Seeing if he was a threat or not. His eyes narrowed and he bolted off again. Robin didn't know if it was a compliment to be considered a threat. Either way, he continued the chase. They ran through alleys, past crowds, over bins, across roads. This Neko was trying everything in his bag of tricks to shake him off but Robin was much too curious about him to leave him be. A Neko. A small one nonetheless. He wondered if he had a family. He wondered how he ended up in Gotham. Was he born here? Was he on his way to Central City, a safe place for those of his kind, and got lost?

After ten minutes of running around, the Neko climbed up onto a bin and leapt up onto the metal fire escape of an apartment building. He stayed there for a moment to watch Robin run into the alley only to realise he'd escaped to higher ground. When he was in the alley, instead of escaping to an apartment, he walked over to the ladder and released it. Robin stared at him in confusion and walked over to the ladder. Was he trying to lead him somewhere rather than escape? When he put his hand on the ladder, the Neko nodded. "You want me to follow you?" He nodded again. "Okay?" Robin climbed up the ladder and the Neko leapt up to another level. This continued until they got to one of the very last apartments. He opened the window and crawled inside. Once inside, he cautiously crawled over to the figure on the couch and put the Doritos on their chest before sitting cross-legged on the floor. "Why did you bring me here kid?" Robin inquired, following him in. The Neko didn't say anything, instead, he pressed his head against the hand of the figure that hung off the couch. The person groaned unhappily, making the Neko frown.

"She sick. I don't know uhm uhm the numbers. Ones that call help. I steal so you follow. You help Selina." The name instantly stuck out for obvious reasons and Robin rushed over to the figure only to confirm it was indeed the same Selina. He gently shook her arm, gaining another groan, but failed to wake her up.

"How long has she been like this?"

"Five nights. She come here with big big cut on her uhm," he paused as he thought about the word. He eventually got too frustrated and pointed to her abdomen. "There. On there." Robin nodded and lifted up her shirt a little to see blood-soaked bandages. She must've gotten too tired to clean them and he didn't doubt this kid that brought him here had no idea how to change them. He took a moment to think about what he did next.

"Alright, what's your name kid?" he asked.

"Dick," he answered.

"I was just asking- oh that's your name. Unfortunate but heyho. Dickie, do you have somewhere you can stay or is Selina your only family?"

"No no she not family. She uh she let me live here," he tried to explain as best he could. Robin nodded and pulled out his communicator.

"B, we have a situation. Selina is sick and she's letting a Neko room with her. What's the best course of action?" Dick stared at him apprehensively as he listened to the plan, his body language screaming worry. "Right. I'll get him to a shelter, you get her to a hospital. Got it." He hung up and turned to the little boy. "Looks like we're getting you to a shelter Dickie."

"Oh."

After days of feeling like she was living on the sun, Selina finally felt a chill. She furrowed her eyebrows at the feeling and wondered where the feeling was coming from. She couldn't hear the wind that would be making her window whistle when it was open so it couldn't be that. Her AC was still out so it couldn't be that either. She opened her eyes, groaning at the bright light that greeted her. Definitely not in her apartment. Unless Dick had found a flashlight and was trying to wake her up. Then again, if it were him he'd do that worried purr like sound. She couldn't think of the right description. It was adorable whatever it was. After squeezing her eyes shut and then opening them again a few times, she managed to actually see where she was. A hospital room. She'd recognise those bleak white walls and machinery anywhere. "Selina? Can you hear me?" That voice was Bruce. Low, gruff and concerned. Her eyes darted towards him and she put on a smile though she felt like shit. Worse than shit in fact.

"Loud and clear," she replied. "You wanna tell me why I'm sat in a hospital bed and not my usual bed?"

"Your cut got infected. That Neko you had saved your life by getting our attention. The doctor said you could've died if you left it any further," he explained.

"Ah, that Dickie is a smart boy. Where is he?" she asked.

"In a shelter. Gotham Central I believe." Selina pushed herself up, wincing at the burning sensation running through her abdomen, and glared at him with all her might. You see, Selina herself had grown up in a shelter. A Neko such as herself with no means to live on her own had no other option. That's why she let Dick into her life in the first place. "You did what?" she snarled.

"Don't stress yourself-"

"Don't stress myself? You put that poor boy in a shelter!" she shouted. "He needs a home, not that place. It's simply a front! They pretend to care but they're nothing but bastards." He sighed at her but she couldn't see how he thought this was a good idea. Gotham was the worst place ever for people like herself and Dick, therefore, everything that was for them sucked. Including those that were supposed to help them.

"Selina, he had to go in a shelter. There was no other way."

"He needs family not that place. Ugh, you annoy me to no end, you know that? Think you know everything well you don't."

"Where am I going to find him a family? Hardly anyone in Gotham wants a Neko anymore, those who do aren't the best. A shelter is the best place for the time being perhaps even for longer than your recovery." If he didn't piss her off before, he definitely did there.

"What's that supposed to mean?" she hissed. He went to answer but promptly shut his mouth.

"God, you really need help," Jason commented. "You do realise that this problem can be easily solved."

"Since when were you here?" Selina asked. He showed her the two cups of coffee in his hands.

"Came back from a coffee run but you two were going at it. Anyhow, like I was saying, this problem can be easily solved," he continued, passing his mentor the beverage. The couple looked at him in confusion. He sighed at them. "God do I have to spell it out?"

"Yes," they said in unison.

"Selina doesn't want Dick living in a shelter and you want him with a home. We can't just put him with any family but we literally know someone who would treat Dick well," he said.

"Gordon already has Barbara. I don't think he'll appreciate-"

"I'm talking about us B, us. We can take Dick in whilst Selina recovers, maybe teach him English in the meantime, and then give him back when she's fine again. Problem solved right?"

"Slight issue - we need Tim and Damian's approval on the matter and both of them have said they don't want another person living at the Manor simply for safety's sake." Jason smiled and got out his phone. He went onto his contacts and tapped on Damian's number first because he'd be the easiest. When he did, he put his phone on speaker as the two adults just watched him. He was up to something, they knew that but what that was, they had no clue.

"What do you want Todd?"

"We have a situation. Y'know that Neko B put in a shelter three nights ago?" There was a hum. "Well, Selina wants him with a family. B and I are happy to let him chill with us but Tim says he can't-"

"Well I vote we let him stay us, therefore, he stays with us and that's final." He hung up and then went on his contacts again. He called Tim this time and began with the same setup.

"Damian doesn't want him living with us?" Tim repeated, making sure he had it right.

"Yep. You should see the poor kid, he's so small. Won't last a week in that shelter but I suppose Damian doesn't care. I even told him that he can't speak English that well but Demon Spawn will always be Demon Spawn," he explained in a very sad tone.

"Oh well, that's just horrible. Tell Bruce he can pick that kid up today. If Damian says anything, he'll regret it." Jason's smile grew as he hung up the phone and looked triumphantly at Bruce.

"There. Alfred will agree anyway because at this point why wouldn't he? Are we all happy now?" he asked. Selina nodded, content with this outcome, and laid back down. "Great. Let's go get him then."

Dick hated it here. He was already planning a way to get out but he wasn't quite sure how to put it into action. As soon as he was thrown, no exaggeration he was thrown, in this tiny room with five others, he hated it. When they were fed there were fights. It was a battle he usually lost and he ended up just eating the scraps with cuts and bruises from his attempt. They were let out of the room for two hours, maybe three. He wasn't sure as he was usually hiding from the others. He wondered if Selina was alright. Robin and Batman were there so she probably was. He wondered if she missed him. Did she even care where he was? Had he just overstayed his welcome? Those thoughts filled up most of his time. Especially at night. He feared sleeping in such a small room with very little supervision from those in charge. When he did sleep, it wasn't long. It never felt like more than a few hours at the most. The others would claw at him and complain that he made too much noise. He was told there was a possibility of being fostered or even adopted but no one ever came by for that to be true. His only way out was breaking out but Selina hadn't gotten very far in teaching him how to lockpick. Maybe she'd get him out of here when she was better. Maybe she wouldn't. He hoped she would.

After yet another breakfast where he was left eating the crumbs left by the others, a woman came to their door and told them to line up in height order. He tried to ask why they had to do this but she was already gone. He did as he was told anyway which was rather easy since he was the smallest in the room. From down the hall, he heard some voices. They were all male and repeated the same phrase in a hushed tone - "Not him." He wondered what they meant by that. Were they looking for a specific Neko? Were they police? That would explain why they were lined up like that. He didn't like the police. When he tried his best to say that a man killed his parents, they said something along the lines of "Well, they shouldn't have come here." Later, he found a newspaper with his parents on but he couldn't read very well. He brought it to Selina and she explained that it had been deemed an accident. If this was the police, he hoped they weren't looking for him. He didn't want to speak with them after what they did. They might try to get him to rat out Selina. He'd stay silent. The voices got closer and closer until he could actually see them. There were four people, all male. One was rather tall and had sharp features, the second tallest shared those features though his skin was tanner. The third tallest was pale and had bags under his eyes. He smelt like coffee too. The smallest of the group looked a little scruffier than the rest and was missing one of his front teeth. All of them were dressed in the designer brands Selina fawned over in magazines. Their eyes studied each of them but when they looked at Dick, they muttered to one another then nodded. "Richard Grayson, isn't it?" the tallest asked. He nodded. "I'm a friend of Selina. You're coming to stay with us." Dick cocked his head to the side, his big bright blue eyes examining the group. He'd never met them before. Then again, he wasn't with Selina for that long and he spent a lot of time trying to catch up with the missed sleep he got thanks to his nightmares. He slowly stepped forward. If this was his ticket out of here, he may as well take it. A house was much easier to escape than this shelter so if things went south, he could run. The smallest of the group held out his hand for the younger to take and smiled at him when he did cautiously take it. That smile was familiar but he couldn't place where he'd seen it. Perhaps he'd seen him walking down the street or something? He shrugged to himself. "We just need to go through some paperwork but then we can take you home," the tallest explained. Dick simply nodded.

Eventually, the paperwork was signed and Dick was led to a long car. It was black and the windows in the back couldn't be looked into. He gulped. He didn't like that. "Grayson, the windows are blacked out to prevent attacks on us. It's much safer than if they were clear," the tan one stated, almost like he'd sensed the boy's unease around them. A man in a suit with grey hair got out the front part of the car and walked around towards them. The man knelt down with a kind smile that instantly made the Neko feel much safer than he had before.

"It's nice to meet you, young man. My name's Alfred. What should I refer to you as?" he asked.

"Dick. Richard too formal," he answered, struggling with the last word.

"Master Dick it is." Alfred stood up and opened the car door, gesturing his head to tell the boy to get in. Nervously, Dick did and immediately went to the furthest corner. There was a very strong pine scent in the car but it wasn't stomach-churning. The rest of the group got in, the smallest of the group taking a seat beside him. Once they were in the car, the smell was overbearing. The tallest was wearing a powerful aftershave, the palest stunk of coffee and the pair on his side of the car were wearing a strong deodorant smell. None of these smells went together and was overpowering for the poor Neko. He put his shirt over his nose to mask the smell but it was still quite overbearing.

"Something wrong?" the tallest asked.

"Smells." The group looked at him confused until the one that stunk of coffee snapped his fingers.

"Your sense of smell is much greater than ours. We could open the windows a little if that would help?" He nodded and they opened the windows a little. He had to wait a few moments but he soon found it tolerable to bring his nose out from his shirt. He sneezed softly when confronted with the smell again, gaining a coo from the smallest.

"What your names? I never seen you before," Dick asked.

"Oh, where are our manners. I'm Bruce Wayne, these are my sons Damian, Tim and Jason. Once you get more comfortable we'll have you meet the others but for now, you'll be seeing just us," Bruce explained. That Wayne name stood out. When Selina read the article detailing his parent's "accident" she'd said that their funerals had been paid for by Bruce Wayne. He wondered why he had but he'd ask that later. He didn't want to bring that up now. He wasn't ready to speak about his parents.

"Selina no be there?"

"No, she's recovering in the hospital. You'll be able to see her when she's feeling better," Bruce told him. He frowned at that. He missed her.

"Hey, it's alright. She'll be better soon and I'm sure you'll see her before you know it," Tim assured him.

"I hope so."

I'll leave it here - do you guys want a pt 2? Let me know and I'll make more content for it!
