Annika went for a round in the clinic to check on her patients. After she was done she looked at the time. There was just ten minutes before she had to meet Shivaay. She checked herself in the mirror. Arranged her hair that was limp with sweat into a chic knot. Applied a little colour on her lips. And then went to get her car. As she was driving her brother called her. She picked up and and said 'Yes , Ayan tell me.'
Ayan said 'You free for lunch? I got off early from work today.'
Annika hesitated and said 'Umm, actually I am going to have lunch  with Shivaay today.'
After a minute or so Ayan managed to say 'The smuggler and your employer Shivaay?'
Annika said 'Yep. He asked me out to lunch today so I said yes.'
Ayan said 'Why do you want to deepen your relation with that family?'
Annika said in her calm voice 'Ayan relax, its just one lunch. And Shivaay is nicer than the rest of his family.'
Ayan said with a voice filled with sarcasm 'Oh yes he is very nice. He smiles right after his mother's death. That's the first trait of a nice man.'
Annika sighed and made an effort to keep her voice even 'Ayan, I don't care what you think.I am not getting involved into anything. It's just a casual lunch.'
Ayan said 'Fine, whatever'
He hung up and Annika thought 'Ayan was her only and biggest support in this world. Her parents had left both of them to fend for themselves at a young age because they were not compatible. Her mom was a cocaine addict and dad was sick of taking her responsibility. So one fine day , he decided to leave this responsibility and go away to live his own life. Her mom had little money and spent it only on cocaine. Soon she passed away. Annika and her brother Ayan were left alone to fight by themselves. Annika was little that time and Ayan was around fifteen , he started working as a daily wage labourer and a cook at a small restaurant. Most of  the money that he used to earn , was spent on his and Annika's education at  a small government school. Both of them worked hard at school and when Annika became a teenager she helped Ayan. Soon their circumstances got better. Ayan had cleared his engineering entrance and was working for a MNC, he could pay for Annika's coaching and other expenses. And when Annika got into the best medical college, things couldn't have got better for the brother sister duo. Both were happy with each other. They were like each others pillars of support. Both loved each other and were fiercely protective of each other. But both of them had a rotten love life. Their interaction with their father had led them to believe that love didn't exist. Annika was like a cold hearted stone with no emotions and so was Ayan. But Annika felt differently around Shivaay. She knew that he liked her and for once she didn't try to get rid of a man by being rude. Shivaay was a gentleman for her but she hated the work he was involved in . He and his family dealt with drugs. The drugs were the reason her whole family was ruined. But still she couldn't resist feeling nice when Shivaay complimented her occasionally. Three months ago though she had found Shivaay's smile at his mothers sudden demise very odd, today she thought that maybe his mother wasn't like a mother.She thought that even she didn't cry when her mother passed away. She was a terrible woman.'
She stopped her flashbacks from the past and parked her car and went to meet Shivaay at the 'Heavenly Delights'. Shivaay was already there. Shivaay saw her and thought that though her dress was wrinkled and she looked overworked , there was something so beautiful about her that he couldn'tv stop staring. When she approached him , he pulled out the chair and she sat. She smiled and said 'Shall we order?'. Shivaay who was lost stirred and said 'Huh,.. Umm yeah, let's order.'
Annika said 'Are you alright?'
Shivaay blushed and said 'Yeah, it's just that I can't believe I am here with you.'
Annika bit her lips and smiled crookedly, she said 'What would you like to have ?'
Shivaay looked at the menu and said 'The lamb chops and butter chicken,'
Annika said 'So you like butter chicken too do you ?'
Shivaay said 'Oh yes and also others who like it.'
Annika couldn't help laughing and said 'You are one smooth flirt aren't you.'
Shivaay chucked and said 'I wasn't one , but then I met someone and I can't control the words that come to me. And the food is here.'
They chatted a bit more about the weather and things while eating. Annika had some gravy around her lips and Shivaay pointed it to her. She couldn't see where and Shivaay said 'May I ?'
She nodded , Shivaay leant in forward an wiped the gravy. Annika studied his face. He was indeed handsome and had an intelligent face. Shivaay caught her staring and said 'So , Dr.Singhania , you find me good looking ?'
Annika looked the other way and Shivaay smiled secretly. He said 'This lunch was my treat.'
Annika said 'Thank you. I had a nice time.'
Shivaay said 'So would you like to do this again?'
Annika looked at her watch and said 'Maybe , but I have to hurry now.' She left and Shivaay followed. Annika went to the parking area and found it desolated.She walked towards her car and suddenly heard some lewd comments being thrown at her by some boys , she ignored them but moved at a faster pace. Soon the boys were surrounding her and she got scared, she ran and tripped but  an arm caught her. And she heard a ear splitting gun shot.
