the daisy and the rose

Rose, how lovely you are with your ruby petals

Resplendent in the essence of romance divine

Touched by Venus, beloved by all

There is no one who can resist your intrigue

An ability all your own.

Rose, you are the heart of humanity

Beating and blossoming to the rhythms of life

A constant reminder of how they should be played.

Rose, I envy you.

I envy your ruby petals, because they are more enchanting

Than mine, a crown of simple snow.

I envy your intrigue, because you are always chosen

For the mysteries hidden within your very soul.

I may write mine, sing mine, scream mine from the reaches

Of our garden,

But I am never heard.

Rose, I envy you.

I envy your influence on humanity,

And how you can weave these maxims and truths into

Something beautiful, something worthy of the glory.

I can do the same, or at least I think I can.

I remain in the shadows all the same.

Rose, you have been and will be associated with great

Things.

I cannot deny you that, nor can the rest of us.

I simply wish I, a sole daisy surrounded by your influence,

Can begin to separate myself from the suffocating stench

That is your aroma.

I wish that I can begin to see the same beams of dewy

Sunlight that grace your petals.

White and gold are colors of rulers, of victors;

I shall join them all the same.

Lastly, Rose, I sincerely wish you the best in all you do

But I can no longer remain in the shadows

When I know I deserve the same glory as you have received.

A simple daisy am but I,

And a Rose you will forever be,

Different in ways all things are,

But alike all the same.
