Sometimes Gabriella Kane forgot she was only eighteen years old.

She never really thought much about the fact that not that many teenagers her age went through what she did; prison, multiple near death experiences, being sent to a radiation soaked planet by their father, getting tortured by a sociopathic doctor that wanted her and her people's bone marrow, almost getting turned into a reaper, etc.

A lot of teenagers didn't even want to try and take charge of a hundred delinquent kids who could barely be controlled. But not Gabriella. She liked power. She liked knowing she was in charge and that her word was final.

That's what she liked about her time by the dropship so much. She was in control. And to her, control represented safety.

But in Mount Weather? Nothing was safe.

Gabriella and Bellamy bullshited their way through all their problems and improvised ninety percent of the situations they went through in what was supposed to be a three day mission.

You know what else wasn't safe 𝘰𝘳 sanitary? Spending more than two hours in the vents that haven't been cleaned in what looked like almost a year.

Bellamy managed to convince Gabriella they should stay in the vents until everything around outside cools off and so they can rest for a bit.

Now that they were done with that, Bellamy led her to where he was taken after they got separated when they first entered Mount Weather. They were going there because according to them, that was where the Mountain Man were taking the grounders before they bleed them to death.

"Gods, my legs are killing me." Gabriella groaned, stretching out her limbs as soon as she followed Bellamy out of the vent and into what looked like a torturing dungeon filled with cages.

"Tell me about it." Bellamy muttered in agreement, pulling out a gun and raising it warily, Gabriella doing the same thing with one of the guns she borrowed from him earlier.

It was a little harder to use since she preferred bigger guns or rifles but it's not like she had anything else since she used up all the bullets in her old gun.

Bellamy pulled out the keys to the cages and went up to the first one, unlocking and opening it and speaking to the unfamiliar grounder girl inside, "Get up. It's time to go. I told you I'd come back for you. Come on out. Our people are marching on Mount Weather right now."

Gabriella gave the grounder girl a nod of acknowledgment when she got out, before taking the keys out of Bellamy's hand and unlocking the next cage. She opened it, reaching forward to try and help the grounder inside of it get out, only for him to flinch away from her touch.

"Calm down. We're getting you out." she told him, gently but still obviously impatient.

"Slow down." the brunette snapped at her, her eyes narrowed into a glare that made Gabriella rise a challenging eyebrow in her direction.

"They just bled him."

Gabriella expression softened and she instantly took a gentler approach, "Listen, there's an army of both our 𝘢𝘯𝘥 your people out there ready to fight. We need to get all of you out and ready to fight."

"We just need your help." Bellamy added, "Can you do that?"

When the grounder nodded, Gabriella smiled slightly, "Good. Start with getting him out first."

While Gabriella moved on to the next cage, Bellamy groaned in annoyance, "Too much noise."

The grounder pursed her lips before moving to the center of the cages and yelling something in grounder.

"Okay." she sighed and walked back to Gabriella and Bellamy once the rest of the grounders calmed down, "How do we do this?"

"There's an army outside going for the main door. When they get it open all hell will break loose." Bellamy explained, "That is the signal for my friends to come here, and then── "

His explanation was cut off by the sound of Cage's voice ringing through the room over the public radio.

"He's going public." Bellamy breathed out, voicing Gabriella's thoughts and making her curse.

"This fucking sociopath."

"Where are you going?" the grounder asked with furrowed eyebrows as Gabriella rushed to the door with Bellamy hot on her trail.

"He's trying to get his people to turn on each other." Bellamy explained, "They will find our friends. We have to bring them here now. We'll send them in groups and you get your people ready to go, but you wait for Gabi and I to come back, you understand?"

When they received a nod in response, they walked over to the vent opening, only to stop when the grounder called after them.

Gabriella turned back with a raised eyebrow, surprised at the genuine look on the grounder's face as the words left her mouth.

"Thank you."

Nodding, Gabriella's words weren't a question, but more like an order, "Free your people first and then protect ours when they arrive. Thank us when we all get out alive."

"What a load of bullshit." Gabriella scoffed under her breath, closing the vent doors and diving back into the darkness.

-

While Gabriella and Bellamy were trying to find where the hell their friends were, they only realized they surrendered like the idiots they were when they rounded one of the vents and found them standing behind a guard who had his gun aimed at Maya's father.

"I swear I can't leave those idiots alone for more than an hour." Gabriella muttered, lifting her gun up and narrowing her eyes before shooting the guard straight in the head, his body falling limp on the floor not even a second later.

Sighing in relief, Philip rushed to remove the opening to the vent, allowing Gabriella and Bellamy to crawl out of it.

"Hey, good job." Bellamy told Vincent, patting his shoulder while referring to his previous stalling.

"Nate, you alright?" Gabriella asked, rushing to Miller's side as soon as she saw his beat up face and the way he was limping.

"Better than you." Miller replied, making the blonde instantly know he was in fact okay for now.

"We need to get everyone to the Harvest Chamber." Bellamy chimed in, giving all of them besides Gabriella a pointed look, "You'll be safe there."

"Did you just put the words 'harvest chamber' and 'safe' in the same sentence?" Philip asked the dark haired male with narrowed eyes.

"Just trust me."

"Are the others there?" Jasper asked, his eyes shifting between Gabriella and Bellamy ever so often.

"Not yet." Gabriella shook her head.

"And Monty?"

"He's with the other group on Level Three." Vincent said, answering Philip's question, "Don't worry, we moved them after the last sweep." his attention turned over to Bellamy and Gabriella, "You should go there next."

The Kane girl nodded at his words and turned to Jasper, letting Miller lean on Philip, "You should go, Vincent will take you. Bellamy and I won't be long. Just in and out."

"Hey." Jasper called after the two co-leaders once they turned to walk away. They turned back around to see him carrying a gun in his hands, "I'm coming with you."

Gabriella scoffed almost on reflex, "Yeah, no you're not. Jas, I love you, but you don't go into battles like this. You're the guy that gets killed cleaning his own gun. So as much as I hate splitting up again── "

"I promised I'd protect them." Jasper cut her off stubbornly, "That's exactly what I'm gonna do."

Letting out a heavy sigh, Gabriella nodded, "Fine. But if you die I swear I'm gonna kill you."

"Got it."

-

Next thing Gabriella knew, the entire Mountain was shaking and she couldn't block out the urgent screams and yells heard from all over Mount Weather.

That could only mean one thing.

The battle was officially starting.

She was the first one to get out of the vent and into the hallway, allowing Bellamy, Jasper and Maya ── who unsurprisingly came along for Jasper's sake ── to get out before closing the opening.

"We don't have much time." Bellamy rushed out, "The last twelve are on this level."

"Including Monty." Jasper added, turning to his girlfriend, "Which way?"

Maya pointed down the hall, "This way."

"𝘈𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. 𝘊𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘴 𝘖𝘯𝘦 𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘪𝘯 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵. 𝘈𝘭𝘭 𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘻𝘦𝘯𝘴 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘓𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭 𝘍𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘭𝘺. 𝘏𝘢𝘳𝘥-𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘭 𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘬𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘪𝘯 𝘛-𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘴-𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘺 𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘴."

"Class One quarantine?" Gabriella repeated in confusion, "What the hell does that mean?"

"𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘢 𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘭𝘭."

"Listen to me." Jasper said, stepping in front of Maya, "It's gonna be okay. You're gonna be okay. We're not gonna let anything happen to you." His gaze shifted to Gabriella, "Will we?"

Biting her bottom lip, Gabriella hesitated before reassuring him, not knowing what a big lie she was telling to one of her closest friends, "Of course."

"Jasper, in thirty minutes all backup power gets diverted for species continuity. That means Level Five for life support and security. Radiation will seep everywhere else." Maya explained shakily, "I can't go to Level Five without being shot in the head."

"Guys," Bellamy cleared his throat, giving Jasper a sympathetic look, "We need to keep moving."

"We'll get you your hazmat suit. Extra oxygen. Enough to last until your engineers get the power on."

Maya's face only turned sadder at Jasper's attempts to find another way to keep her alive, "Then what? You think Cage Wallace is gonna let me live here after that?"

"Then I'll get you my bone marrow." Gabriella chimed in, not realizing the words have escaped her mouth until they already did, "We're gonna get you the hazmat suit and then after this is over, we're gonna make Abby do the treatment. You're not dying. Not if I can help it."

Her statement didn't leave any room for argument. Maya was important to Jasper and Jasper was important to her, which meant she wasn't gonna let her die without putting up a fight and doing anything she could to stop it.

"𝘈𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. 𝘊𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘴 𝘖𝘯𝘦 𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘪𝘯 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵."

"Or we kill Cage." Jasper said, surprising everyone with the suggestion.

This was one of the times Gabriella really hated the world for putting a seventeen year old as pure as Jasper Jordan in these types of situations.

The intense atmosphere was cut off by a loud gunshot down the hall, followed by a woman screaming.

"Monty." both Gabriella and Jasper voiced at the same time, all four of them immediately running down the hall and towards the source of the gunshot and scream.

"Slow down." Bellamy ordered, tugging on Gabriella's wrist and pulling her back to his side, "Be ready for anything."

Swallowing, Gabriella raised her gun and took slow steps around the corner, furrowing her eyebrows when she was met with an unconscious body of an unfamiliar woman.

"It's Mrs. Ryan." Maya told them.

"She was hiding the last twelve." Bellamy realized, making Gabriella's eyes widen in realization her friends were found by Cage's guards.

"Where'd they take them?"

"It's gotta be Level Five." Maya answered Jasper's question.

Gabriella and Jasper simultaneously moved towards the elevator, ready to march into Level Five without hesitation, only to have Bellamy stand in front of them and block their way.

"Get out of my way, Bellamy." Gabriella said with a harsh glare, not in the mood for another power struggle.

"Every person inside this mountain is on Level Five. Every soldier." Bellamy explained, staring right into her eyes, him too refusing to back down and let her get killed.

"Jasper and Ella are right."

Maya's words made Gabriella's eyebrows shoot up in surprise, "We are?"

"After lockdown, it will be almost impossible to get them out. It's now or never." Maya added.

Her words made Gabriella smirk and turn back to Bellamy, her pointed stare practically screaming 𝘐 𝘵𝘰𝘭𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘰.

"Alright." Bellamy sighed, clenching his jaw, "But how do we even get── "

His question was cut off when a door behind them creaked open, making Gabriella, Bellamy and Jasper raise their guns in defense, only to gasp in surprise and lower them down when they realized the person was Monty.

"Monty you fucking──" Gabriella's expression turned into one of concern when she noticed the tears in his eyes, "What happened? What's wrong?"

"They know about the grounders." he explained shakily, "That's why I hid. I── I didn't do anything to save the others. I let them kill Mrs. Ryan."

"Monty." Gabriella sighed, crunching down on the floor next to him and putting a hand on his shoulders, "This happening 𝘪𝘴𝘯'𝘵 your fault."

"What do you mean they know about the grounders?" Bellamy cut in and Gabriella instantly gave him a side glare.

"It's on a soldier's walkie." Monty said in defeat, "They're going for the Harvest Chamber."

"If they take it, we lose everyone." Bellamy realized, gaping in surprise.

"Fuck." Gabriella cursed with wide eyes, being the first to start moving by tugging Monty up from the floor and running down the hall and straight back into the lab where they bleed out the grounders ── the Harvest Chamber.

-

"You have got to be kidding me." Gabriella scoffed to herself, staring at the Harvest Chamber in disbelief.

There was no one inside.

All the cages were empty and their friends and the grounders were nowhere to be found.

Besides Vincent laying on the floor, dead.

Maya instantly ran to her father's body, her cries filling the empty room.

While Gabriella felt bad for the girl, that wasn't where her concerns were at but she still swore she was gonna cry out of frustration.

There was a war going on just outside the Mountain and half of their army was gone.
