Hiccup

Pain. It was the only thing which coursed through each and every one of my bones as my eyes tried to open. I didn't want to open them because I knew then the pain would increase but I didn't have much of a choice as stood in front of me I could see the faint outline of Viggo. I could make out his arms were held behind his back, his back was held up straight and his gaze was locked onto me. The burning of his eyes took effect more on me more than the pain from what I just endured did. With great hesitance, my hand slowly pressed into the bed as I pushed my body to sit upright, I could feel the scars on my back rip ever so slightly from the slow movement. I took a deep breath and lifted my head to face the disgrace on the man's face; my heart was beating rapidly because my body knew that it would not be able to take in anymore damage. The move that I took was stupid and reckless, I know that, but I also know that I want desperately out of here, I saw a chance and I took it, like anyone else would have done, though I must recognise the situation I placed myself in. The chestnut in the man's eyes killed me within as I tried to stay calm "I thought we were past all this Hiccup," yes, this wasn't the first time I tried getting out, probably about my fourth time at least now and each time I would get caught even though this time I honestly thought I had a chance, but I was wrong.

I lowered my head feeling not shame for trying to leave, but shame because I failed miserably. "Though I hope this time you have learnt your lesson and won't try it again, am I understood?" I felt his eyes scorch under my skin even though I wasn't looking at him. Immediately I felt my head lifted back and the blade of Ryker's weapon was back against my throat as he made me look into Viggo's death glare. I coughed before I answered him my voice hoarse and sore from the screaming I yelled earlier "I understand, I won't do it again...I swear," my head was released as was the blade from my neck and I could hear myself heavily panting. Either the men nodded at each other or at me I wasn't entirely sure before they slammed the door to the tower shut. Last time I had done this they left me in manacles so I wouldn't try again but this time they didn't and I don't believe it was because they trusted my word but because I couldn't move at all. I could feel the scars on my back, the scars trailing up my arm from under the tunic and the punches and kicks to the face leaving mini scars from corner to corner and it always led back to the question, how did I end up here and why?

I lowered myself carefully back down into the bed lifting myself onto my side so my back wouldn't scorch or rip more than it already was. I didn't have anything better to do so I adjusted the tattered material of the pillow for my head to rest on before reaching for the thin material to cover my damaged body. It didn't take long for dreariness to take over my body, I felt completely weak useless as I lay there, every time I went to close my eyes someone would walk past the door and peak on through to see the un-changed movement of the broken boy inside the room, either my timing was terrible for trying to fall asleep or they were making sure that I didn't, either way all I knew was that I needed it and soon it would take over just like it always does. The more my mind was paying attention to the noise outside, the harder it was becoming for me to shut my eyes and take in the darkness. The flick of my hair fell down against my face tickling my forehead every time my head fidgeted around to try and fall asleep; the more it did, more my mind was distracted from the business outside the door and I eventually fell into a deep sleep.

Blazing light shone through the window in the room and the untameable noise coming from the outside awoke me from my sleep and the door to my personal home was opened revealing Ryker. He didn't hesitate to storm over to me at full speed making my heart pound once again. His over sized hand took hold of my arm lifting me up from the bed before tightly securing manacles around my wrists; I looked at up him confused and scared at what was happening. The noise outside was getting louder and louder as my weight was dragged out from the room by Ryker's hand. I was dragged down the stairs with each step I lost my footing as Ryker's speed would increase with each step he took; then suddenly we stopped. "Viggo what are you doing?!" Ryker demanded at his brother as we both stood outside Viggo's office; his grip expanded in tightness as his hand clutched hold of my arm. I peeked into Viggo's office as I watched him collect item after item but the one thing that stood out to me the most was this cylinder object, it contained markings I'd never seen, it looked old but at the same time new but still fascinating.

I peeked in closer my eyes expanding more on the object, only for my head to be pushed back hard from Ryker's other hand to face the other direction, so I kept my head lowered and paid no more attention. "Let's go," Viggo's voice spoke with certainty and a little rush; he marched out of the room with Ryker on his tail with me dragged along from the back. We soon entered the outside as I could feel the wind and air hit against my skin but also the heat radiating away from the fires that had surrounded the compound. At least I now knew where the light was coming from. Viggo and Ryker walked us through the debris, I tugged every now and again from the pull and harsh pressure Ryker would use to drag me through the fire but it only made the situation worse. My head would spin taking in all the surroundings the best I could and then my eyes landed. I could see them amidst the fire blaze, the figure of someone staring at me as I was dragged along the debris. As I moved so would their gaze, they watched my every movement as my eyes stayed locked on that person but then the picture was gone as I was pulled away from the flames and down into the docks where the ships lay.

I was made to follow the men as we descended inside the ships under deck; as we walked down the corridor of the ship I noticed dragons were caged upon cage suggesting they were taken from the compound to the ship before what was going on outside actually happened. But before we entered the room down the end of the corridor, the final cage he lay in, his tail wrapped around himself shielding his eye sight away from any guard who walked past. His head perked up when he heard the metal walk on by past his cell, he roared loudly when he saw me his eyes diluted, looking happy to see me but I shook my head, nodding my head towards Ryker and his brother. Toothless knew what I was on about so ducked his head immediately as Ryker's head spun round to glare at me. The door was slammed behind me as soon as I was the last one to enter the room; Viggo headed straight to his desk leaving me to stand alone with Ryker with my head lowered. I could see from the tilt of my head Viggo's direction of nod as Ryker pulled me to a room that was on the side of Viggo's ship office – never a good thing to have. I looked behind me a fraction to see Viggo's attention paid elsewhere like usual and I was put through the usual routine after we had to depart from island after island. Ryker forced me down on the rickety old bed that was placed in the room before connecting a chain to the manacles around my wrists; he pulled on them to make sure that were secure before staring me in the eye and walking out so I was alone once more.

I lay my helpless body back down onto the bed and placed my hands under my head to use them as a sort of pillow. Every time this would happen I would lay here and think and drift off into nothingness but this time my mind wandered back to the person gazing at me amongst the flames. I had no idea who they were but I knew that they were probably the cause of the moving from island to island. I did find though as well as this half the dragons would missing each time we would move so I settled my thinking on that they were the reason being. The journey was rocky as ever, the waves crashed against the ship reacting against the storm which made the ship tip from side to side, but here I lay motionless as ever and let them do their thing as I could hear the men run around and settle everything in place. The wind would cry out against the tears that would fall and the cries of the men would get louder before the shouts came from Viggo himself telling them to shut up and get back to work. I felt like the weather outside reflected the emotions I felt within myself so I used this as some sort of comfort and enjoyed the cries of the men and the anger the leader was feeling knowing I was in heaven – some might say. But of course everything does not last forever and the emotion would end and everything goes back to normal, so I once again, lay in complete misery and waited for the ship to dock.

Viggo

The rush to get out into the open and to a new island was immeasurable but we had made it with everything still intact – thankfully. Though I had something more serious on my mind more than our retreat. I could sense my brother had the same queries as I did and I knew he must speak his mind. "Speak brother before it takes over," I lifted my gaze up towards him as stood outside the door of our father's captive. His arms were crossed and his eyebrows were furrowed. "Why is he still alive when everybody believes him to be dead?" I pushed myself up from the desk to make my way next to his side; both our eyes landed through the barred window as we both inspected the boy asleep on the bed. He doesn't do trouble only when he sees a chance of escape but his problem was he was getting increasingly smart whether he knew it or not and the sooner he finds out the better chance he would have in getting out. "The reason he still lives dear brother is because of his intelligence, if you watch how he works you will find it's very beneficial and can be very useful to us if we use it but I do fear that this will get the better of us and when he finds out he will use it to his advantage."

"So let's just kill him now while we still have the chance," Ryker growled with annoyance "No brother, we watch, we observe and record before we do anything but one thing we make sure of is he doesn't escape. He's becoming more observant in what we do," I started a new conversation to do with the boy, I opened the door of the room and walked over to his side as Ryker followed my lead "So we have to make sure he's more unaware," I looked at my brother as his furrow deepened "And how do you suppose we do that brother," he arms tightened in its crossed formation as he looked unsure what I was planning "Fetch me a cup of water and I'll show you dear brother," so he walked out the room before returning with a cup of water placing it within my grasp. Out from my pocket I released a small vile of liquid and poured it into the water and placing it down next to the boys bed. "He needs to be sedated wherever he goes so he can take nothing in and never understand what goes on understood brother," Ryker nodded in agreement as we both left the room locking the door behind us. I sat back at the desk and returned to my own work.
