I knew that someone was comng towards me, but there was nothing I could do. I fell face first in the leaves, and I let myself stay there. I had given up. There was nothing else I could do. I closed my eyes and forgot about the world around me.

When I first woke up, it took me a minute to remember where I was and what had happened. I lay in the leaves, astounded that I was still alive. I felt a slight tickling on my arm. I figured it was probably a bug, so I swatted at it. It yelped and crashed through the leaves away from me. Definitely not a bug.

I summoned the strangth to lift my head and look around, and what I saw shocked me. I was in the same spot in the woods, all alone except for a small gray wolf. She looked at me with curiosity and hesitantly stepped forward. I immedieatly felt bad, knowing that I must have hit her when she was sniffing at my arm.

I sat up and and faced the wolf. "Hey, it's okay girl." What was I doing? I was talking to a wolf. She could literally tear my throught out at any moment.

"It's okay. Come here." It was official. I was either going to do something amazing or I was incredibly stupid.

The wolf took a few tentative steps towards me, and I coul feel myself inwardly cheering. Maybe I wasn't so stupid. Maube this would turn out well.

I sat very still and called out to her again. "Come on. It's okay. I'm not going to hurt you, I promie. Before was a mistake."I tried to keep my voice soft and even.

As I was talking, she cocked her head and looked at me, her face filled with curiosity. She took a few more steps toward me, and  it was all I could do to keep from jumping up and celebrating.

We repeated this process for I while. I would coax the wolf to come closer, and the she would come a few feet closer, her confidence growing each time. Now, she was onlly a few feet away. Slowly, very slowly, I reached my hand toward her.

Fueled by her curiosity, she took a few final steps and closed the distance between us. She stretched her neck, and I could feel the cold moist feeling of her nose on my hand. I very carefully reached over with my other hand to pet her, and watching to see if she would flinch away. She didn't move.

I let my hand rest on her head, and she just kept staring at me with the same curious stare. I knew right then that she would never leave me, and I knew that I would never leave her. We would be together forever.

I looked her in the eye, and she held my gaze. "I am going to call you Night's Secret, for you are the color of the moonlight, and I never knew you were there."
