This is an AU where Steve when he was a kid was adopted by the Arch-Illager after he was found bullied and abused and since Steve knew Herobrine prior but he kept it a secret as he promised Herobrine he would.

Herobrine decided to give Steve [on his 13th birthday] a plushie which was himself in a brown hood and scarf when disguised around others Steve cherishes the Herobrine plushie a lot and always keeps it with him and makes sure it's never damaged.

The Arch-Illager asks Steve a few days after Steve's 14th birthday if Steve would take over once he was gone and let's Steve decide his decision overtime.

Steve was secured by a group of adventurers who were trying to free the people from the Arch-Illager and since they found out in messages that Steve was the Arch-Illager's son and they thought they could use it as a way to make the Arch-Illager stop but it only angered him to the point where he and the adventurers battled.

One of the Adventurers learned Steve's history of issues that were not in Steve control and decided to ask Steve if he would like to be a free adventurer but Steve was hesitant about it but went along with training and such with this adventurer.

Once they make it back to the Arch-Illager's castle to try to force the Arch-Illager to surrender Steve decided to secretly wink to the Arch-Illager which made the Arch-Illager think his son was using the group to return and decided not to surrender and fight the adventurers only to be defeated but before his death noticed Steve reach down and pick up the orb that immediately used Steve's anger,fear,sadness, and turmoil as fuel to use Steve as a vessel at this point the Adventurers plead and try to get Steve to drop the orb/Staff but due to Steve starting to lose control of his mental state yells out no and demanded them to leave to which the adventurers now knew Steve was scared and very much not acting like his normal self so they fled but they promised they would return to free him of the orb's hold.

Steve in his mind was grateful that the adventurers wouldn't give up on him but the orb was making him lose his faith and gratefulness to become hateful and power hungry but when confronted with the one adventurer Steve was conflicted greatly and doesn't want to harm the adventurer so through the anger the orb made Steve feel and had no control over Steve was able to cry and gain a little control to cry for help but so far it hasn't been successful but since Steve cares about this adventure the orb found it difficult to kill them.

Now for a little bit of a theory... what if the orb uses the anger and feeling of belonging as fuel to control or manipulate the one holding the orb?

If you guys haven't seen the ending of Minecraft Dungeons I won't spoil it for you but this is just a little theory of mine hope you guys don't mind...
