Josh's POV

Nico led me down the hill towards the couple. "I thought Athena and Poseidon were rivals? Something about Athens?" I asked. "Yeah. They fought to take control of Athens. Athena won. Poseidon lost." he said vainly. I let him go back to Will and strolled on over to the couple. "Percy, this is Josh, child of Hermes." the girl called Hazel said. I didn't have any good experiences with girls. Especially when I got bullied by them. We skipped the formalities and gave each other a high-five.

"Josh, have you met Annabeth?" he asked me. "No, but if you're asking me to back the chariot up, I can do that. I won't move in on your girl. Besides, she's blond and scary. I wouldn't approach her if I valued life." i said disdainfully. He called Annabeth over. "What did you say about me?" she said, her voice dangerously quiet. I decided that I wanted to take a shower. I ran all the way there. Totally no angry blond chasing me. Nice angry blond. 

I then got introduced to everyone. The pink-haired girl was Lavinia. The rest of the names blurred by. See, the guards told me that I was ADHD, so I had really bad attention problems. After, we went to the praetoria to meet the praetors. As soon as we entered, a big burly Asian man stood up and ran to Hazel. They both ran and kissed each other. It was actually kinda sweet, like an old-timey couple. Still hated love. Ya'know, just so you guys know. Then they both sat down. "Who're you?" the Asian man said. I know Asians because I am one. My mom came from the Phillipines. She was a flight attendant until she had me. I always wondered why she liked flying. Turns out, Hermes; sorry Mercury, had a pith helmet that flew.

"Josh Devera, son of Mercury; Hermes, whichever you prefer." I said casually. "Middle name? We need your actual full name." he asked. "Charles..." I murmured. I always hated that middle name. I wanted to change it. After, they said I was appointed on probatio until proven otherwise in combat blah blah blah. I ran outside and started to sob. I ran far away, until I saw a sight that calmed me. There was a gaming device; more importantly a Switch. I snatched it out of the back of the truck and ran behind a building. I was lost in New Rome, but at least I got away from everyone. I needed time to think. I lost everything when my mom had to work abroad as an OFW(Overseas Filipino Worker). And now they're asking me to transition so easily? It can make a guy crack at the seams. They would never understand that.

All of a sudden, a voice made me jump in the middle of my Smash Bros game. It was Nico. "Can I join you?" he asked. "Sure." I said half sobbing. I won by two stocks with my Pichu while Nico's Ganon got gimped at 0 twice. It was this matchup that made me smile a bit. We shook hands, said GG, and we walked back together. "How'd you know where to find me?" I asked. "The shadows in New Rome are kinda like gateways to me. I can see who's on the other side of them." he replied. I wondered where Nico learned his powers, until of course, I bumped into ANOTHER GIRL. She had a straight hair with red highlights in it, glasses, a green jacket, and some Adidas Superstars. "Oh... Uhhh... sorry?" I said. She dusted her jeans off, then straightened her glasses. "It's okay!" she said cheerfully. I hadn't seen a girl this cheerful since... my mom. "Josh. New guy, son of Mercury." I said. "Fiona, daughter of Minerva." We shook hands and walked away.

But somewhere within, my heart gave way to reasoned feeling. A feeling I hadn't felt since 8th grade.
