Sans POV

I was in my sentry station near the ruins as usual, asleep, with absolutely nothing to do. That's fine by me though, gives me more time to take a nap. Ever since king Asgore started collecting human souls with the help of the Royal Guards, my brother, Papyrus, has been dying to join them. For him to join the Royal Guards however is for him to capture an actual human. So now its been his number one goal to find and capture a human, thing is he dragged me along with his plan. He makes me stay guard in this sentry station and wait for a human to pass by to capture them. But I love my brother, so I guess I'm willing to help him.

"SANS!!!"

Speak of the devil. I looked up and saw Papyrus' towering figure staring down at me with an annoyed expression on his face with his hands on this hips.

"What's up bro?" I asked, lazily.

"YOU KNOW VERY WELL 'WHAT'S UP' BROTHER!" He exclaimed. "YOU FELL ASLEEP AGAIN! HOW ARE WE SUPPOSE TO CAPTURE A HUMAN IF YOU KEEP FALLING ASLEEP ON THE JOB?!"  He says as he stomps his foot repeatedly on the ground.

"Well ya know how much of a lazybones I am." I respond as I sat properly on my chair.

"BUT I NEED YOUR HELP FINDING A HUMAN SO THAT I CAN FINALLY BECOME A MEMBER OF THE ROYAL GUARD! UGH! DO I HAVE TO DO EVERYTHING MYSELF?!" He huffs in frustration.

"You should chill out bro. You always work your self to the bone." I winked as I ended with a pun.

"SANS! NOW IS NOT THE TIME FOR YOUR RIDICULOUS PUNS!" He says in annoyance.

"Sorry bro. I was just trying to tickle your funny bone." I end again with a pun.

"OH MY GOD! JUST GET BACK TO WORK! I HAVE TO RE-CALIBRATE SOME OF MY PUZZLES AND I SUGGEST YOU DO THE SAME." He said before running of.

When I knew he couldn't see me I stood up with my bony hands in my pockets and walked towards the big door containing the ruins for my 'break'. I continued to walk as my mind started to be consumed by my thoughts.

Seven. Asgore needs seven human souls. Six. Asgore has six human souls. Once he gets one final human soul, he will free us all from the barrier. Now, I've never seen a real human for my self, but Asgore would always tell us stories of how ruthless, violent, and murderous every human he's encountered was. They would attack him with no mercy. "Never trust a human." He would tell everyone. But a human hasn't fallen down for a few years and monsters have started losing hope for ever leaving the underground. I continued to walk until I reached the door of the ruins. I sat behind the rock that contained Doctor Alphys hidden cameras to rest alone and not be disturbed.

As I sat down I heaved a sigh of relief and closed my eyes, my thoughts consuming me again. I wonder what it would be like to actually meet a real life human. Are they really as bad as Asgore makes them? They say it only takes one monster soul and one human soul to escape the barrier, why does Asgore what to collect seven human souls?

*CREAK*

My eyes instantly shot opened as I heard a creaking noise. Something happened that I never thought would happen. The doors to the ruins... they opened.

My left eye socket started glowing cyan blue, ready to attack if needed. I silently and carefully peered over the rock and was surprise to see a human, but they weren't anything at all like what I imagined. From what I see they seemed to be a human female. She wore a blue sweater with purple stripes with long sleeves, only her hands sticking out, a darker shade of blue shorts, and black boots. She has shoulder length chocolate brown hair and hazel brown eyes. Not knowing what to do I decided to watched and see what the human would do.

She slowly walked out the doors of the ruins and closed the door behind her. As soon as the door closed a gust of wind blew hard, making her shiver as she pulled the collar of her sweater over her mouth. She started walking, making the snow below her feet crunch with every step she took. She looked around the forest, confused, lost, and scared showed in her face. I looked at her eyes as they frantically shifted back and fort, they look so... so...

Innocent...

Then snow started to fall. The human looked up at the sky, a small smile slowly started to form on her face. She removed the collar of her sweater from her mouth and stuck her pink tongue out, catching a snow flake as it melted on contact. She smiled in content as she covered her mouth again and continued to walk. As she got farther I decided to follow her, staying hidden behind the trees. She continued to go further and further, completely unaware of my presence. She soon came across a big piece of a tree branch. She reached out with one hand to try and picked it up, but was barely able to lift it an inch of the ground before it dropped back to the ground. I can hear her huff in frustration as she looked at the stick, her hazel eyes filling with determination. Again she let go of her collar and grabbed the branch again, lifting it with both arms and used all her force. She was able to get it a few inches of the ground before she drooped the stick and fell backwards.

"Ompf!" I faintly here her as she just laid down on the snow.

She just laid there for a sec before she started to move her hands and feet up and down on the snow repeatedly as she softly giggled. She stood up as looked at her snow angel that she created and smiled brightly. I hadn't realize that my eye socket was no longer glowing blue and I was smiling as I watched her innocent face glisten with happiness. I had to admit that was kinda cute. Huh. I never thought I'd find a human cute. Another gust of wind blew and she shivered once again before she continued to walk.

Hmm... Let me try something.

My left eye socket glowed blue once again as I used my magic to snap the branch in half. The human quickly turned around as she stared in horror at the now broken branch. She back around and started walking again, her pace increasing. I continued to follow her with the amount of speed, making sure I wasn't going to lose her. I accidentally stepped on a twig, making a loud crunch as I stepped on it. The human jumped, shocked, she let out a small squeak as she turned around and scanned the area. I hid behind a bush as she continued to scan the area.

"W-who's there..?" Her soft and gentle voice asked, shakily.

She hesitantly turned back around and just continued to walk.  I decided to come out of my hiding to meet this human, I pulled my hood over my head so she wouldn't see my face. She was about to cross the poorly made gate that my brother until she stiffened at the sound of my footsteps.

"Human." I say darkly as I stood behind her. "Don't you know how to greet a new pal? Turn around and shake my hand." I removed one of my hands out of my pocket and extended my bony hand out.

I can see her tense up as she turned around with her head hung low, her bangs falling over her eyes. She slowly extended her hand and shook my hand.

Pfffffffffffffttttttt...

I lifted my hoodie up revealing my signature grin. "Heheh... The old whoopee cushion in the hand trick. It's always funny." I chuckle.

She removed her hand, revealing the small whoopee cushion on my hand. She looked up at me, her eyes filled with curiosity, but she then cracked a smile. She covered her mouth as she started to giggle. Aww, that's adorable, and shes so short. The top of her head reaches right below my chin.

"Anyways, your a human, right?"

She timidly  nods, her hands still covering her mouth.

"That's hilarious." I say.

She tilts her head to the side, looking at me questionably.

"I'm Sans. Sans the skeleton." I introduced properly.

"I'm F-Frisk the human..." She says softly.

I noticed my brother starting to approached my sentry station. My eyes widened as I realized that if my brother noticed the human, he would try to capture her. I have to act quickly! She noticed the worried expression on my face, she walked closer to me and tugged the sleeve of my jacket. I looked down at her, her innocent eyes looked at me with concern.

"Sans... Are y-you okay?" She shutters.

"No time to explain! But quickly, go through this poorly made gate thingy!" I say rapidly as I push her through the gate.

"Meep!" She squeaked out.

"Okay, no go behind that conveniently shaped lamp!" I pointed to a lamp a few feet away.

She nodded and quickly hid behind the lamp, just before my brother arrived. My brother started to babble on about how lazy I was and how we really needed to find and capture a human. Upon hearing that, Frisk shot me a look of worry with wide eyes. I shot her a reassuring look as I then looked back at my brother. During the conversation I decided to say a pun, earning an annoyed groan from my brother. I then heard a soft giggle coming from the human. I quickly glanced over to the lamp and saw Frisk's face blushed red, struggling to contain her laughter as she covered her mouth, a big smile plastered on her face. I felt something flutter in my chest as I saw her smile at my jokes.

"UMMM... SANS ARE YOU ALRIGHT?" Papyrus suddenly asks.

I snapped out of my thoughts and looked back at my brother. "W-what are you t-talking about? Of course I'm fine." I reply, rubbing the back of my head.

"THEN WHY IS YOUR SOUL GLOWING?"

I looked down at my soul and saw that it was glowing a bright cyan blue.

"Oh, well that just means I'm... Hungry! Ya, I'm gonna go to Grillby's soon and grab some grub." I say as natural as possible.

"UGH, GREASE." He says in disgust. "JUST MAKE SURE NOT TO TAKE TO LONG! A HUMAN COULD COME AT ANY MOMENT! I WILL GO BACK TO FIXING MY PUZZLES. NYEH HEH HEH HEH HEH!" He then runs off.

I sighed in relief. When he was far enough I gestured for the human to come out. "You can come on out kiddo."

She hesitantly came out of hiding and walked towards me.

"Sorry ya had to hear us rambling for so long." I say as she's finally in front of me.

"Are you guys gonna capture me?" She suddenly said, rubbing her arm.

I stared at her slightly shocked, this is the first time she talked to me without shuttering. She stared back at me, uncertainty lingering in her eyes. I couldn't blame her, I was planning to capture her for Papyrus. I've always thought humans were ruthless and soulless creatures that will kill without a second thought. Frisk was different. She's to innocent to even hurt a little whimsun. Now I have to gain her trust.

"No don't worry. Papyrus isn't really that threatening, even if he tries to be." I responded, putting my hands back in my pockets.

"How ca-can I trust you?"

"You can tell I'm lying. We skeletons are terrible liars." I say.

"Y-you are?" She asks, suspiciously.

"Ya. Everyone can see right through us." I joked, winking.

She did her best to resisted the urge to smile by covering her mouth, but you could see the sparkle of happiness in her eyes.

"Besides, I stopped telling fibias a long time ago."

She still resisted to even crack up a smile, hands still over her mouth, determined not to laugh.

"What's the matter with you? You look like your having a bit of a frisky situation." I joked once again.

You can tell she was reaching her limit, but she still wouldn't laugh. Dang this girls determined. But so am I.

"I don't know if I should put a little more backbone into these jokes, but then again it is tibia expected that I'll get lazy and not try as hard to make a skele-ton of them... Dang... I'm such a bonehead."

She then burst out laughing and fell on the ground. She just laid down on the snow, laughing her heart out, holding her stomach as she rolled around in the snow. She's the only creature that's actually laughed that hard at any of my puns. I'm not complaining, her laugh was cute. She slowly started to calm down. She then sat up and looked at me, smiling brightly at me, her face flushed red and snow on her hair.

"Ya need a hand ?" I offer my hand out to help her up.

She giggled again and took my hand as I helped her up.

"But seriously, my brother is harmless." I say.

She nods. Its obvious she still doesn't fully trust me, but at least she trusts me enough to listen to me.

"Come here for a sec kiddo." I grabbed her arm and brought her closer to me.

I brought her closer to me and started to brush of the snow on her head, her hair was soft to the touch as I continued to brush the snow of her hair. I then noticed that her face was red due to the coldness of the environment as she shivered, her arms crossed over her chest. Oh ya. She's a human, humans aren't use to such a cold environment.

"Achoo!" She let out a small squeak of a sneeze.

Another gust of wind blew, even stronger than the lasts one. Suddenly I was engulfed in as tight hug. I looked down and saw Frisk gripping my white shirt, shivering as she whimpered. A small smile appeared on my face as I wrapped my jacket around her, my face slightly tinted blue.

"You cold kiddo?" I asked.

She nodded vigorously, gripping my shirt even tighter and nuzzles closer to me. I lifted her up and turned her around, closed up my jacket as she grips on to the neck of the jacket, and hugs her closer.

"Ya feel warmer in there, kiddo?" I ask, looking down at her.

"Mhmm!" She smiles, snuggling closer to my chest, her face still blushing red.

"I guess that's what ya get for only wearing a regular sweater and shorts." I teased.

I hear her huff as she inflates her cheeks. Well I can't leave here, she's so cold and helpless. She would easily get hurt if she were to travel alone, especially with Asgore only needing one more human soul for all monsters to exit the underground. I have to help her, I won't let Asgore kill an innocent human. With that in mind, I started to walk. Frisk looked up at me, curiosity filled her eyes.

"W-where are you t-ta-taking m-m-me?" She asks with her soft voice, slightly worried.

"Well I can't leave ya alone here, now can I?" I respond. "I'll take ya to Snowdin and you can stay in the inn." I say reassuringly.

"Oh o-okay..."

"Okay so it won't take that long to get to Snowdin. Probably about half an hour on foot if we start now. We'll also probably run into my brother so don't be scared when we see him and-"

I suddenly heard light snoring. I looked down again and saw Frisk sleeping soundly, a small smile on her face, which put a smile on my face. As I continued to walk I held her closer to me. Till the ends of the earth, and as long as I live...

Asgore will not get this human...
