"You're... real" he whispers, lashes fluttering as he stares at her in awe. The look upon his face is so heartbreaking that she's afraid to utter a single word, fearful that this was all her imagination and she would find him unable to see her once more.

Just as quickly, the tears come again, pooling from his eyes as he hiccups a sob. "Eun H-Hye", the broken sound of his voice brings tears to her own eyes. "How is this possible!?".

"I don't know" she cries out, still conscious of the way his hands cup her face gently, "I woke up alone in your room years ago with no memory of how I had gotten there and I've been stuck here ever since" she sniffs.

"You've been here all this time?" his eyes widen, innocently like a puppy. She nods, resisting the urge to lean forward and place a gentle kiss upon his nose.

"Why haven't you shown yourself to me before? Why only now?", he looks hurt, and panic flares in her gut as she shakes her head, "I tried!" she shouts, startling him. "I yelled at you for days, followed you around, begging and crying for you to notice me but you never did".

"Then why can I see you now?".

She stares into his eyes, lost for words. She didn't even know herself how this was possible. "I... I don't know. One night I found myself able to touch you but I wasn't sure if you could see me".

"Touch me?" this makes her blush, looking anywhere but him as she pulls away from him, missing the warmth of his skin already. "I- I mean, not in that way" she stutters, catching the way his eyes glimmer ever so slightly in a mischievous manner, a smile playing at his lips.

"You know what I mean!!" she rolls her eyes.

He huffs a laugh and she looks over, finding his eyes puffy and she wonders briefly if she appears the same. They're stuck like that, sitting upon the floor, moonlight splaying itself out before them, staring into each other's eyes. There isn't any discomfort or awkwardness, just pure adoration that fills her.

"I've missed you, so much", he speaks, breaking the silence.

She smiles, heart fluttering, "I've always been here with you".

Just as quickly, the smile slips past his lips and a look she can't recognize settles upon his face, marring his soft features. Something akin to anxiety takes over, emitting from his once calm aura. "Tae? What's wrong?".

"Hye-" he hesitates, biting his lip as his eyes glance about anxiously, "do you- do you remember what happened to you?".

Her own anxiety grows at the look upon his face. He knew. She would finally find out what happened to her. "No" she breathes out as calmly as she can, and though she already knew she was dead, it made no difference. The fear was still the same, what was her fate?

Taehyung merely scoots closer, holding his hands out towards hers as he waits. She blinks down at his palms, large and scattered with creases, the same creases she had a habit of tracing her fingers along when they were younger.

Calmly she slides her hands over his palms and intertwines their fingers, the warmth only slightly soothing her anxiety. He's shaking, as he lifts her hands to his face and places a soft kiss upon each of her hands. The gesture makes her blush.

"Hye," he begins, she looks into fear-ridden eyes. "Y-you... you were in an accident" he continues. "It all happened so fast," he says voice cracking, "one minute you were in front of m-me and you were yelling and I was yelling. We were fighting over some insignificant shit and then next you walked away".

His eyes are haunted, far away from here as tears pool at the corners of them. "I called out to you, I begged you not to go but you were so angry you didn't listen... and I tried to warn you, I tried to grab you" he's hyperventilating now, tears spilling over and forming droplets on their closed hands. "I ran as fast as I could- but- but you were so far out of reach" he sobs, squeezing her hands. Her stomach is churning in anxiety.

"T-the car-" he gasps for air as he continues, "it couldn't stop fast enough, you didn't even have time to register". Her stomach sinks, eyes stinging.

"There was so much b-blood" he whispers as his eyes shut tightly, "you couldn't breathe, you were so cold".

"Tae" she mumbles, failing to pull him from the memory that would forever haunt him.

"Your eyes, they begged me, they were in agony" he continues, and she winces at how tightly he's squeezing her hands. "Tae, you're hurting me".

"I screamed, I cried for help but no one could do anything fast enough" his whispers get louder as his eyes remain fixated elsewhere. "The blood, it was on my hands, it was everywhere, I tried to wipe it away, I tried to clean it".

She tries to pull her hands away but his grip was unrelenting.

"You were quiet, you stopped moving... your eyes," he says, turning to look into hers terrified,

"they were empty. I called your name repeatedly but you- you wouldn't answer me!!" he screams finally releasing the tight hold on her hands as he grabs his head in pain.

"It's my fault Hye!! It's all my fault!" he wails, rocking back and forth. Her hands ache, heart sinking in despair at the sight of him. He blamed himself for years because of something that was far out of his control. She recalls him accusing Jungkook of hating him, was this it? This was what had severed their lifelong friendship. Jungkook has left, running away in his grief leaving Taehyung to drown in his guilt.

"It's not your fault," she says gently, though he doesn't hear her. Sadness fills her heart, this was what had happened, though it still leaves her with questions, for now, she would accept this.

Reaching over she tugs his hands from his head and wraps her arms around his trembling, sobbing figure, pulling him into a warm embrace. His tears are seeping into the fabric of her clothes but she ignores it, carding her fingers through his hair as he sobs.

They stay like that for a while, rocking gently back and forth until his cries subdue into soft sniffles. She's reminded of the days when she would feel sad, crying into his shoulder and the way he would smile softly, interlacing their fingers and pulling her along to his father's study. There he would sit her down at the grand piano and play her that familiar tune whilst singing that beautiful song. Their song.

It always brought her a sense of comfort, made her feel at home and after all, he was her home. Parting her lips and closing her eyes, she rests her chin atop his head gently and begins singing.

"Will you stay by my side

Will you promise me.

Your light touches, I forget reality at once"

"Don't think of anything

Don't say anything, not even a word.

Just give me a smile"

"From afar, I steal glances; if we touch hands, will I lose you?

You shine in this pitch darkness that is the butterfly effect

Your light touches, I forget the reality at once"

Pulling away from her embrace, his red-rimmed eyes look into hers in awe, painfully raw and sad yet filled with utter adoration. She smiles, placing a gentle kiss upon his cheek, "it was never your fault".

He opens his mouth to protest but she cuts him off with a frown, "you listen to me Kim Taehyung, what happened was not your fault, it was the universe, it was fate, it happened and it's over but I don't want you living like this, holding this pain in your heart".

He remains silent, sadness still in his eyes and she knows wounds don't heal so easily, she knows the depth of pain is relentless but for now, she thinks, poking at his left cheek and successfully earning a small smile from him, for now, she would be the moon in his darkness, lighting his path to better days.
