This is a traditional, critique-based writing group for serious, mature science fiction writers.

In order to become a member, your story must be science fiction, your writing must be polished and post-secondary level of English, and you must genuinely want to improve your craft and make your best story possible.

Whether your goal is #1 in the sci-fi hotlist, self-publishing or traditional publishing, we're all here to help each other make it happen.

Although we aim to create an open, supportive space, please don't join this group expecting us to praise your story. Ultimately we're here to bring our writing up to publishing standards. This often means focusing on what is NOT working, rather than what IS working.

If you think you can handle other people's honest thoughts about your story, then read on!

How the group works:

You are never obliged to participate and you can  take a break whenever you need. This is a no commitment group.

There are two sessions a month in this group, so you always have 10-14 days to complete a critique. You will generally read three chapters of a featured story, and leave a critique as a comment on each chapter.

You will also leave an observation report on this Sci-Fi Writers Group workbook, and respond to the observation reports of other critics.

For each full critique you give, you earn 25 points.

The point-based system means that any effort you give now can be saved for later if you're not ready for a critique right now.

Where to Start? Critique a Featured Story!

Twice a month I post two featured stories (4 per month in total). Those stories are featured in this book -- The Sci-Fi Writers Group workbook. Look in the table of contents for the latest session and choose a featured story and give a critique.

Critique Guidelines

Critiques must be at least 1000 characters for each chapter that you critique. That's 3000 characters for a complete critique.

An observation report is also required.

PLEASE read the next chapter of this book to read more details, and some tips on how to give a great, easy critique.

Do you still want to join?

If you'd like to be a member of this writing group, please post a comment on this chapter introducing yourself, what type of sci-fi you enjoy reading and what you're working on -- your writing goals. Also, please let us know if you've participated in a critique-based writing group before.
