The sea is deceiving.
It is beautiful and aesthetic,
But it is so terribly deceiving.
It is deceiving during the day, when it reflects the blue of the sky
And shimmers with the light of the sun.
It is deceiving when the sun sets and the orange and pink clouds
Kiss the horizon and the sea and sunset become one.
It is deceiving when nighttime comes
And when the moonlight glimmers onto the water's dark surface.
It is deceiving when you tread deeper and deeper into it,
Only to face a sudden, unexpected drop.
It is deceiving when its depths draw you ever closer
To the unknown that lies below.
It is deceiving when it swallows you up completely,
Your cries for help drowning along with you.
It is deceiving when the salt water fills your lungs
And forces you to take your final breath much too soon.
It is deceiving when all that you once thought to be beautiful—
The deep blue, the waves, the sand and the seashells,
The sky, the moon and the tear-tasting water,
The sunshine and the sunset and the tiny little sea creatures
Capable of withstanding the dangers of the ocean
And all of the elements that the sea encompasses—
Can lead to a human being's most painful destruction.
