"No," Desert said, his voice cracking, "no-one can love me. I can't camouflage, my tail is deadly, no one wants to teach me, it's a lie, it's a li, IT'S ALL A LIE!" He shook his head as if he were shaking off spiderwebs and started to leave.  I jumped towards him, twining my tail around his and hugging him with my wings.

"I do love you Desert," I said, "that's not a lie."
