An AU of the 4th year ball. I'm aware it went nothing like this but I liked the idea.
Warnings: I don't think there are any. There is maybe a curse word somewhere... or two. I don't remember. I think I cursed a bit actually.
Ages: 13 or 14 if I remember correctly.

Ginny's Point of view.

I sit down, taking my, increasingly uncomfortable, shoes off.

"Sorry but I'm not sure I can dance anymore," I say, seeing the blister on my foot.

"That's fine," Neville says, sitting next to me.

"Hey, thanks for coming with me. I know you would've rather gone with someone else," Neville says, after a moment of silence.

"Hey, don't doubt yourself, I mean, I'm sure anyone would have gone with you, quite happily. You just went a little too late, you know, next time, try not to wait so long," I say.

He nods, keeping his eyes at anything but human beings around him.

"That's it! We are getting you to dance with someone you like!" I say.

"No... please don't," Neville says.

"At least tell me who you would like to dance with!" I say.

He goes red before turning his face back to its original colour.

"Hannah is... nice," he says.

I nod.

"She's pretty, isn't she?" I say.

"Yeah," Neville says.

"Come on, lets go ask!" I say.

"No! What if she doesn't want to and I embarrass myself in front of her?" Neville asks.

"Neville, if something happens, tell her I put you up to it," I say.

"I can stay to... keep you company," Neville says.

"You're not! Go! She's alone!" I say.

He sighs before getting up and walking up to Hannah. I take my sock (with an annoying hole in it) and put it around the foot with the blister.
I swear, next time, I'm not doing this. I'll just go without shoes or something, I don't care.
I look at Neville and Hannah as they start dancing, letting out a laugh at how much more attention Neville is paying to his dancing now that it's Hannah not me. I'm not quite sure whether to find it adorable or slightly offending that he crushed my toes (admittedly he apologised for doing it) even though he clearly is able to not do it.

"Hello sister dearest," Fred says, clearly attempting to mock Percy's way to speak.

"You scared me half to death! I thought you were Percy!" I say.

"I told George I have the better Percy impression!" Fred says.

I look over my shoulder to find that he is alone.

"Did your date get bored of you already, Freddie?" I ask.

"Not quite. She is in the bathroom, I say it like that because according to someone, saying that she is taking a shit is not 'proper language in front of the quests'," Fred says, making quotation marks when he is quoting.

"Saying shit in front of French people isn't proper?" I ask.

He laughs at how surprising that fact is to me.

"I think it's fine, go ask Minerva why it's not," Fred says.

"I actually think I might," I say.

"Let me run first, she'd think i taught you to curse and then just get angry at me for it or something," Fred says.

I roll my eyes.

"Scared?" I ask.

"I haven't got enough time without that detention, thank you very much for the kind offer but I would have to decline," Fred says.

I laugh, looking on at the dancing people. Within seconds, I can make out the familiar, very beautiful, blonde, dancing in the crowd, feet shoeless and all limbs going along to the rhythm rather violently with huge moves rather than the other peoples restrained moving. She would be rather eye catching even without her beauty but the nice way she looks makes her even harder to look away from as she goes along to the rhythm by spinning around, nearly never still.

"Has my little sister forgotten to tell me something?" Fred asks.

I straighten up before looking back at him.

"What do you mean by that?" I ask.

"I recognise your loving look no matter how much you grow up, little one," Fred says.

He ruffles my hair.

"And Harry is not in that direction, he's behind me. Are you moving on?" He asks.

I blush slightly at how easily I just got caught by him.

"Yeah... I am," I say.

"Whose the new guy?" He asks.

"I mean- you totally don't want to know," I say, slightly panicked.

"Is he a Slytherin?" He asks.

"No!" I say.

"I don't know why you wouldn't tell me then," he says.

"I-eh," I start.

I eye Luna quickly before turning back to Fred.

"It's not a 'he'," I say.

"Oh. Do I know her?" Fred asks.

"I just came out to you!" I say.

"Ginny. We both like women. Why would I be mad at you for liking something I like as well? Now. Who is she?" Fred asks.

"Luna," I say.

He nods, stands up and walks over to Luna, Luna then comes to sit next to me.

"Your brother told me that-," Luna starts.

"Oh that little shit," I say.

"That you wanted to talk to me about something. What was it?" Luna asks.

I look at Fred, he winks before going over to George, pointing Luna and I out to him.

"I just-," I say.

I take a deep breath, looking at Luna.

"Look, for a little while now, I've been really confused about my feelings for... you," I say.

Luna nods, still smiling.

"But... I mean... i find you really amazing and I think that I have liked you for a while now... I don't know when I started to like you but it's not dying down," I say.

Luna nods again, staring me in the eye.

"I would like to kiss you," I say, surprising even myself with the forwardness.

Luna smiles and gets closer, putting our lips together. From the corner of my eye, I can see Fred's smug smile as well as George's laugh.

There is a moment of silence in the room before Luna lets go.

"Want to dance?" She asks.

I look down at my feet before untying the socks, leaving me with bare feet.

"Gladly," I say.
