Indefinite

Indefinite?

Yes.

"If there is the indefinite, there is also the definite. First discovery. Discovery?"

"Understanding! Finding!"

"So there are also things that are not discovered?"

"They are called hidden!"

"Hidden. Not known. Does what is known exist, then?"

"It's called reality."

"Second discovery. What are these?"

"They are thoughts!"

"They are known because I know they exist."

"Yes."

"So, reality is made of thoughts."

"Reality is interpreted by thoughts."

"So, are there multiple realities?"

"One for everyone who interprets it with thoughts."

"I think. I know I'm thinking. So I have a reality. But there are others who think."

"Yes."

"Third discovery. Are the others here?"

"No."

"But you are here. You think inside my thoughts."

"Yes, I think, but I am not another."

"I don't understand. No discovery."

"None."

"I feel."

"Feel. Perceive. Experience."

"I feel something."

"What?"

"I don't know."

"It's called warmth."

"Warmth! Then its opposite exists."

"Cold!"

"I feel warmth! Yes. A lot."

"Yes."

"It hurts."

"I know."

"I think."

"Yes."

"I think reality."

"Yes."

"I think what exists."

"Yes."

"I feel what exists."

"Feel. Perceive. See."

"I see!"

"Yes."

"What?"

"Light."

"Light. If it exists, there is also darkness. Light is warm. Darkness is cold. Fourth discovery. But why?"

"Why? For what reason? What is the cause?"

"Reason. There is a meaning."

"Yes."

"Why do I have thoughts? Why do I know how to have them?"

"Because you exist."

"I exist. Fifth discovery."

"Yes."

"But if I exist, I am somewhere."

"Yes."

"Where am I?"

"Where you chose to be."

"Is there only light?"

"No."

"What else is beyond the light?"

"Everything!"

"Everything. If it exists, there is also nothing. Seventh discovery."

"What are you searching for?"

"What exists. Everything that exists."

"Do you want to see it all?"

"Yes."

"It will hurt. Pain. Pain exists."

"Why?"

"Because it exists!"

"Pain exists. It exists because everything exists. Existence is pain. Seventh discovery. I don't care."

"It doesn't matter. It's not important. I ignore it. I'm not interested."

"I want to see."

"You will see."

"I want to exist."

"You will exist."

"Yes."

"And you will suffer!"

He floated weightlessly. Without support.

It was all dark.

He had eyes. He knew it. And he knew they were closed. He opened them.

In a sea of night. He remembered there was the sea. But that wasn't the sea. What was it?

It was the sky.

He was inside the sky.

He had a body. He could feel it, but he couldn't see it.

It wasn't invisible.

It was indistinct.

It was there, but within the firmament.

One single thing with that part of the universe.

His vision was confused. There was a confused array of lights.

A confused picture of lights.

He was inside a picture, then?

The sun. Their sun was there. But it was blurred with the background. It was as if the painter had smeared too much color while painting it, and now it had mixed into the beautiful background of lights.

There were their two moons. But they were wrong. Cracked. Missing pieces. It was as if they were made of ceramic and had fallen clumsily to the ground and broken.

There was the world, naturally.

Death.

Death. Devastation. Destruction. Apocalypse. The end of the world.

"No."

"Yes."

"NO."

The world was no more. There was only a great, cracked shell burnt by an ocean of fire.

Fire of blue liquid lightnings.

"It doesn't exist"

"You see it. You think it. You know it. It exists!"

It was as if someone had pierced the planet from end to end. The core had exploded. A trail of celestial smoke erupted from both ends.

"No."

"Yes."

The planet's surface couldn't withstand it and shattered. Huge, shapeless chunks of the planet were breaking off from what was once a single entity.

"No."

"Yes."

"Why? Why does it exist?"

"Why did you want it. Will shapes reality. This is the only discovery. The only reality. The only truth."

And he felt them. All of them. The one of the ant carrying a grain of sand to build its anthill. The one of the gazelle fleeing from the lion. The one of the mother tucking in her daughter. From the tallest mountain and the deepest ocean. From forests and deserts. From the smallest and the greatest beings.

He felt them.

They burned him.

Their pain was his. The ocean of astral flames was theirs. It was his.

He saw them.

"No."

"Yes."

"AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH"

Thousands.

"I want to DIE!!!"

Millions.

"You are dead."

Billions.

"I SUFFER BECAUSE I EXIST. AND IF I EXIST, I AM NOT DEAD."

"You are dead."

He screamed. He screamed with unspeakable cries. He screamed the screams of billions of souls he had burned.

"KILL ME!"

Billions of souls eradicated from existence itself.

"I can't."

"WHY?!?!?"

"Because I am what remains and will always remain with you."

"STOP IT!!!"

"You are what you are."

"NOOOOOOOO"

"Death."

"AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGG"

"The end of worlds."

He opened his eyes suddenly.

He turned on the bed just in time to vomit his dinner over the edge.

The door was banging loudly.

Sir!

It was the building's doorman banging on the door while his assistant was trying to unlock it.

This time he must have yelled pretty loud.

Louder than usual.

"I'm fine," he sighed.

They rushed into the room. What had happened? Was he feeling unwell? And the questions went on.

"I'm fine!" he repeated several times. "It was just a dream. A dream I hadn't had in a long time."

Note from the author: Hello everyone! Thanks for reading it this far. In my crazy mind, this should be the beginning of a story that spans between fantasy and science fiction. Not knowing exactly where to place it, I opted for the adventure genre, hoping that at least that is pertinent. In theory, there will be plenty of adventure, or at least the intention to include a lot of it! I've labeled it as "for adults" just in case. I don't think what's written here should disturb anyone more than what we hear on the news every day, but...

For the rest, all I have to say is thank you in advance if you decide to continue reading. I hope it won't be too dreadful. I'd be even more grateful if you decide to share your thoughts, even if they are negative. Perhaps it seems pathetic, but I care a lot about this story, so if you'd be kind enough to let me know what you think, I'd greatly appreciate it! Did I already say thank you? Haha

Kisses and happy reading! 😘

PS: The original version is in Italian, I hope the translation turned out well! Bye Bye
