Her mother didn't teach her how to cook. She didn't even bring Sera into her kitchen to help whip up dinner. In fact, she didn't spend much time at all in there. Sera was treated to fancy dinner parties that were hosted by authors of the latest hits. Then one day when Sera was 13, her mother was shot to death by Royal Guards at a book convention for speaking against Illea's form of government. Sera tried jumping in front of her mother but she was pushed back by her. After that, she won't even look at another Palace guard.
