The ocean shoots its icy spray
Onto the sand upon the bay
A seagull shouts a deafening "Cree!"
Cawing at fishing boats on the sea.

Many, many long years ago
When the town was new, but the sea was old
A young man dreamed of setting sail
Persevering through wind and gale.

He built a ship to sail the sea
And there was never a finer ship then she
He dubbed his tub the Mary Ann
And set off with his crew at hand.

Well, for a while the sky was blue
The sun was high and the sails they flew
But their good fortune could not last
For soon a man shouted "Avast!
A storm's a'brewing! Batten the hatches!
Roll up the sail and secure all the latches!"

The men fought valiantly for their ship
But soon the Mary Ann was dipped
Into the waves on the icy main
Never to be seen again.

The crew escaped with nought but their lives
And were hauled once they arrived
Onto the wet and sandy shore
For the Mary Ann was no more.

Oh, the ocean still shoots its icy spray
Onto the sand upon the bay.
And seagull still shout their deafening "Crees!"
Cawing at fishing boats on the sea.

But there is one boat
That should be but is not
Sailing out on that endless sea
The Mary Ann, for it is she,
Is now at the depths of the deep blue sea.
