Brokenpaw yawned. He had been on the pre-dawn patrol and it was tiring and boring and sleepy! Luckily, the small black tomcat--Tinyclaw, his mentor-- gave him permission to sleep and take prey from the pile, but the apprentice was too tired to even meow, so he headed to the apprentices' den straight away. Petalpaw and Featherpaw are already gone. Hmm. The tom thought as he curled up in his nest, eager to meet his shadowy mentors and his friend.

"Hello? Anyone here?" Brokenpaw meowed, his voice echoing in the endless woods. "Yeah we're here!" Brokenpaw raced towards the sound and saw his mentors and his friend. "Shinepaw! You came!" Brokenpaw exclaimed. The pale yellow tabby meowed, narrowing her eyes in mock anger, "It's Shinebreeze now!" then, the playfulness returned to her eyes. "I finished a long vigil so I get to sleep." "Well, I finished the pre-dawn patrol so I also get to sleep." Brokenpaw laughed. "Enough chitchat." A low voice growled. "Of course Shadepelt. Is Snowstone not coming this time?" Shadepelt silenced him with a glare. He nodded and the training session began.

"We can't go on like this! He's getting deeper and deeper and he's too strong! With a leader like him in the future, StarClan and all the Clans will be destroyed! The great battle from so many generations ago might be reawakened!" The whole of StarClan was fretting and worrying and chaos was well within the Clan. Ivyflower's gaze was shadowed with pain, anger and uncertainty. "We must protect him and let him see how bad the dark forest is!" "Too late now..." A barely visible blue-grey she-cat whispered gravely. "His sisters are about to become warriors tomorrow! His hatred will grow stronger and stronger until he overshadows the clan...."

---

Brokenpaw woke up, tired but happy. But his joy didn't last long. His sisters came back, gloating, "Hey Uglykit! Need to stay in nursery again? We just passed our assessments and we're going to be warriors! Too bad you can't move in the warriors den with us!" With a snicker, they marched off, going to Reedsong and Aqualight. Brokenpaw rolled his eyes. He wasn't dazed by his annoying sisters anymore. Just then, Flamestar called a meeting.

"I have called this meeting to name two new warriors. Featherpaw, Petalpaw, step forward." The two excited she-cats stepped forward. "Hawkscar, is Featherpaw ready to be a warrior?" "Yes, she is one that the clan will be proud of." The big tom replied evenly, a warm glint of pride in his eyes as he watched his apprentice become a warrior. Flamestar meowed, "Good. Brindleclaw, is Petalpaw ready to be a warrior?" "She is." The she-cat meowed with pride edging in her voice. "Good. Petalpaw, Featherpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, defend and protect your Clan at all times, even with the cost of your life?"

"I do!"

"I do!"

"Then, in the name of StarClan, Featherpaw, you shall now be named as Featherleaf. StarClan honours your intelligence and bravery. Petalpaw, you shall now be recognised as Petalcloud. StarClan honours your courage and wits."

"Featherleaf! Petalcloud! Featherleaf! Petalcloud!" The Clan cheered.

"But, in tradition, you both have to sit vigil and watch over camp as your first task as a warrior. That is all for this Clan meeting, thank you." Flamestar leaped off Highbranch.

Reedsong and Aqualight touched noses with their kits. Brokenpaw was the only one who wasn't cheering for his siblings. He looked furious but wouldn't show a drop of happiness or jealousy or weakness. He was as strong as a wave, that could crush anyone who came in his way...
