Chapter 11 - Date Night

⚡️

"SO, TWENTY THOUSAND CALORIES A DAY?" I asked for the third time, laying on my bed and staring at the plain ceiling with Wally. When he first told me, it made sense considering how his body operated, but it was still shocking.

"Yeah, pretty much," Wally shrugged, giving the same answer he had the last two times. This time, however, he turned his head to face me, "What about you? What do you like to eat?"

"I don't really have a preference, as long as it's good. Food is food."

"What do you say we go out and get some good together then? There's this great Italian place in Central City," Wally turned to his side so he was facing me entirely.

"What, like a date?" I asked, turning to face him directly. The close proximity caused blushes to form on both of our faces, painfully visible in the bright lights of my room.

"I mean, it doesn't have to be if you don't want it to. It could just be two friends going out for food since you've never been out before," Wally chuckled nervously, shifting away.

"No! I mean, I'd love to go to the restaurant with you," I cleared my throat awkwardly, "On a date."

"Really?" Wally speeded off the bed and stood in front of me, an adorable grin on his freckled face, "That's great! I'll pick you up at seven, dress nice!"

In a blur of yellow, he left the room in a blur. I sat back down on my bed, letting out a breath. That really just happened, Wally West, the former flirt of the team, just asked me out. I fell back on my bed, running a hand through my hair and closing my eyes.

I thought back to what Richard said, that I shouldn't break Wally's heart. Honestly, I had no plans of doing so. Everything was falling into place, despite the struggle inside and outside of my mind.

My thoughts drifted to M'gann and Artemis, they were right. God, they were never going to let me live it down. I would have to make sure they didn't find out right away, relying on the hope M'gann didn't read my mind.

Checking the time on my League Phone, it was five-thirty. Perfect. I threw my phone on the bed and entered my bathroom, turning on the shower and stripping off my clothes so I could step in. While I was lathering my hair with shampoo, I hummed under my breath. My spirits were high.

When I got out of the shower I wrapped myself in a towel. Opening the door, M'gann was waiting right outside, falling forward like she was leaning against the door.

"Were you listening to me?"

"Well, Conner heard you humming with his super hearing, and you know, it would have been weird for him to listen so I did! You have a really pretty voice, even if you weren't singing singing."

"Thanks," I smiled sheepishly, walking to my closet. Sliding open the door, I pretended like I didn't know what to wear.

"You should sing more often, the team would like it," M'gann continued, stepping up behind me.

"I don't sing in front of people a lot," I shrugged, eyeing the new dress in the back of my closet, "It's really the one thing I don't want people to know about."

"Well, now Conner and I know about it!" She beamed, "I think the team would like your voice. If you want to, you know, casually start singing in one of the training rooms none of us would stop you."

"There are cameras in the training rooms," I deadpanned, frowning when she beamed at my realization.

"Exactly! You don't have to sing in front of the team directly, but they can still see how amazing you are! I know Wally would like your singing." I smirked, Wally had already heard my singing, that was a secret. Just like our upcoming date, "Anyway, I should leave you to it. I'm making spaghetti tonight if you're interested."

"No thanks, I had a late lunch," I lied smoothly, sensing no suspicion from her after I said it.

M'gann nodded, floating out of my room. I sighed in relief, finally grabbing the red dress and setting it on my bed. Walking to the bathroom to do my hair and makeup, I kept my makeup simple and (hairstyle) my hair.

I finally put on the dress again, spinning around in the full-length mirror hung on the wall. I pulled on a pair of shoes and grabbed my purse. My door slid open, and I peeked out to make sure no one was around.

Cautiously stepping out I checked my phone for the time, 7:00. Wind ruffled my clothes, a body just behind me. I turned to greet Wally, dressed in a red shirt and grey pants.

"You made it in time. From what I've heard, you have a lot of trouble managing that. Always being late even with super speed."

"I wouldn't be late for this," Wally reached out for my hand, "I've checked the zeta-tubes, it's clear. Dick is the only one who knows, and he's making sure no alarms go off when you leave."

"Let's go then, the faster the better."

Both of us stealthily ran to the zeta-tubes, stopping and looking around every few seconds to make sure no one was around. When we made it to the tubes, Wally typed in the location and they charged up.

"Ladies first," Wally bowed. I rolled my eyes, stepping through the tube.

I stepped out of an abandoned photo booth. Wally followed behind me. He once again grabbed my hand and led me out of the alley. We walked through the streets until we arrived at a quaint Italian restaurant. We were seated and ordered food within ten minutes.

"So this is your city," I turned to look out the window, admiring the view- small and tall buildings blended together by the lights in their windows, "I like it. Less scary than Gotham. I'm pretty sure at least, I've never been there."

Wally chuckled, taking a sip of his drink, "Well Central City doesn't have Batman to change the aesthetic. A lot of people think Gotham was pretty normal before he came in and made it gritty."

Laughing, I leaned back in my chair as our food arrived. Slowly, I took a bite, humming in satisfaction. It was delicious, the perfect amount of creamy and chewy.

"This is amazing. I see why you like this place now," I took another bite of my food. I had never gone to a restaurant like that. The villains only got takeout for obvious reasons. Tasting it first hand was nice.

"Flash recommended it to me a while ago. He found it first a few years back. Pasta is really filling, so I go before or after missions a lot to get energy. It isn't good for my wallet, but the food makes it worth it. And if I'm in my suit, they give me food for free."

"Look at you getting a hero discount," I shoved more of the food into my mouth, "This probably helps you reach your twenty thousand calories a day too."

"For sure, the one thing I don't like about this place," Wally leaned in, as if sharing a world-shattering secret, "Is that they don't have unlimited breadsticks like Olive Garden does. Not have a limit on the food I eat is really helpful."

"No one can top Olive Garden when it comes to pasta," I nodded in agreement, chuckling, "Franchise businesses are usually awful, but not Olive Garden."

Chatting and laughing throughout dinner, Wally insisted on paying the bill, not that I had much of an option because I never had a use or need for money before. Leaving our plates at the table, we left.

"Do you want to go for a walk? Or see a movie?" Wally asked, subtly hinting that he didn't want to bring me back to the cave yet. I didn't want to go back, so I was fine with it.

"A movie might be a bit overwhelming right now since this is my first time being in a big city, but I'd love to go for a walk somewhere with you."

"There a park a block from here, we can take a lap around there before walking back to the zeta," Wally offered me his hand. Smiling nervously, I entwined my fingers with his.

Central City was lively, the streets bustling despite the late hour. People were smiling, laughing, enjoying their normal lives. Squeezing Wally's hand a bit tighter, I glanced at Wally. To everyone else walking along those streets, we probably looked like a normal couple.

Little did any of them know that we were heroes, or a young hero and a sort of hero, anyway. They didn't know that villains raised me, or that Wally had to eat twenty-thousand calories a day. We were normal to them.

Leaning my head against Wally's shoulder, I breathed in everything that was him. Pure energy. If I cleared my mind and focused on that, then to me, we were normal too.

Arriving back at the cave, Wally and I snuck back to my room, expertly avoiding Connor and M'gann wherever they were. We hoped they were asleep, but because we didn't run into them, it didn't matter.

"That was amazing," I told him, standing in front of my door.

"Would you want to do it again?"

"I would be honored to go another date with you Wally," I giggled. Drunk on happiness I kissed his cheek, "Night."

Stepping into my room I waved one last time as the door closed. I took off my shoes and threw them somewhere in the room. In a daze, I removed my makeup, took off my dress, and pulled on my new Kid Flash pajamas.

"Have you ever been in love ALICE?" I asked the AI, getting into bed.

"There was once a computer program, but he turned out to be quite rude," was her robotic reply. I chuckled, readjusting my pillow.

"Well, he's missing out on a great AI. Don't tell anyone I left tonight."

"Thank you, Miss. (Y/n), sleep well."
